18th November 2218, Nigeria, Anambra state
Emmanuel ran into the house sweating while wearing his School uniform as he held his phone, his eyes painting a picture of worry
He had just been at school after school hours practicing football with his other teammates as there were preparing for a regional football tournament. Their school had been champions thrice so they had to work hard to make their school proud.
He had just finished training and was about to rest before going back home when he got a text from his mother that his father had fainted from stress and was about to be rushed to the hospital.
Emmanuel was immediately put in a state of panic as he ran back not caring if he was seen as a mad man by people who saw him running hazardly across roads to reach his home
Entering his home which was dark as the lights was off, he thought that his family had already rushed his father to the hospital.
"Mom"!! He called out as he threw his bag down reaching for the lights and turned them on.
"Happy birthday"!! Came voices scaring him as he fell down scared. After a while, he scrambled back to his feet feeling embarrassed
"You guys" Emmanuel smiled wryly
"Heh, didn't expect this to happen did you?, guess whose idea it was"? Amanda, a little girl of about 12 years old said as she raised her head up high in pride with her hands on her hips expectantly waiting for praise
"Of course it was Mum's idea" Emmanuel said while smiling mischievously as she walked towards his sister
"You.... Dumb big brother"
"Alright, it's enough children let Emmanuel make a wish" A middle aged man in his late forties with gentle eyes said bringing Emmanuel close to the table where his wife had already kept the cake
"C'mon make a wish big bro" Amanda said as she skillfully put a cone hat on his head
"Alright" Emmanuel said as he closed his eyes and muttered some words
' I wish for a happy life with my family and loved ones '
With a big smile on his face, he blew out the candle.
"I'm done" he said opening his eyes only to see his family frozen
