Starting at 11 o'clock, Chris accumulated his 6,000th reputation point at 2:30 in the morning.
It took three and a half hours to complete fifteen tasks and gain twenty reputation points.
Every Dynamax battle required Chris's physical presence to enter and complete, but even after fifteen battles—five of which were particularly challenging—Chris emerged victorious and energized!
On one hand, the physical enhancement provided by the three orbs meant he wouldn't tire even after staying awake for a week. On the other hand, with Kubfu so close within reach, how could he possibly give up now!
"Kubfu, hehehe, Kubfu~~"
Chris walked cheerfully and hurried to Master Mustard's martial arts dojo with his 6,000 reputation points, seeking the senior disciple to conduct his promotion assessment.
[Senior Brother: The promotion test for direct disciples is conducted by the Master himself]
[Senior Brother: Hurry to the dojo—the Master is already waiting for you there]
Chris headed straight toward the dojo. The promotion from ordinary disciple to core disciple had also been a task issued by the Master himself.
That task had required finding 3 Max Mushrooms and 1 Max Honey.
Max Mushrooms and Max Honey were ingredients for the "Max Soup" that allowed Pokemon to perform special Dynamax transformations.
So Chris had deliberately collected extras. After becoming a core disciple, he immediately purchased the Max Soup recipe and used the surplus ingredients to prepare Max Soup for Venusaur and Gengar.
Now both Pokemon possessed exclusive Dynamax capabilities!
His character approached the dojo entrance and stepped inside.
The scenery before Chris transformed, revealing an empty dojo hall. The sides were open, allowing him to feel the gentle warmth of sunlight streaming through, accompanied by the soft chiming of wind bells swaying in the breeze.
A serene atmosphere enveloped Chris.
Chris's heart skipped a beat.
His physical body had entered the game dojo!
The last time he'd visited Master Mustard to receive his promotion task, his actual body hadn't entered the game dojo.
Therefore, this promotion task would be conducted directly within the dojo.
Could it be a battle against Master Mustard?
Directly in front of Chris, Master Mustard lay sideways on the wooden floor, one hand supporting his head while the other operated a handheld gaming device.
"Little Windy~ Have you decided to become my direct disciple?" Master Mustard asked without looking up, his hands never pausing their gameplay.
"Yes," Chris replied. He didn't care whether Master Mustard taught him Pokemon battling techniques—his true objective was only Kubfu. Otherwise, he would have left the Isle of Armor long ago.
Only then did Master Mustard look up.
"This old man has taken many disciples, but only one direct disciple—the current Galar Region Champion Leon, Little Leo~"
Calling Leon "Little Leo"?
Chris suddenly felt goosebumps.
Compared to "Little Windy," "Little Leo" felt even more uncomfortable.
He wondered how Master Mustard had developed this verbal habit.
However, Master Mustard was the only person in the world who could address the so-called "strongest Champion" Leon in such a manner.
"I don't require you to possess Pokemon battling talent like Leon, but at minimum, you must demonstrate a Trainer's love for Pokemon." Master Mustard produced a Poke Ball. "This old man believes nothing better reflects a Trainer's attitude toward Pokemon than battle."
"So let's have a match! Show me your Pokemon's devotion and your passion!" Master Mustard abandoned his casual demeanor, rising from the ground with a serious expression, even setting his gaming device aside.
"After all that talk, it's still about fighting," Chris grumbled. "What are the rules?"
"No rules—as long as you can defeat this old man, even if you use six Pokemon or fight personally."
"And I'll only use one Pokemon!" With that declaration, Master Mustard had already thrown his Poke Ball.
Silver light erupted, and a one-meter-tall humanoid bear Pokemon landed before him.
This Urshifu's fur drooped across its entire body, extraordinarily thick, as if wearing an impermeable coat.
Above its head appeared "Urshifu LV70."
"Ur... Urshifu?! And it's the Rapid Strike Style Urshifu!" Chris's mouth twitched slightly. Although he knew Master Mustard's ace was Urshifu, he hadn't expected the Master to deploy it when assessing his own disciple.
This was a legendary Pokemon!
No wonder there were no rules.
The only fortunate aspect was that its level was merely 70.
Probably not Master Mustard's true ace.
Therefore, Master Mustard possessed at least two Urshifu and one Kubfu.
Incredible.
Master Mustard crossed his arms, the corners of his mouth rising in satisfaction at Chris's surprised expression, thinking silently, "Sorry! Little Windy, you didn't need to battle it to become my direct disciple before, but now, if you want the opportunity to train Kubfu, you must at least gain its mother's recognition as a Trainer worthy of trust!"
Chris observed Urshifu but felt no fear.
Urshifu could be considered a legendary Pokemon, but its base stat total of 670 placed it at the bottom tier among legendary Pokemon, comparable to the three legendary birds.
He had personally defeated Zapdos—a Zapdos that mastered spatial power. Did he really need to fear Urshifu?
"Go, Zeraora!"
The silver and white feline with gleaming white sparks landed gracefully.
"Roar!" The large cat roared with arms spread wide, its fighting spirit blazing. Aside from the Zapdos it had once encountered, this was the strongest opponent it had ever faced.
However, the current situation differed from before.
Zapdos's electric attacks had no effect on Zeraora—instead serving as "supplements"—but the large bear before it was different. The oppressive force and aura emanating from it was something unprecedented and could not be ignored.
Urshifu represented a more threatening opponent than Zapdos!
Zeraora was thrilled!
Even more excited than Zeraora was Master Mustard.
He stared at Chris's Zeraora with bright eyes.
"Little Windy, your Pokemon is the mighty Zeraora?!"
"It seems this will be an evenly matched battle!" Master Mustard said eagerly. "Come on, let's begin our battle!"
From the sidelines, the senior brother had entered the arena at some point, serving as this match's referee.
