Chapter 113 - A Line of Communication

The Commander pulled out his special pocket watch and opened the lid. "Midshipman Fenix" he said clearly. They waited a few minutes without response. "Let me try something else.", looking at the watch he said "Hermione". A moment later they heard a woman's voice respond. "Commander? It's good to see you!" she exclaimed. "Hermione, I am here with the Prime Minister and Midshipman Fenix's new commander, Major Tiff." "Is Evan all right?" she began, frightened. "He's fine as far as we can tell. We need your help." Responded the Commander. "Ah. I am sorry. Prime Minister, good to see you again. Major. How can I help you?" The Major in the meantime in a bit of shock – by the sound of it, the Commander was talking with a young woman. "Hermione. We are trying to reach Midshipman Fenix with the communicator, but he is not responding. We need to talk with him." He continued. "Well, I know he is on mission, and he takes his team's security very seriously. He hasn't contacted me with the communicator, just a note saying he was OK." She responded. "I am guessing that with the Major knowing about the communicator, he is in the know?" "Yes, he is now. Hermione, we really need to talk with him as soon as possible. Can you help us out?" asked the Commander. "I'll see what I can do, Commander. If you don't hear from him in 10 minutes, call me back." Hermione replied.

A few minutes later they heard a man's voice from the communicator – "Commander Green"

CHAPTER BREAK

"Midshipman Fenix. Good to hear your voice. I am here with the Prime Minister, and Major Tiff is sharing this call with us." Began the Commander. "I take it that, by using this means of communication that the Major is now in the know?" responded Evan. The Commander chuckled…"Yes, he is Midshipman. Hermione asked the same question" Replied the Commander. "First off, how is your team?" ask the Major. "LT and Cross are wounded and unconscious, sir. We removed the shrapnel and patched them up as best we can. No infection and the wounds appear to be healing. The Ambassador was slightly wounded in the upper arm, but is alive and well. Travis and Xavier have broken arms. McCormic, Bremmer and I are fully functional. The helicopter crew is dead. McCormick has taken lead. Sirs, due to circumstances in the field that were not under my control, I felt it necessary to read them in, including the Ambassador, as well" Evan responded. "The Commander filled us in just a few minutes ago, Fenix" replied the Major. "Who else is in on this call, Fenix?" asked the Major. "McCormic, Bremmer and the Ambassador, Sir." "Madam Ambassador – we are sorry to hear the path this mission took. Do you have any information you can relay to us, that we may assist you in your mission?" asked the Major. "I was instructed to initiate some peace talks. It did not go well. Other than that, the prisoner Mr. Fenix questioned said something about wanting me as their prisoner. He did not explain." Replied the Ambassador. "Fenix, expound." "Yes, sir. While getting the LT and Cross down to the river, a wizard and a vampire appeared in front of us. I took down the vampire and disarmed the wizard." Evan began. McCormick cut in – "literally, sir". "Yes – I removed his weapon and his arm. We applied a tourniquet. Afterwards, once we were on the river and away from the area, I questioned him." "He talked willingly?" asked the Major. "No. He was very smug and arrogant. I applied pressure to some pressure points. Eventually he told us that Voldemort wanted the Ambassador as a prisoner. He either couldn't or wouldn't expound on that. The wizards pressured the vampires to assist – not sure how they did that." Evan responded. "Last question, how soon can you get back to base?" asked the Major. "That's a trick question, sir. Hoofing it the way we are, probably another 10 days. If we can 'confiscate' a vehicle, one or two days." Replied Evan. "And by magical means?" asked the Commander. "That would depend on how fast you can find someone to make a portkey for us, and getting it to us here. As you remember with the snake, sir, it took only a minute to get from south of England to the north of England." Evan replied. "What kind of information do they need to know to make one?" asked the Commander. "I truly do not know, Commander. Perhaps you could ask Madam Bones?" responded Evan. "Madam Bones?" asked the Major. "Former Head of their security forces. Long story. She now lives in France." Responded the Commander. "Keeping tabs on her, are you sir?" chided Evan. (If one were to be looking at the group of soldiers with Midshipman Fenix, one would get the impression of an audience watching a tennis or ping-pong match. "Is she also aware of this mission?" asked the Major, wondering how big a breach there was. "No, sir. She was with us at Christ Church in Oxford, then the thing at the Queens castle, and at Hermione's." replied Evan. " Christ Church? You were there? The thing at the Queens castle?" repeated the Major. "I'd be happy to tell you during debrief, sir." "We are going to have a long talk, aren't we, Fenix?" said the Major somewhat sarcastically. "Yes, sir." Replied Evan flatly. "Give us about an hour, Midshipman. Keep your thingy handy." Said the Commander, then disconnected.
