[December of the year before Saffron saved Rose from the roaring River]
I stared at the list of gifts that my siblings had sent me. Well, sent to the Gift Giver. The Gift Giver was a man in red robes who was said to give kids gifts every winter.
Sil asked for two things. One pretty simple, and the other impossible. He wanted a toy vroom-vroom, aka a toy car. And the other thing was... to see our pa. But I couldn't bring back the dead...
"Maybe if I buy a really nice toy car, it'll distract him from the other wish," I murmured to myself, trying to shake off the sadness.
I'd seen some cool looking remote control cars in the market. Although, they were pretty expensive... most of my wages from my job as a Marine Captain were currently going into paying my siblings education and debts. But I needed to grant at least this one.
I glanced at Alli's list. She wanted to wear a princess dress and ride the Wish Giver's legendary sleigh.
