Chapter 221 - Chapter 221 - The Threat Is Already Chasing Her.

[Chapter Size: 2000 Words.]

Third Person POV

Hengfors League.

...

...

"Here it is."

Ciri approached Geralt with the head of a Leshen she had just faced in a forest.

"This..." He was stunned by the kind of creature she had faced, this wasn't something even an experienced witcher could do without great caution, yet the young girl, who hadn't even had four full years of training, had done it.

"Are you surprised? I managed to do it alone, Madara was just there in case I got into trouble, but I defeated the creature." Ciri said in an excited tone, proud that she had defeated a high-level monster alone for the first time.

"Couldn't you have chosen a smaller monster with her?" Geralt turned to Madara with a slightly displeased look for putting Ciri in such a dangerous situation.

"Stop being overprotective. She's more powerful than all of you now, she needs to get stronger and get used to her powers." Madara said.

"..."

Geralt said nothing.

"Geralt, did you know I can see the future for one second? I can anticipate any move, ever since what happened in Kaedwen, I feel like my powers are easier to access, and I can do things I couldn't before, isn't it amazing?" She said with the same excitement.

"..."

Geralt looked at her for a second without saying anything and sighed.

"You spent a day hunting the Leshen, are you going to hunt any more monsters from that notice board?" Geralt asked.

After all, Madara and Ciri had gone to train as they did during the journey, and Madara had taken Ciri to hunt a monster while things would go faster with the two of them, being able to move at high speed, with Madara using chakra on his feet and Ciri teleporting, greatly improving her mobility to the point she could almost move like Madara.

"You must be joking." Madara said before pulling out a scroll and summoning nearly two dozen monsters, as he put Ciri into non-stop combat without rest or sleep, pushing her to see how far she'd go, and he wasn't dissatisfied.

There were all kinds of monsters and animals, from small to medium-sized of every possible kind in that forest, as well as some animals requested in the bounties, with Madara bringing their entire bodies each time Ciri killed them.

"You hunted all the monsters..." Geralt merely muttered, quite surprised by it.

"You'll take them to the small town that posted the bounties, and they'll need this." He said, summoning a cart where he had to help Madara load all the monster heads and bodies.

"You know how suspicious this will look, right?" Geralt muttered.

"Maybe, but it doesn't matter with you showing up alone." Madara replied while Geralt nodded and headed to the town, leaving the place after attaching the cart to the horses.

"I'm going." He said, looking slightly dissatisfied with his role being practically that of an assistant to two teenagers, whom he himself should be training under normal circumstances.

"Will he be okay?" Ciri approached beside Madara with a worried look.

"I placed a few clones to secretly accompany him." He said and turned back to her.

"Now let's train a bit more, you against me." Madara said.

"More fighting?" She asked, stunned, hoping to finally rest.

"We'll rest after this fight, I want to push you to the limit, all those monsters weren't enough." He said, and Ciri had no choice as they left the area near the house where Geralt had comfortably stayed, with the two of them going off to hunt monsters in the region.

Madara fought with Ciri, not using jutsus or his powers, while she continued training her future sight, which had finally started to emerge after years of practice.

Madara knew that Ciri had far more potential than he had seen, wanting to push her toward abilities that would make her vastly more powerful—like her future vision, which allowed her to fight with a passive ability, seeing any attack or situation in advance, whether a trap, a surprise assault, or even a spoken word when she was focused. Madara simply wanted her to push those abilities.

In the end, they trained for two straight hours, and Ciri finally collapsed on the ground, dirty and sweaty, breathing heavily.

"Madara..."

She muttered between breaths, looking up at the sky as Madara approached her completely unfazed. He had taken the fight so seriously that not even her future vision worked against him, as he was far faster than her body could keep up with.

She turned her eyes, seeing him silently staring at her.

"Why are you doing this? You've never made me train this hard before?"

She asked between breaths.

"To make you stronger. So you can take care of yourself when I can't."

He said.

"But why now? So suddenly?"

She asked, finding it strange.

"Because you need to."

Madara replied.

He couldn't know exactly what would happen between them in the future, but he didn't want Ciri to always depend on him for everything. After all, she had been alone for three years in the story he knew, and he would do everything to prevent that from happening while he was around. But he still had to train her, because Ciri needed to face her own challenges. And if fate were to separate them, she would be strong enough to take care of herself and find her way back to this world more easily.

"You didn't answer me..."

She pouted at hearing that from Madara, ignoring his answer.

"Let's rest."

Madara picked her up like a princess.

"Wait, I don't want to go to bed like this!"

She complained.

"Obviously, you stink. We're going to the river."

He replied with a smile.

"Thanks... Wait! Who are you calling—"

She didn't even finish before Madara dashed toward a tree nearby and reached the forest river close to their location.

Meanwhile, Geralt was getting a lot of attention in the town as he led two horses pulling a cart stacked with monster and animal heads and bodies. The guards at the town entrance couldn't believe what they were seeing.

"I remember you from yesterday morning... Witcher... are you saying you killed all these monsters in just one day?!"

One guard said, stunned by Geralt's cart.

"I'm in a bit of a hurry and I need money too."

Geralt simply replied, trying to sound confident.

"Hurry my ass! I've seen Witchers hunting in this region, none of them work this fast and with so many monsters!"

The other guard tried to argue.

"Does it matter?! Isn't every monster head from the notice board right here?"

Geralt said, and one guard looked at the other still not understanding how it was possible, but the witcher's logic was solid.

"Let him in, and let the mayor handle his reward."

They said, opening the gate for him. Geralt passed through the entrance and into the city streets.

Obviously, he drew immediate attention. The smell and flies left a trail behind him, and the villagers—peasants and workers alike—stared in shock at the pile of monsters the witcher was hauling through the streets.

Geralt might have never walked away from a hunt with so much attention, not even when he saved a princess from a curse after a king had a daughter with his own sister, because here, the news spread across the town, and soon everyone gathered to watch him pass by with a cart full of dead monsters.

It didn't take long for men on horseback to arrive, stopping his path as they rode straight toward the witcher.

"The mayor of the town wants to see you."

One of them informed as they escorted him to the main building.

The mayor, whom Geralt would've had to see eventually, was already waiting for him. Geralt stepped down from the cart and followed the guards to the man, while other city officials approached the cart and began inspecting the dead animals.

"You had quite the hunt, Witcher."

The mayor began, examining the cart as the men pulled the heads out and dropped them on the ground for a better look, staining the floor with blood.

"I was lucky."

Geralt commented, thinking that Madara's idea would definitely bring trouble, while clones watched the entire situation from rooftops unnoticed.

"Lucky? I don't know your methods, but you've certainly caught my attention—and will catch the attention of others too."

He said.

"Am I not getting the full payment?"

Geralt asked.

"Of course you are, don't worry. The town of Barhim pays its debts. I'm Mayor Mirund, at your service. Still, I'm sure the noble who governs these lands will have another job for you—I'd like you to pay him a visit."

Mayor Mirund said.

"I might not have time for that..."

Geralt replied, but the mayor looked at him with a hint of displeasure.

"Then I might not be able to pay you. After all, the gold you're receiving belongs to the noble I mentioned. If you want the money, you'll have to speak with him—he's to the south of here, at the large estate you'll see along the main road. I believe you won't refuse if you want your reward..."

He said, and Geralt didn't like that.

"Why do I have to see this noble?"

Geralt asked.

"Because he's dealing with a certain problem, and someone with your skills could be quite useful."

He answered.

"My lord!"

The man checking the monster heads called out, approaching.

"All the monsters from the bounties are here..."

He reported.

"That's great. Let me write you a letter authorizing you to collect all the rewards when you visit him and hear him out. Besides, he's Lord Lucas Abutec—his family has ruled these lands for over 300 years."

The mayor informed as he stepped away.

Geralt simply stood there while the mayor entered the building and wrote what was needed on a sheet with quill and ink. A moment later, he returned with the document sealed with the city's stamp.

"Here you go, Witcher. I'm sure you'll be very pleased to meet Lord Abutec."

The mayor said as Geralt simply took the paper and began to leave, taking only the horses.

At the same time, Madara was still at the river while he and Ciri had been bathing all that time, with the girl laughing.

"I think we should go now... don't you? Or do you want us to turn into drowners too?"

She asked with a mischievous and playful smile.

"Alright."

Madara said calmly as they began to leave, putting their clothes back on outside the river.

Madara glanced to the side at that moment as his clone relayed its memories—it had been watching the area to ensure no one approached, when an elf appeared with a bow, moving toward that part of the forest. A kunai was thrown near his feet before he could get closer, making him jump back, startled. He quickly searched for the source, but the clone was too well hidden among the trees.

Madara threw another kunai, which struck a tree beside the elf, making it clear how much danger he was in, prompting him to flee in the opposite direction.

"Could that be one of the Squirrels?"

Madara wondered, as the elf was dressed like an assassin and hunter—traits typical of the Scoia'tael who raided travelers.

"What are you mumbling about?"

Ciri asked, finishing dressing and looking at Madara curiously.

"Nothing important."

Madara didn't give it much attention, though he did find it odd for Squirrels to be this far north on the continent.

In the end, Madara and Ciri returned to rest, sleeping together, while Madara got up during the night, with Ciri still trying to recover her body after being awake and fighting all day long.

He landed beside Geralt at a campfire outside, the witcher already used to these movements.

"I saw my clones' memories. You've become famous in that little town."

Madara said calmly, grabbing something to eat.

"So you know..."

Geralt muttered, pulling out the letter.

"Anyway, I wasn't paid for the bounties. Instead, I have to go to some place to do a job for some high noble."

He commented.

"As long as it's not a duke, it's fine."

Madara replied with a bit of humor.

He looked at the letter but said nothing, and didn't seem inclined to ignore it either.

"Why are you pushing Ciri harder than before?"

Geralt asked suddenly, knowing Madara was hiding something.

"..."

Madara didn't answer immediately.

"Is it about those dragons, or the strange armor?"

Geralt asked, already suspecting it was one of those things. After all, it was after the encounter with that Viper School witcher that Madara began to change a little.

"If I'm right, they're the Wild Hunt..."

Madara said, as Geralt raised an eyebrow.

"Those from the myth?"

Geralt knew the legend like many others.

"Yes... and they're after Ciri's powers."

Madara replied, staring directly into the flames that night, his tone serious and cold.
