I hummed as I stared at all the books in my husband's study. This was but a small handful of the books that he had owned. The rest were stored up in our library. I hadn't had the time to go through most of his stuff since he left this world. Being busy with ruling Kuroichi, fighting against our neighboring Grand Dukedoms, and raising our son.
The door opened and Raiki poked his head in. He smiled sheepishly. "Hey, Mama! What are you doing here? Thought you hated stuff that reminded you of my old man."
I sighed. Had I really given that impression?
"It's not that I hate it, Raiki. It's just… complicated. Your father's study holds so many memories, and sometimes I feel overwhelmed by them." I turned to face him fully, forcing a smile to lighten the moment. "But these books also hold knowledge that might be important for the future of Kuroriku."
Raiki stepped inside, the sunlight from the window lighting up his curious eyes. He got his father's curiosity.
