As Kaneki was heading back to bring the bottles of milk to rest of the boys who joined him in the Onsen, after arriving at the changing room he was faced by two girls around his age.
Seeing two complete strangers startled him and made him drop the glass bottles of milk.

He then turned his arm into an automatic rifle as he panicked and aimed it at the two unfamiliar girls.
???: Woah woah Kane-kun, no need to resort to that.
???: Besides that thing is completely useless against us.
Kaneki: Who are you? Why are you acting friendly towards me? I don't even know you.
???: Wait seriously?
???: he really doesn't know who we are? That's so rude of you Kane-kun. I'm so disappointed in you!
???: Disappointment!
Kaneki: What is even happening?
The two girls were both upset and Kaneki couldn't understand why.
Kaneki: seriously who are you two?
???: Sigh~ man and here I wanted to see you happy to see us.

Seeing that Kaneki couldn't recognize them, they gave up on trying to make him guess and told him their names directly and...
Monika: It's me Monika.

Kaneki couldn't believe the two girls who looks around the same age as him, were the same Sayori and Monika he had fought alongside with in the War of Hell.
Monika: You cooked tons of Yakisoba in the War of Hell.
Sayori: you'd share stories about you and your other friends when we are not in the front lines, and you even promised us that we'd become part of your family once the war is over.
Monika: and you'd give us new names for when we start our new life.
To reassure him, both of the girls said information that very few people know's about that happened during the war of hell, and hearing this.

Kaneki jumped towards them with his arms wide open and tears streaming down his cheeks as he was overjoyed to see his two long deceased friends in front of him. He intended to give them a hug, but.

He slammed his face on the wall followed by his butt hitting the floor very hard.
Monika: Hehe~ what did you think would happen?
Sayori: we're nothing more than ghost Kane-kun, what made you think you could touch us-

Monika & Sayori: Huh?
To their surprise, Kaneki once again tried to give him a hug in which he somehow successfully able to give to them.

Kaneki: It really is you two... Sob~
Overwhelmed by emotions, Kaneki began to cry tears of both sadness and joy.
Monika: Did you really missed us that much?
Kaneki: Of course, even though we only knew and fought together for nine days and eight nights i became really attached to you two... How couldn't I?
Sayori: Hehe~ you're such a big baby dude.
Monika: you're using your new powers to hug is right?
Kaneki: yup. Just a moment okay? I'm still taking this in.

After two minutes, Kaneki finally let go of the two and began a conversation with them.
Kaneki: Why do you two look like the same age as me?
He was very curious to why they look like the same age as him.
Kaneki: The other dead people I've seen looks like they never aged since they've died but you two looked like you both aged.
Sayori: we don't know it ourselves.
Monika: Yeah we don't really know how this happened, even though we had died we continued to age.
Sayori: Maybe it's because we've been haunting you since the day we had died.

To Kaneki's surprise the two of them never left his side since they had died and haunted him ever since.
Kaneki: Wait... So you two didn't...
Monika: Yup, we didn't leave your side even after we died.
Sayori: and we had been following you ever since, it was like we were bound to you or something.

Kaneki was filled with guilt and it showed in his face, the two imme saw this and started complaining.
Monika: hey don't make that guilty look, you didn't even do anything.
Sayori: Seriously this guy never changes.
Seeing his two dead friends complain he apologized and let out a small laugh.
Kaneki: ... Yeah you two are right. Sorry about that hehe~
Monika: That's better.
Sayori: By the way, Kaneki thanks for bringing my family to justice. I honestly didn't expect you to actually find them so quickly.
(Just a small recap in case anyone forgot, Sayori was sold to the Clad of Black Wings to be used as an experiment for the War of Hell when she was young after her family no longer had any use for her)
Kaneki: Well I did blame them for your death so...
Sayori: It was so funny seeing them panic when you hunted them haha! Serves them right!
Monika: and you took care of our ribbons really well, thank you for that.
Kaneki: Well... I didn't want to forget you two, and I don't really have any picture so I had have them so I wouldn't forget you guys.
Monika: We were blessed with a good friend huh?
Sayori: Yeah our lives may have been short but at least this guy made it a lot better.
Kaneki was very happy hearing those words.

Kaneki: You two... Do you still want to become part of my family?

Sayori & Monika: Of course!
Hearing their answer made Kaneki very happy.
Kaneki: Yay! Guess I have more people to bring back to life now! Woohoo! I'm more motivated to get more stronger and more powerful now!
Monika: in that case, why don't you give us our new names now?
Sayori: Yeah! Give them to us now!
Kaneki: Okay let me think.
Kaneki began to think about new names to give to them.
Kaneki: Alright, Sayori.
Sayori: Yes? Did you thought of a new name for me?
Kaneki: Yup, your new name shall now me Kumiko.
Kumiko: Kumiko... I like it! I'm Kumiko now!
Kaneki: and Monika, you'll be now known as Mika.
Mika: I love it, I'll treasure this name.
Kaneki: So Kumiko, Mika. I'll become more powerful, I swear!
Mika: you can do it Kane-kun.
Kumiko: you can have these as well.

As Kumiko extended her hand to him, a small ball of fire appeared.
Mika: Yeah these would probably help out even if it's just a little.

Mika then did the same, a small ball of fire appeared in her hand.

Kumiko: it's our abilities, these small things are pieces of our souls. We think if you consume them you'd gain our abilities as well.
Mika: we don't know if it would actually work but it's better than doing nothing.

Kaneki was a bit hesitant but because they fe offering a small part of themselves to him.
He accepted them.
Kaneki: Sure then.
Kumiko and Mika: good.

The two flames gently flew towards Kaneki and went inside his chest.
Kaneki: I don't feel anything different.
Mika: try using our abilities later.

Their bodies then started to fade.
Kumiko: oh we're starting to fade.

Though he was disappointed, he understands that he couldn't talk to them forever since they were still both dead.

Kumiko: See you next time Kane-kun, we'll wait no matter how long it would take.
Mika: even if you've grown really old.
Kaneki: okay at that point you'd be better off waiting for me to die instead.
Kumiko & Mika: Hahaha~ yeah you're right.

Mika: Bye bye. We'll always be by your side.
Mika said her goodbye's while Kumiko.
Kumiko: once you bring us back to life you better cook us a nice meal with Yakisoba okay?

And so the two completely faded away.
Kaneki: Alright! I'm more motivated!

He jumped more motivated but he had forgotten something.
Itsuki: Kaneki what are you doing?

???: Dude you were talking to the wall and hugged air, are you going crazy or something?
The changing room he was talking to Kumiko and Mika door was open and the other guys saw everything inside besides Kumiko and Mika.
And more importantly.
???: You dropped our milk bottles too!
Kaneki: Oh shoot! I messed up! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!

Kaneki: I'll clean this mess up and get replenishments!
Kaneki then used his powers to clean up the mess he made and bought new bottles of milk for the guys and himself.
Gulp~
Kaneki: Haa~ man milk and onsen is the best combo.
Yuta: so uh... Care to explain what the heck you were doing in the changing room?
Swartz: Yeah it was like you were talking to some ghost or something.
Kaneki: Funny enough that was in fact the case.

Kaneki: I'm not joking, I was actually talking to the ghost of my two friends who fought alongside with in the War of Hell. You guys want me to-
Itsuki: Um... No thanks please, maybe next time.
All of the guys seem a bit terrified so Kaneki didn't pushed it any further.
But after his interaction with his two dead friends he was quite happy.
Kaneki: ...
He looked at his hands and thought to himself.
