Chapter 103 - Overcharged

While Caitlin's newfound powers were quite a surprise for the team, their main goal is still catching the Man in Yellow.

As for Barry, he is back in CCPD. Just because the team is setting up a big trap to capture the man in yellow doesn't mean it allows Barry to skip work.

He still needs to clock in and get his work done. Luckily, everything's easy with super speed.

After finishing the last file on his table, he meets up with Joe and informs him about Caitlin's recent power discovery.

"So Caitlin's now a Meta Human and she can make ice?" Joe asks, his voice filled with all kinds of emotions, surprise, skepticism, concern, caution, and many more.

"Not just make Ice, she can control the temperature of any living thing or object. She can syphon energy from anything and turn it into ice," Barry says.

"Do you think... she will pose any danger?" Joe asks.

"You know Caitlin, she won't," Barry says.

"Well, almost all Meta Humans except you have been a pain in the ass, and hell bent on using it for personal gain. Not everyone's like you, Barry, so it's a very legit concern," Joe says.

"I understand, but I know Caitlin. She can control herself. And if things do go south, I will stop her," Barry says.

He is not an idiot. He knows the possibility of Caitlin going rogue is very high. Every iteration of Caitlin that was shown on the TV show turned into Killer Frost, but he also believes she can control her powers with proper training and emotional support.

The reason Caitlin became cold was that her emotions were all over the place, and she panicked. She decided to take help from the wrong person, but this time, she has Barry to lean on.

He will not lead her astray.

"What about the tachyon device? Did Dr. McGee agree to give the Tachyon device?" Barry asks.

"No, but Dr. Wells managed to force her into handing it over," Joe says.

"How?" Barry asks.

"He threatened to expose some of the things her lab is working on to the public," Joe says.

Barry nods.

In the TV show, it was the emotionally charged Barry who threatened McGee into handing over the device, but since Barry didn't do it here, Dr. Wells took it upon himself to acquire it.

Barry's not surprised. Dr. Wells would go to any lengths to achieve his goal.

"Where is it?" Barry asks.

"Dr. Wells took it with him to S.T.A.R. Labs. The plan is set in motion," Joe says.

"Then we should head back as well," Barry suggests.

"Yes, let me finish up hear. I will meet you at S.T.A.R. Labs," Joe says.

"Okay, I will leave first," Barry says and exits CCPD. Once he is out and away from people, he enters Flash Time and zooms back to S.T.A.R. Labs, where the team is waiting for him.

Barry enters the cortex of the lab and sees the team standing around a weird-looking device.

"Is that the device?" Barry asks as he walks towards it.

Seeing his arrival, Caitlin moves to the side to let Barry into the circle.

"Yes, an amazing marvel of engineering and science. I must say, I have to give it to Dr. McGee and her team for developing it," Dr. Wells says, looking at the Tachyon device with a strange look which no one seems to notice.

"This thing is sick! The energy readings coming from it are bonkers. If this thing is further developed. It can energize an entire city for years," Cisco says.

Barry, too, is fascinated by looking at it. He might not be as much of a science geek as the previous Barry, but he does have the same mind, so he finds this thing very interesting.

Unable to hold back his curiosity, Barry brings his hand forward to examine it, but before he could even touch it, a spark flies out of his finger and touches the tachyon device, causing it to light up with a humming sound and expand.

"Whoa! What did you do?" Cisco asks.

"I did nothing!" Barry says, a little panicked.

"Mr. Allan, please step back a little," Dr. Wells says. Barry listens to him and steps back; the device immediately stops glowing.

"Cisco, what's its current energy output?" Dr. Wells asks as he notices something.

Cisco immediately grabs his tablet to check on it and is shocked by the readings he is looking at.

"Holy shit! Its energy output has tripled!" Cisco says.

"Fascinating! It seems like the device has managed to harness more tachyon particles after coming in contact with the speed force inside Mr. Allan's body." Dr. Wells says. His tone was a little more enthusiastic than usual.

"Isn't this bad? We are now handing over an overcharged Tachyon device to a psychopathic speedster," Cisco says. The horror of almost getting killed, still fresh in his mind.

"Indeed, if this speedster gets his hand on this device now. His speed might increase a lot. But that's not the plan, is it? We are using it to lure him into a trap.

When he is trapped, no matter how fast he becomes, he will stay in," Dr. Wells says. A clear lie.

"Mr. Allan, I think you should stay away from the device. It's clearly very reactive to your presence since your connection to the Speed Force is very potent. We don't want to blow it up before using it, do we?" Dr. Wells says, smiling.

Barry looks at him and nods.

He didn't expect him just trying to touch the device would overcharge it. But he isn't surprised. With so many tachyons flowing inside his body, a device that's made to harness them would indeed react.

Unknowingly, he just made the Reverse Flash even faster. This is another unexpected outcome.

Is this because of the change he made in the past, or was this the outcome from the very moment he took over this body? Nobody knows. But is it of any concern? No. Not at all.

Barry can feel it. Even with the overcharged tachyon device, the Reverse Flash still won't be able to match his speed.
