Night settled over the desert, and the temporary base lit up like a fortress, its floodlights cutting through the dark.
Thor slipped inside with surprising ease for someone so large. He dodged guards, pushed through soldiers, and fought his way deeper, driven by one thought—Mjolnir was calling him. Outside the perimeter, Jane, Darcy, and Erik sat in the van, waiting nervously.
The storm above built with every step Thor took, as if the skies themselves recognized him. Finally, he reached the center of the compound, where Mjolnir stood half-buried in the dirt, glowing under the harsh lights.
Thor dropped to his knees before it, breath heavy, eyes burning with hope. He gripped the handle and pulled with all his strength. Nothing. He tried again, harder, every muscle straining, veins bulging—but the hammer didn't move. Not an inch.
He shouted in desperation, thunder echoing faintly above, but Mjolnir remained unmoved. At last, he slumped forward, forehead resting against the handle. His voice broke in a whisper. "Father…"
Up on the observation deck, Phil Coulson watched quietly, arms crossed, studying every move. Beside him stood Alex, his eyes sharp, faint traces of energy glimmering as he looked at Thor.
Phil finally asked, "Well? What do you think?"
Alex kept watching Thor, his tone calm but certain. "That's him. He really is Thor. I can see the strength inside him—but it's locked away. There's a seal binding his power."
Phil raised a brow. "So you're saying Asgard, Thor, all of it—it's real?"
Alex gave a small shrug. "We've got living proof right there in front of us. Hard to call it anything else."
Phil let out a slow breath, looking back at Thor kneeling in the crater. "So he's not just some crazy man with a hammer. He's a god who's been stripped down to mortal size."
Alex folded his arms, his gaze still locked on Thor's faint aura. "Exactly. Until that seal breaks, he's just going to keep failing."
Phil glanced at him. "Think he'll get his power back?"
Alex was quiet for a moment before answering. "That depends. He has to understand why the seal was placed on him. Until he learns that lesson… the hammer won't answer him."
Phil's eyes stayed on Thor, who still knelt broken in the crater, rain dripping down his face. After a moment, he asked quietly, "Why would there even be a seal on him? What kind of father does that to his son?"
Alex didn't look away, his gaze sharp, reading the faint energy lines around Thor's body. "Because he had to. I can see it clearly—the seal isn't random. It's binding all of Thor's power away from him. Whoever placed it wanted to teach him something, not destroy him."
Phil frowned. "You said it looked like it's locked tight. How can you even tell?"
Alex's eyes glimmered faintly, his voice steady. "It's like looking at chains made of light. They're wrapped around his aura. His strength is there, but buried. Unless he breaks the lesson behind the seal, he'll never touch it again."
Phil let out a low breath, rubbing the back of his neck. "So, bottom line… right now, he's powerless."
Alex finally glanced at him, his expression calm but firm. "That's right. Without that hammer, he's no stronger than a normal man. You've already beaten him by locking him up. He's harmless—for now."
Phil studied him for a moment, then looked back at Thor slumped against Mjolnir. "Harmless… doesn't feel like the right word. But if you're right, then all we've got is a man who thinks he's a god—and a hammer no one can lift."
Alex gave a faint smirk. "Exactly. The difference is… this man is a god. He just doesn't have the power to prove it yet."
The floodlights cut through the rain as more agents moved into the crater, rifles aimed steady. Thor didn't fight. He was still on his knees, his head low against Mjolnir's handle, silent.
"Take him," Phil ordered.
Two men grabbed Thor by the arms and pulled him back. He didn't resist, just let them drag him away, his eyes still fixed on the hammer as if it were the only thing left in his world.
Up on the platform, Phil watched closely. "Not much of a fight left in him."
Alex's arms were crossed, his tone calm. "He doesn't need to fight right now. That hammer was his test—and he failed. That broke him more than any cage will."
Phil nodded slowly. "So what do we do with him?"
Alex tilted his head, watching as Thor was pushed through the mud toward the waiting trucks. "Keep him contained. He can't hurt you without his power. But watch him closely. The seal won't last forever."
Phil gave him a sharp look. "Meaning what?"
Alex finally turned, his eyes serious. "Meaning the moment he learns what he was meant to… those chains will break. And when that happens, you won't be able to stop him."
Phil was silent for a moment, then let out a breath through his nose. "Guess I'll be hoping that lesson takes a long time, then."
The truck doors slammed shut, locking Thor inside. The engine rumbled as agents prepared to haul him back to the secure holding area.
Phil stayed on the platform, arms folded, his eyes following every move. "We'll set guards, patrol rotations, constant surveillance. He doesn't leave that compound without us knowing."
Alex shook his head slightly, his tone relaxed but firm. "You don't need to cage him like a beast. Just keep eyes on him. He's powerless right now. Spies, cameras, a few good men—that's more than enough."
Phil glanced at him, brow raised. "You're that sure?"
Alex nodded, eyes still on the truck. "That seal stripped him down to almost nothing. Right now, he's no more dangerous than any strong mortal. If he tried to escape, your men could put him on the ground easily. What you should be worried about isn't his strength…"
Phil's voice was even. "Then what?"
Alex's gaze sharpened. "The moment that seal breaks. That's when you'll see the God of Thunder for real. Until then? He's harmless."
