Chapter 564 - Chapter 781: Commander of the Elites

As the Champion of Drakoria, you had two ways to live your life.

One was to be busy, the other was to take it easy.

Both were quite straightforward.

Being busy meant handling matters personally—dealing with paperwork and taking care of affairs. Though in most cases, you wouldn't really need to step in yourself, because at the Champion level, there were very few things that actually required your personal involvement.

The other way was to take it easy, which meant not worrying about anything—letting others handle it all. You could do whatever you want, and nobody would interfere, as long as you didn't leave the country and were willing to step up and help when Drakoria needed you.

The Drakorian Elder Council gave Julian the right to choose from several top positions in core departments.

For instance, he could become the Chief Inspector of the Inspection Bureau—the bureau that oversaw all criminal trainers in Drakoria. This department was originally under Duke's control.

However, since Duke already managed several other core departments, they planned to hand this one over to Julian.

Another option was to become the Commander of the Elites—as the name implied, he would be in charge of all one hundred Trainers within the Elite rankings.

This position wielded immense power, and it was a role specially created by Drakoria after Julian became Champion. Previously, there had been no such title.

Originally, Julian had been planning to choose the "take it easy" path. That suited his personality—he could stay holed up at home for half a month without stepping outside, but if you made him work five consecutive days in an office, he would probably accuse you of exploiting him.

He had no interest in becoming Chief Inspector.

But the role of Commander of the Elites piqued his interest. After all, the one hundred Elites under his command would include all those on the official rankings, even his father, Jake.

If Julian accepted this role, he would become the head of the largest military force not only in Drakoria, but arguably the world.

Drakoria had established such an important department, and its first Commander was not the strongest Champion, Duke, nor John or any of the other four Champions—but the newly crowned Champion, Julian.

Logically, Duke was the most suitable candidate for the role—the strongest Champion paired with the strongest military force would be a powerful combination.

Yet, Julian was chosen instead.

The reasons mainly came down to several points:

First, the Drakorian Elder Council recognized Julian's potential—surpassing Duke was only a matter of time.

Second, Julian was very young and needed to be tempered.

Third, the Walker family's loyalty to the nation was unquestionable, so the Council felt assured entrusting such an important department to them.

Fourth, it involved an exchange of political resources.

Julian was indeed a bit tempted by the role of Commander of the Elites. After all, men always had at least a bit of desire for power.

But the thought of having to deal with a pile of tasks every day as Commander made him hesitate—if that were the case, he'd rather not take the position at all.

Later, John explained to Julian that most tasks could be delegated to subordinates.

The six Champions of Drakoria all held high positions and immense authority. If they had to deal with documents or other affairs every day, how would they find time to improve their strength?

So, in most cases, matters were handed down to those below.

Only in extremely rare situations would they need to step in personally.

The main duty of a Champion was actually to keep improving their strength—if they were bogged down by trivial matters and had no time to grow stronger, wouldn't that be shooting oneself in the foot?

Drakoria wasn't foolish enough to let that happen.

When Julian heard this—high position, great authority, and the chance to still take it easy—he didn't hesitate any longer and nodded in agreement.

Thus, Julian became Drakoria's first-ever Commander of the Elites, with one hundred ranked Elites under his command. The top ten among them were all at the peak of Pseudo-Champion level.

Even his own father, Jake, directly became his subordinate.

So, when Jake found out about this, instead of being upset, he thought, 'Now that my son is my boss, won't it be even easier for me to slack off at work without anyone bothering me?'

Which, to be fair, wasn't wrong.

Sitting in the Commander's office, Julian glanced around with mild curiosity, wondering when he would next even bother to come here.

The overall décor was… fairly ordinary, nothing special. To put it nicely, it was simple and functional.

Knock knock.

There was a knock on the door.

"Come in."

A woman walked in, dressed in a black professional suit. Her features were delicate, and her figure was perfectly proportioned—the classic curvy type.

As a man, Julian couldn't help but take an extra glance.

"Commander, I am your secretary, Ella Eastbrook. I will liaise with you on work matters, and you can let me know if you have any requests—such as how you'd like the office arranged."

After speaking, she raised her head and looked at Julian, her eyes filled with curiosity. After all, this was a 22-year-old Champion, and his experiences were the stuff of legend.

And there was also a Celebi perched on his head, it was holding a phone sideways, fingers flying furiously across the screen with an annoyed expression on its face.

'Is it playing a game?'

"Eastbrook… as in the Eastbrook family from the south?"

The surname Eastbrook was rare, and the most well-known was the Eastbrook family from the southern part of the country, which had produced a Champion a century ago.

Although the family had since declined, it was still considered a Champion lineage. Even in decline, it remained one of the ancient aristocratic families.

"Yes, Commander," Ella nodded.

She was the direct descendant of the Eastbrook family and a top graduate from Shu University. While her strength was far from Julian's level, she was already an Elite at the age of 25—definitely an impressive talent.

Not just anyone could become Julian's secretary—to even appear before him meant the Eastbrook family must have paid quite a price.

After all, proximity breeds opportunity. Even if she couldn't become the young mistress of the Walker family, forming a connection with Julian would undoubtedly bring significant benefits.

To secure the role of Julian's secretary, she had outperformed many direct descendants of major families.

"First, replace everything in here," Julian said, pointing to all the decorations in his office. The "simple and functional" style really wasn't to his taste.

"Of course. What kind of style would you prefer, Commander?"

Just then, the Pokéball containing Arcanine began to shake. "I want a doghouse in the office!"

Julian lightly tapped the Pokéball, thinking that this dog's IQ seemed to be dropping by the day—it actually thought he'd agree to such a thing.

Arcanine: "No doghouse? Then I'll redecorate this place myself."

"Put a doghouse in that corner for now, and line it with Fire Stones," Julian instructed.

He couldn't forget how, just before leaving university, Arcanine had torn apart all the furniture in the villa he'd lived in for four years—even the bed and wardrobe on the second floor weren't spared.

So when he moved out, Julian had paid Imperial University a hefty sum for the damages. Champion or not, if your dog destroys property, you should foot the bill.

Now that he was the Commander of the Elites, it would be pretty embarrassing if this guy decided to redecorate the office.

Ella: "A… doghouse?"

Under her disbelieving gaze, Julian nodded awkwardly. "Yes, a doghouse."
