Chapter 1022 - The Quagmire Known As Wano Country

When it comes to the most reliable door, it definitely has to be the Rotom electronic door.

However, ever since the password lock worked wonders previously, Queen began researching all sorts of bizarre door locks.

For example, there was once an electric shock fingerprint lock, if the fingerprint was correct, it would electrocute you. The correct way to unlock it was to lift it open and use a key instead.

Another example was a safe that would explode if the correct password was entered. It has a special keyhole where you have to reverse the key and use the cross-shaped end on the back to insert it.

This big door was also part of that product series. It didn't even have a lock; its only feature was its sheer weight.

The only way to open this door was brute force. The palm print on the outside was just a decoy, and hidden inside the seemingly sleek palm mark were concealed poison needles, coated with a paralyzing toxin that Queen had extracted from an Alolan Muk.

If someone with fidgety fingers tried it, they'd learn firsthand what it means to be completely immobilized.

"I really don't get what's going on in your head, what kind of normal person would make a door like this?"

Queen's staff members were already used to it, but Zeraora still couldn't understand why Queen always came up with such bizarre setups.

"I've been forced into a corner. I've finally figured it out, the guys from the CP agency all have something wrong with their heads. Since they like to overthink things, let's make them overthink even more. The more they think, the more mistakes they'll make."

Queen's tone was filled with resentment. Sure, his bounty was because of him taking blame, but the Cipher Pol agencies' tendency to over-imagine things was also a major factor.

Queen believed that if those guys hadn't been so wildly speculative, he wouldn't have ended up in his current situation. So, to counter their overthinking, he adopted these unconventional tactics.

He even built a fake door that looked like a door but was actually just a wall.

They were made from new types of materials created using Diancie's ability, and their density is extremely high. Without some freakish strength, breaking through them isn't easy.

Even Queen himself used Winch Green's power whenever he had to open these doors.

But if it were Yamato doing it, opening such a door would be a breeze. She might not be able to handle a lock, but she could easily smash through a door.

The CP agents, however, overestimated Queen's intellect. They thought this place was like Vegapunk's lab, full of password locks and fingerprint locks, and ended up putting all their energy into wrong area.

That CP0 agent circled around for quite a while, but in the end, still couldn't find the proper entrance to the lab. Instead, he triggered one of the traps Queen had left behind and was ultimately caught in a web of firepower. Under the combined assault of laser cannons and other weapons, he was riddled with holes.

"Serves him right. What about the others? CP0 always operates in squads. Don't tell me this one came alone?"

Queen had long been desensitized to death and didn't see anything particularly cruel about the situation. In fact, it felt very satisfying. Moreover, this experiment helped him realize that his firepower still wasn't strong enough, and he should probably increase the caliber of some weapons.

More than that, he was curious about what had happened to the other CP0 agents.

There didn't seem to be any visible signs of destruction within Wano Country, and since Setsuna and Zeraora had remained on guard here the entire time, Queen never really thought anything would go wrong.

Even without counting Zunesha, the Minks' combat squads weren't something easy to deal with.

"They were taken care of by others. The recordings are all right here. If you're interested, you can watch them yourself."

Picking up the cloak from the nearby coat rack, Zeraora left the lab as well, leaving Queen alone to go through the footage.

For the sake of his own safety, Queen had installed hidden cameras with zero blind spots in every place surveillance could be set up. Those CP0 agents might have thought they were being stealthy, but in reality, they had been fully exposed from the start.

Just as Queen had guessed, the CP0 agents were indeed operating in squads, but the fate of the others wasn't any better.

One of them ran into the duo of Perona and Bewear. The gothic girl and the plush bear didn't make him nervous at first, until he learned just how terrifying this pair could be.

Hollow made him drop to his knees instantly, filling him with the overwhelming feeling that he was nothing more than a mere insect.

Although he wasn't restrained by the power of this emotion, the few seconds of stiffness were enough for him to understand why Bewear was considered such a dangerous Pokémon.

The doll-like fists packed explosive power that completely belied its appearance. Overcome by negativity, he instinctively gave up on defending himself and took blow after blow from Bewear in an undefended state.

He barely managed to hold out before another Hollow pierced through his chest, recreating the earlier scene. The CP0 agent was gradually defeated and ultimately dragged into Udon's prison by Bewear.

At the monastery in Hakumai, another CP0 agent encountered the duo of Pedro and Lami. His end was similar to the one in Kuri, though the method was different.

Lami's deadly poison, combined with Pedro in his Sulong form, left him with no ability to fight back. And the effects of the poison were far deadlier than Hollow. Pedro's attacks were also far more ruthless. The agent didn't even get the chance to be thrown into prison; he died on the spot from a mix of poison and sword slashes.

After his eyes were healed, Pedro had completed his "conversion," and once in combat, he showed absolutely no hesitation.

This CP0 squad consisted of four members. Now, two were dead, one was severely injured, and the last remaining one had slipped into the Flower Capital, but his experience was the most unique.

Greninja had been tailing this CP0 agent the entire time, but deliberately allowed him to enter the Flower Capital in order to test the current attitude of Wano Country's citizens.

Clothes could be stolen, accents could be mimicked, and hairstyles could be altered, so at first, this CP0 agent wasn't exposed. It wasn't until he began probing for certain information that the people of Wano noticed something was off.

They soon realized that this person didn't even know what an identity card was, confirming that he was an outsider.

At this point, the long-standing influence of the Beasts Pirates came into play.

The Beasts Pirates had a very simple propaganda message: [We're here to change your lives. We can bring you a better future. If outsiders show up, it's because they want to drag you back into poverty.]

Wano Country was unique, they held a particular reverence for the Shogun. Due to Kozuki Hiyori's presence, the Beasts Pirates no longer faced questions of legitimacy, and so everything came back to the core issue.

Ordinary citizens rarely care about who rules them; they only care about whether they can live a happy life. And anyone who dares to destroy this happy life, they'll fight back against them with everything they've got.

These people weren't strong, but they were numerous, and they trapped that CP0 agent into the quagmire known as Wano Country.

At their cries, a large number of patrolling samurai gathered, forcing the CP0 agent to flee in panic.

He didn't kill anyone, not because he was softhearted, but because he simply couldn't kill every witness in the Flower Capital. Doing so would only slow down his escape.

In the end, Greninja still didn't intervene, because that CP0 agent was blocked by Hyogoro.

"The life that Wano Country has fought so hard to earn, I won't let people like you destroy it. One Sword Style of the Flower: Flaming Hair of Holy Rage!"
