Ben stood on the wall and forced himself to think clearly.
If the Ravagers broke through the inner walls, everything would fall apart.
He still had one more line of defenses, but using it meant giving up ground.
He did not want to retreat.
His fingers tightened around the railing.
"Switch to close range!" he ordered through the hive mind.
"Scouts, aim for the Brutes' legs.
Slow them down.
Squad, move forward."
The Krell reacted at once.
Arrows dropped to lower angles.
Explosive bolts slammed into joints, ankles, and knees.
BOOM.
BOOM.
The leading Brutes staggered as blasts tore into their legs.
Their charge broke.
Some of them collapsed outright when their armor and muscles could not carry their own weight anymore.
Ben did not stop there.
"Drop it!"
A heavy thump shook the wall as one of the mounted traps triggered.
A huge mushroom tree trunk, cut, reinforced, and held in place until now, dropped free.
Gravity took it.
