Chapter 32 - Request

Now that he had what he needed to be able to travel without losing his way, he needed food and water for the journey. According to the little man, it was a 5 day journey, so if he didn't have food and water he would die of hunger and thirst.

'Now that I think about it, where could that lazy duck be?' Shun thought, remembering that Po had left offended towards the forest because he accidentally vomited on him.

Finding a store that sold food was much easier. In the village, several shops sold particular products. Such as tomatoes, and lettuce among other vegetables and fruits.

After all, this was a town that was more about agriculture, even so, there was one store that had more variety and canned food. Shun went into this store and bought food and water to last him about 15 days, he came out with a large bag floating behind him.

The owners of the store were an old man and an old woman who upon seeing Shun's face began to serve him happily and just like in the mapping store he didn't even have to pay 1 belly for all the products he bought.

'Being a hero has its benefits' thought Shun as he left the store with a strange expression on his face.

When he took on Gally and his crew he never intended to be treated as a hero and receive for free all the things he needed for his journey. Besides the fact that by killing Gally and Oyag he already got a large amount of money, much more than any villager in this village. But even though he wanted to refuse and pay for the things, the elders were very stubborn and would not let him leave until he accepted the gift.

'That's all there is to it' thought Shun as he set out on his return to his new ship.

Yesterday when he carried Gally's half-cut body, he moved Oyag's boat with the help of Ralph and the others to the main harbor of the island, which was not very large.

There was also Gally's boat which was a little larger than Oyag's. He explored it and could see very few differences. Both ships had a galley and dining room that were in the same space. The typical Captain's quarters which in the case of Gally's ship was more spacious. A common bathroom. And Oyag's ship had only one room where there were several bunks.

As for Gally's boat, it had two rooms and could sleep many more people. So he chose this boat, not because he planned to use it but to sell it in the future at a higher price.

As for Oyag's boat, he would leave it here, it would be of some use to the villagers either if they decide to use it or to get money out of it.

'Wait' thought Shun as he paused, 'I can't go to a marine base with a giant pirate skull...'

Gally's ship had a huge white skull with a crescent moon next to it on the cloth that was used to make the ship move forward thanks to the wind. If it headed for the marine base all it would get is attacked.

It wasn't the classic pirate flag that you took down and solved the problem. He had to change what would become the sail completely since it was the symbol of Gally's pirates.

As he was about to head off to find a shop with a white candle, he heard behind him a series of footsteps.

"Shun-san wait!" shouted a 12 year old boy, it was Toma who had his typical outfit, the wooden sword he used yesterday to beat the pirate and save Silk, and a large black bag with items.

Shun turned and noting Toma asked, "It's you, what happened?"

"Whew...whew...wait, let me catch my breath" Toma said half kneeling as he was breathing heavily. He had been running non-stop all over the village looking for Shun. First, he went to Silk's bar, but she told him he had already left, so he searched aimlessly.

After a few seconds, he caught his breath and exclaimed excitedly, "Please let me follow you!"

As he uttered these words, he slightly bowed his head and closed his eyes.

Shun put on an incredulous look, he never thought that this boy, although only 2 years younger than him, would want to go on adventures with all the danger that comes with it. Although he remembered the blow he gave the pirate and it wasn't bad at all. If it had been a real sword, he would have killed him and the pirate wouldn't have had a chance to counter.

"Why do you want to follow me?" asked Shun curiously.

Toma looked up and answered honestly, "I want to see the world and improve my sword skills."

For Toma, life in the village was boring. At first training in the dojo filled him, but after being the best disciple and not having many rivals it became boring. So he longed for adventure and to improve his swordsmanship.

Besides he realized that in a life and death fight, he lacked courage, it was not the same as fighting in the dojo with wooden swords.

"That's good, but you can do it on your own, bye" Shun said as he started walking again.

Although he liked Toma very much, he didn't feel like involving anyone else in his path of revenge, he had enough to do with Po.

"Wait!" said Toma stopping him, "How do you plan to handle Gally's ship by yourself? It's not like a small boat" he added.

"Well... I'll manage" Shun replied, the little man in the map store had made it very clear to him that sailing wasn't easy, but he was confident in his ability to control the air currents and thus steer the ship or something.

"I know how to cook too, I had to cook for Isao for many years. You, on the other hand, have been eating grilled meat for two years" Toma argued again.

At this Shun frowned. Yesterday when he was drunk he talked too much and complained about always having to eat the same thing. So Toma was right, his cooking skills sucked.

After a few seconds of contemplation, where Toma was looking intently at Shun while clasping his hands, Shun replied, "Okay, but if you die don't blame me."

"Yes, yes! Thank you!" said Toma happily as he jumped up and down.

Shun waited until Toma's happiness would pass. Then they started walking through the village.

"Do we need anything else? Or can we set sail now?" asked Toma with more enthusiasm to set sail than Shun.

"Yes. We need to change the sail on the pirate ship, as our first destination is a marine base" replied Shun.

"A marine base!? I always wanted to see one, the marines are the ones who face pirates, they must be strong" Toma said enthusiastically, Shun just nodded without listening to him too much.

"Do you know where we can get a normal sail?" asked Shun.

"Mm, there is no villager who makes sails, but old man Krikens must have a normal sail stored among so much junk" said Toma as he led Shun to old man Krikens' residence.

On the way, he told him that old Krikens was an old merchant who sailed all over East Blue in the past, whenever he sees him he wants to tell him one of those old stories. In his travels, he collected many useless things, which he kept in his house.

Old Kriken house was further away from the village, they had to walk for about 15 minutes when finally Shun noticed it.

It was a very humble and normal hut, the weirdest thing was that around it there were old objects, proving that it was true what Toma told Shun.

Toma knocked on the door a couple of times and waited with Shun for them to be served. In a few seconds, the door opened abruptly. Shun could see on the other side a very disheveled old man.

His hair covered his entire face and his small eyes were barely visible. His beard was also long and unkempt. His clothes were in very bad shape and gave off a horrible smell.

Shun thought that, if someone saw him on a street, they might mistake him for a random vagrant.

"What do you brats want?" asked the old Kriken with little humor.

"Old- I mean Mr. Krikens, this is Shun. The one who saved our village from Gally and his crew" said Toma as he introduced Shun who nodded his head slightly.

"So you're the brat who saved our village huh? In my better days it wouldn't have been hard for me to scare off Gally and his pirates" said Krikens as he looked at Shun intently.

Although his comment was not very friendly, his tone changed to a more pleasant one.

"I don't think they will come to visit me, what do they need?" he asked.

"We need a sail for a medium sized boat" replied Shun wanting to get away from this place as fast as possible.

"Do you have one?" asked Toma nervously, since if they didn't get one they would have to sail a pirate ship.

"Oh, a sail. I remember in my day having to change the sail on my ship many times. Traveling back then was much more dangerous than now, good times" said Krikens remembering the past.

"They came to the right place, come in" said Krikens after coming back to reality.

Shun and Toma looked at each other, with no other choice they went inside the old Kriken house to get a sail.

Shun left all the food and other things leaning on the floor away from Kriken's house, he was afraid that the stinky smell would transfer to his things.
