Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Four-Star Dragon Ball

At this moment, Son Goku's attention was focused on John and Bulma.

Seeing people other than his grandfather for the first time, Goku was very curious and kept staring at John and Bulma.

John and Bulma couldn't help but feel a bit uncomfortable under his gaze, especially Bulma.

Bulma, being the daughter of the Capsule Corporation's chairman and a well-mannered young lady, had a bit of a temper. She shouted, "Why are you staring at us? It's very impolite!"

Goku innocently asked, "Why do you look different from us, and why is your butt in front?"

John almost laughed out loud at Goku's question.

Bulma, on the other hand, was completely taken aback and angrily shouted, "Because I'm a girl! You country bumpkin!" She was about to rush forward and teach this disrespectful boy a lesson.

John quickly stopped her, saying, "Bulma, calm down. He's just a child, and he's never seen a woman before, so it's natural for him to be curious."

Goku, who didn't understand Bulma's sudden anger, asked innocently, "Why are you so angry? I just asked a question."

After hearing Bulma's explanation, Goku immediately understood and politely bowed to her, saying, "My grandfather taught me that when I meet a girl, I should be very polite to her."

Goku's sincere gesture completely disarmed Bulma, who realized that he wasn't being rude on purpose. He simply didn't know how to interact politely with others.

Seeing Goku's innocence, Bulma couldn't bring herself to scold him.

"Never mind, never mind. I forgive you, but in the future, you must be more polite to girls. It's very impolite to behave like this," Bulma said, waving her hand.

Goku was still a bit confused by Bulma's words, but he remembered something his grandfather had told him. Whenever he met a girl, he should invite her to eat.

So, Goku pulled up his tail and said to John and Bulma, "You're the first people I've met besides my grandfather. I'll treat you to a meal. This is the prey I caught today."

Unlike in the manga, this time, Bulma had John with her, so she didn't think of asking Goku to be their bodyguard. She declined, "There's no need for a meal..."

But before she could finish, John interrupted, "Of course, we'd love to. And you can also try the food we brought. Let's treat each other to a meal."

"Really? That's great! Come with me. My home is not far from here," Goku said excitedly, dragging his fish forward.

As they watched Goku walk away, Bulma turned to John and asked, "Aren't we supposed to be looking for the Dragon Balls? Why are we following this little kid to eat?"

John got into the car and started the engine as he replied, "Don't underestimate him because of his age. He's very strong. Even though I hit him with the car while he was unaware, he didn't suffer any injuries. But look at you; you felt some pain, and then it was gone."

"Although not many people know about the Dragon Balls, there are some who do. I don't know what dangers we might encounter in the future, and I might not be able to handle them..."

"So, you want to recruit this kid to our team?" Bulma asked, interrupting John.

"What do you mean by 'recruit'? It's not like we're bandits or thieves," John objected to Bulma's use of the word "recruit."

"You're so sneaky! I need to be careful around you and not let you sell me out. I'm still counting the money," Bulma joked.

As John slowly drove the car behind Goku, Bulma suddenly said, "This time, when we're looking for the Dragon Balls, it's not like you had planned it beforehand, is it?"

John was startled, but he maintained his composure and pretended to be wronged, "How could I? Although I told you about the Dragon Balls, I never suggested that we go out and find them together."

"And besides, you're only 16 years old this year. No matter how I think about it, I wouldn't have suggested bringing a 16-year-old girl with no strength to join me in searching for the Dragon Balls."

Bulma thought about it and agreed, "Okay, I apologize. I was wrong to suspect you."

Hearing Bulma no longer suspecting him, John breathed a sigh of relief.

Initially, when John first met Bulma, he had ulterior motives and wanted to get close to her to learn about the Dragon Radar. But now, he genuinely considered her a friend and didn't want to lose her over a minor issue.

Goku's home was indeed not far away, and they soon arrived at his small, traditional Chinese-style house.

The house had only one room and one living room, and it was so small that it could barely accommodate two people.

Goku opened the door and invited John and Bulma inside.

On the altar was the four-star Dragon Ball, which immediately caught everyone's attention.

John was drawn to it because his second goal was to obtain the four-star Dragon Ball. Bulma, on the other hand, was surprised to see the four-star Dragon Ball glowing on the altar.

Goku was attracted to the glowing Dragon Ball because he thought it was his deceased grandfather communicating with him.

Goku excitedly shouted, "Grandpa, Grandpa, are you talking to me?"

But Bulma, who had followed behind, said, "What grandpa? That's the four-star Dragon Ball. It's not your grandpa."

Goku objected, "You're wrong! That's my grandpa. He's talking to me. Why else would it be glowing?"

"Country bumpkin, that's because we also brought Dragon Balls with us. They're resonating with each other," Bulma explained, taking out the other two Dragon Balls from her backpack.

Goku was surprised to see the other Dragon Balls and exclaimed, "Wow, so many grandpas!"

Bulma explained again, "I told you, that's not your grandpa. This is the four-star Dragon Ball. Mine is the two-star Dragon Ball, and his is the five-star Dragon Ball. You can count them."

After hearing Bulma's explanation, Goku looked at the Dragon Balls and counted them. Indeed, there were seven stars in total. He said, "So that's how it is!"

Bulma continued her persuasion, "So, this is the Dragon Ball. It's not your grandpa. Give us the Dragon Ball, and we'll collect all seven Dragon Balls and make a wish to the Eternal Dragon."
