Chapter 8 - Chapter7:Back to school.

Grrrgrrrgrrr!

Kayne woke up at the sound of the alarm, turned it off and left the bed immediately, not looking like someone who just got up.

A few minutes later he stood in front of his mirror, his grey eyes a distinct difference from his mom's and Ryan's.

His eyes had a warm and enthralling feel, unlike his mom and brother's cold grey eyes.

After a while he exhaled, picked up his glasses and left the room.

Just as he was about to get to the car he heard the voice he dreaded the most.

"You're back…"

Ryan was also just getting out of the annex.

'Oh God, I thought he was out of the country'

Adjusting his voice without turning to look at him he replied.

"Hmmm. I got back yesterday"

Ryan nodded and proceeded to his car without a word.

Watching the car leave,Kayne couldn't help but remember a scary memory.

Back then he was six years old and it was just confirmed that he has a low IQ and all.

So his parents lost interest in him.

Ryan would always pour out his frustrations on him by hitting him, locking him up, he always sought opportunities to abuse Kayne mentally.

He only stopped when Kayne got to Highschool.

"That crazy psycho," Kayne muttered as his car drove off.

McReynolds High School

As soon as Kayne got to school, the first thing he noticed was a scan machine, and apparently it was to detect meta's.

He fidgeted for a while and watched as the students passed through the scanner and it glowed green.

"Oh God, what if it detects me as a meta?"

"What would I do then?"

Kayne couldn't help but notice the logo for his dad's company on the machine.

Why do I feel like Ryan is suspicious? It's almost as if he knew all that would happen.

Just as he was deciding on missing school. A hand rested on his shoulder.

"Well well, if it isn't my dear friend Kayne"

"I really don't have your time right now, Steven" he replied while gazing directly into Steven's eye.

Steven withdrew his smile hearing Kayne's voice.

"You know something has changed about you, I could always notice you were bluffing when you replied to me in the past, but right now I can sense power in your voice, your ambience. This is fun" Saying this Steven pushed Kayne through the scan.

"Noooooo"Kayne shouted, then he waited to hear a negative sound but nothing happened.

"There are too many eyes outside, and the 'Guards' also" Steven mentioned while pointing outside.

Kayne didn't reply but went out through the scan, then came back in again.

"What's wrong with you? Are you scared already?" Steven said.

'Uhh was he bluffing again? I thought he had really changed? Guess I was worried about nothing'

Meanwhile Kayne was also lost in his own thoughts.

'What's going on? The test and now this? What am I really?'

Kayne squinted at his

"I'm talking to you…." Steven threw a frustrated punch at Kayne.

Without paying attention Kayne dodged it effortlessly, causing Steven to trip.

Bammm.

Not paying attention to Steven who was on the floor he prepared to leave.

"Damnit, how dare you?"

Steven jumped on his feet and grabbed Kayne's shoulder preparing to pin him to the ground.

Knowing Steven's intention, Kayne effortlessly dragged Steven to face him and punched him in his gut.

"That's for a year of putting up with you"

"Arrhhhhhhhh" Immediately the blow landed Steven cried out in pain drawing more attention than there was already.

He dropped to the ground crying furiously as he gripped his stomach.

No, I can't be bested. I must always win. I must have the upper hand.

As Steven was battling himself in his mind.

Kayne looked at him, clicked his tongue and walked away.

"Kayne" a melodious voice sounded in the hall.

Kayne looked up to see Jenny smiling as she approached him.

He adjusted his glasses, avoiding Jenny's gaze as she stopped in front of him.

"Kayne…" her voice was soft as she looked down playing with her fingers.

"I'm sorry I didn't come that night. And when you were in the hospital… I should have checked on you. I feel bad."

He shrugged lightly. "You don't need to."

Jenny frowned, searching his face. "Still… how are you now?"

Kayne scratched the back of his neck. "Alive. That's enough, right?"

"I can text you right?" Jenny said as she smiled faintly, but her eyes lingered on him longer than he could handle. Kayne looked away, pretending not to notice.

The bell rang, saving him from replying further.

Across the street, a figure in a simple coat leaned on the rails. Elina's voice was cold over her comm. "Delvan, he walked through the scan. It didn't detect him as a Meta."

"That complicates things," Delvan replied.

"I must get into the school," she insisted, eyes narrowing.

Delvan sighed. "Not easy, but possible. What role do you want?"

Elina's lips curved into a wicked grin. "Teacher."
