Chapter 9 - THE WEST.

" Down."

That was the word I heard before collapsing to the ground.....

I opened my eyes to see two people standing meters from my head.

.....grunting....

I tried getting up.

The truth was I was exhausted much more than I have ever been, I've never ran this much distance in my life.

" Are you okay kiddo " one of them asked me, bringing my thoughts back to reality.

" Is this heaven?" I asked.

" To be honest with you I wish it was " the second replied.

* I was helped up, where I saw the biggest viggon monster for the first time in my life, I kept looking closely at it, bringing me to remembering my dream, where my mom shouted at me she looked exactly like one of this monsters.

" Nice job people "

I turned to see the lieutenant behind me.

" I thought you said you were the one leading the Eastern troops?" I asked him, with my voice weak as well as my body.

" I don't have to explain anything to you, you are just a naive soldier, not even a soldier a boy still trying to survive this dream we call life "

" Am naive, am a kid but am bold enough to embark on a journey like this so that makes me a soldier " I fired back.

" You've got balls kid " one of the watchdogs sitting on a tree said with his face covered in a mask.

" You indeed want to know the truth, okay I'll give you a fraction of what's going on " the lieutenant said walking closer to me.

I looked around for the first time since my revival back to reality. I noticed that there were no war soldiers not a single war soldier where we camped so I asked.

" Where are the war soldiers?"

" They are long dead kiddo, they all crashed whilst coming here, we almost lost our resources quite fortunate....you were found before the wretched monster found you or you getting hypnotized by the beast " one of the men beside me said

" What?" I asked.

" We've been fighting these monsters for years and now we have a chance, you guys were just the bait " the lieutenant said, as he stood inches from me.

I was totally lost in thought, we were baits?.

" Does the upper ranks know about this?" I asked shaking.

" There's a lot you don't know about, you have no clue how this beings came to existence or the pain our first generation faced battling these animosity. Like I said you are naive and too daft to be here " the lieutenant said.

" Are the other troops facing the same damnation as we?" I asked him.

" We have no idea " the one sitting on a tree replied me.

" What now?" I ask.

" We begin the work " the lieutenant said.

" When do we move out Harvey?" One of his colleagues asked the lieutenant.

" We move at dawn " he answered.

They all started moving around and gathering weapons and gearing up for the battle ahead of them, the matter was I've removed myself from the situation, even if it's to walk and try finding my way back to the south.

" One last question "..... I said making everyone looking at me dumbly.

...I continued.....

" Why are the monsters not swarming us in this camp?"

" There are sacred grounds this monsters don't dare go close to, if you want to wander alone you've to know the steps to take and where to camp. At dawn we are going to free the west from these plagues." one of the watchdogs said referring to the monster on the ground.

" I wish you a safe return " I said.

The truth told according to the watchdogs, got me hooked up on the edge of confusion. If indeed what they said are true my whole life believing in the warmen was a lie.

Time was slow, but eventually it came dawn, the watchdogs got prepared and we're ready for departure.

" Laura and Charles. I know you both are bewildered and perhaps not as moltivated as we are. Why not stay with the war soldier and at least keep the camp safe, if hungry you know what to do " lieutenant Harvey said to two of his youngest privates as they both gave a nod and watched them ride into the mist.

With the lieutenant and his colleagues gone, the three of us stayed back at the camp without saying a word, to be honest it was absolutely exhausting. The fact that none of us wanted starting a conversation with one another was annoying and much more time wasting.

" Where exactly are they going?" I asked breaking the awkwardness in the moment.

" The caiphas valley, that's where the herd are " Charles answered me. At last he spoke out.

" Shhhh, don't tell the war soldier things, he may voice them out later " the girl said.

" Well even if I want to voice out what he just said to trusted commanders, here we are, stuck in the west while the commander is seated in his office in the south drinking coffee " I said somewhat angry.

Charles sighed before speaking out.

" We all have our grieves, and those grieves makes us take harsh decisions and subdue those below us ".

" So what does that mean?" Laura asked.

" Look at the lieutenant Laura, he allows the past to push him against his will, and we're the ones suffering for it " he said with a deep tone.

" I joined the warmen because I thought I could change things and avenge my parents. So I won't blame your lieutenant if he is making this decisions you said subdues you, beside you are still teens why not quit the watchdogs and join something more dream like to you " I said to Charles.

He was about replying when the trees behind us started shaking.

" It's expiring." Laura said.

" What do we do?" Charles asked.

" What? What's expiring? I shouted feeling uneasy.

Laura ran to the communication bag and called their fellow watchdogs which isn't going through.

" The signal is bad " she screamed.

" Then gather up what we do need and let's move out and find another camp " Charles said arranging his gears, as she joined him.

Me on the other hand have nothing to carry or change into so just followed them as we ran into the woods.

My dream came flashing back in my head, the place started looking familiar causing me to stop for a bit. I turned looked back and i saw something unexplainable, the monsters crowded around a certain being that looks exactly like a human.

" Guys " I called out.

" What the hell are you doing let's go before they find us " Laura said.

" There's a human with them " i said ignoring her words.

" That's not a human being dude, that's one off their commander, the one who hypnotizes people, if he sees us I don't think we'll have a second to run or tell the story to the watchdogs" Charles said.

That was when I saw his eyes, it was glowing green. I no longer needed any invitation, as I followed Charles and Laura deeper into the west.
