Chapter 44 - Final Discussion

Sitting around reading manga after the war discussions, Rimuru decides to ask, "So, what's Walpurgis?"

Ramiris is about to say it when I begin explaining, "It started as a sort of gathering between Milim, Ramiris and Guy but over time it became a sort of venue where disputes were settled in a majority vote. About a thousand years ago the term Walpurgis was spread among humans so it began being called that. It began being seen as a bad omen by humans as well, tying it to a Great War, saying it's a sign that one is about to begin." Ramiris looks at me with a mixture of confusion and anger.

Rimuru continues, "So why is it said that Walpurgis comes shortly before a Great War?"

"Well, you see..."

Ramiris, incredibly frustrated, yells, "Augh, I'm tired of this, I was the one that was supposed to tell..." she takes a bite out of a cookie, "you jish." She chews on the cookie and eventually swallows, "How do you even know this?"

"You think I'll tell you?" She pouts. "Alright, fine, in all honesty it's a skill. I can't tell you exactly how but, I'll guess that my mental age is likely around a few millennia now after the research I've done."

She looks confused, "That doesn't make any sense! Now I'm just more curious!"

I shrug, "Sorry, that's as far as I'll go."

"Grrr!" She flies over to me, "Tell me! Tell me! Tell..." She's cut short as I flick her away.

"Sorry, it's a bit too much to comprehend." What basically happened is thanks to [Tempest Link] I am able to access the memories of anyone I have a connection with including some really old people like Veldora, Milim and Diablo. I can use it to essentially learn their entire life stories instantly as if I was them. This would also allow me to feel all their emotions and knowledge as if they were my own memories. However, thanks to some, less than ideal possible consequences of this like fear of Velzard and Velgrynd from Veldora and extreme anger added to my own, which is already really unstable, from Milim, it's not exactly ideal doing this. I turn to Rimuru, "So, what do you think, are you curious?"

He shrugs, "You always come up with an excuse for this stuff so I guess I've just given up."

"Ha, that's interesting. Trust me, it's for your own good, if I told you everything you would just get really paranoid of everyone and everything."

He lifts his eyebrow, "Well now I'm more curious."

"Ignore that for now. Let's just keep going, back to what we were talking about. You were wondering about the Great War and why the Walpurgis has been tied to it, right?" He nods. "Well, it's kind of a coincidence, it's because a Walpurgis once happened right before one and because of that the human nations ended up connecting the two as a result even though they happened separately."

He understands but asks, "So what was this Great War?"

"Ask [Raphael], it should know." I lie, "[Solomon] is the one that gave me these details. I always use it to fill in gaps in my research."

I look over to Ramiris. She wakes up, rubbing her head, "Uh, where am I?"

Rimuru's concentration breaks after his conversation with [Raphael]. "Wait! If one thousand years ago a Great War that happens every 500 years happened, doesn't that mean..."

Ramiris jolts up, "Forget about that for now! What's important now is the Walpurgis." She refers to a suggestion we gave earlier. "You two are planning to join, right?"

I comment, "Yeah, pretty much. It's the easiest way to tort... I mean talk to Clayman." Ramiris look at me after I say that. They definitely know what I was actually going to say.

Ramiris gets over what I said and declares, "If you two are going then I guess I should inform Guy."

"The quote on quote first seat of the Ten Great Demon Lords, correct? Go ahead." My face gets really serious, "Before you go, if you tell him about how much I know, you will never read another manga again."

I can tell Ramiris' heart stops, "Gah...Yes sir!"

As she leaves to talk to Guy, I hear Shuna, who stayed around along with a few other high ranking members of the Twin Capitals, say, "Wouldn't going to a place full of Demon Lords be too risky even for you two?"

I casually say, "Nah, unprovoked they aren't hostile. They aren't even very evil like the name Demon Lord suggests. As long as we don't do something too reckless it shouldn't be that bad."

I hear Geld say, "While I am a little worried as well I believe Lord Rimuru and Migeru can handle this and if Clayman attends the Walpurgis then that leaves his territory open. It's as we've discussed. It's the perfect chance to attack."

Rimuru turns to me, "What do you have on the Demon Lords?"

I jokingly say, "It's like you're starting to see me as a never ending source of information. It's kinda funny. I'm not Omniscient you know."

He deadpans, "So, do you know this?"

"Of course I do," I lie again, "It's one of the first things I researched once I found out about them. They are a major threat. We need to know this stuff before we dive headfirst into a fight with them."

"See, it's warranted. What do you know?"

"I think for now, just knowing who they are and what we should do around them is more important. Let's run through them. First, the ones we know, that would be Milim, Carrion, Ramiris, Clayman and Leon. They will all be there." I see Rimuru's fist clenched when I say Leon's name. "Out of those 4, Carrion has gone missing, Ramiris and Leon shouldn't pose a significant enough threat to prepare for them, assuming we don't provoke them and Clayman is a threat we have to prepare for, but of course we already knew that so we can move past them for now. That's five. Then there's Frey, Dino, Dagruel and Roy Valentin," I don't mention Luminous, "Because they aren't connected to this, we shouldn't be under threat from them for now. With them we have 9."

Veldora suddenly buts in. He was reading manga with Rimuru and I. "Valentin sounds familiar."

"That would be because you fought his predecessor."

He thinks about it, "Oh, now I remember. She really couldn't take a joke. She hated me for some reason."

"What was the joke?"

"I burned down her city."

Rimuru hears this, "You burned down her city!?"

"Yes."

"That's not a joke!"

I add, "That would make anyone furious at you, you know."

Veldora thinks about what I said, "Now that I think about it, I think I see that now."

"Well, you better apologize next time you see her if she's still alive." I know his stupid excuse for an apology won't work but at least I can try to get him to think about it more. "Well, getting back on track, with those 9 done with that leaves Guy Crimson. He's the oldest and most powerful Demon Lord, even being able to give Milim a really good fight when she rampages." I get really serious, "In this room only me when at my best could beat him in a fight consistently, Veldora's raw power isn't enough to defeat him. Don't make him angry at all costs Rimuru."

The sudden change in mood catches Rimuru off guard, "I-I understand...Wait, you could beat him!?"

"Yes, I could, just not in my current state. I can't tell you how I can beat him because it's my ultimate last resort but let's just say it's a secret I can't even trust you to keep."

He sweats, "Uh, okay."

I go back to my casual tone, "So that's all of them. That should be all you need to know for now."

Rimuru calms down after a few seconds and droops down relaxing, "Okay that'll be enough discussion for now."

Ramiris bursts through the door, "It's settled, you two can come. You're also allowed to bring two subordinates, I thought you should know that."

Alright cool, "I'll take Ranryo and Cerulean." I would take Souei as well but he's going to take part in the war and I can only take two.

Cerulean, who has been in the corner of the room for a while, declares, "I won't let you down."

Ranryo jumps out of my shadow and excitedly wags his tail, "Understood, Master!"

Rimuru thinks for a while and decides on Ranga and Shion, same as in canon. Veldora looks devastated after that. "Why didn't you pick me, Demon Lords are bugs to me!?"

I turn to him, "Your strength will actually be more of a hindrance than a boost and you aren't exactly the most qualified to attend a gathering. If need be Rimuru and I can summon you in emergencies anyways."

He gets excited again, "I see! So I'll be the savior!"

If everything goes according to plan Veldora won't be needed but, "I wouldn't get my hopes up but sure."

With that over, all that was left was waiting and preparation. In this time I make my Demon Lord outfit. It's heavily inspired by Rimuru's but with a more comfortable design. After the base is complete I use [Hermetic Reality] to edit the materials to be much more durable and resistant than normal clothing materials and then magically enchant them to upgrade them even more. After I'm finished I comment to myself that the material alone is probably worth hundreds of gold coins.

{Notice- After analysis it is likely that even for a small amount of the material, the price would range in the thousands of gold coins depending on the country.}

That's interesting, that's millions of dollars or hundreds of millions of yen. Maybe I could make some for Gazel, given this material's properties it could be layered underneath armor pretty easily.

After my little internal monologue I decide to ignore it for now and just start reading some more manga with Veldora and Rimuru who got his original Demon Lord outfit with some added bonuses from me. As we sit around I notice that Ramiris gets Rimuru and leaves with him. When he comes back I see Treyni walk alongside Ramiris. I guess it still happened, just later than the original. I welcome her, "Hey Treyni, it seems you've reunited with your queen. Congratulations."

She smiles and bows, "Thank you. Without your help I might not have been able to talk to Lady Ramiris again."

"Don't worry about it. It seems you've become a Doll Dryad, was that Rimuru's work?"

"Why yes and I deeply appreciate it."

"Good for you."

After a while the time finally comes. We watch as a set of gates appears in the living room and opens revealing Misery and Rain. They announce, "The preparation for the Walurgis gathering is in motion. We welcome Lady Rimiris as well as the two new Demon Lords to the gathering."

"Looks like it's time." Ranryo and Cerulean stand behind me as Rimuru gets ready. "You ready Rimuru?" He confidently nods at me. "Well, here goes nothing." We walk through the gates and are engulfed in a bright light before finally making it in. We look around.

The meeting room is exactly the same as in the anime. A grand central meeting table in a large room with large supporting pillars. There are 11 seats, one for each of the attendants with a large star-like ceiling. As our eyes focus more on the actual meeting table we finally see him.

A tall, muscular-looking man with pointy red hair. He sits in front of us emanating an intimidating aura. There is no expression on his face as he stares at us. Not bad, Guy, you've left quite the first impression. Of course, it's not going to work on me. Looks like it's time.. The Walpurgis is about to begin.
