Volume 2 Chapter 74: Destruction
From the heads of the ten Ghidorah's Wings, endless beams of light emerged.
Unlike the light used to intercept nuclear weapons in the atmosphere, these beams were more concentrated and dazzling.
Naturally, this was because this time, the light emitted from their necks was comparable to Godzilla's beam in its normal state.
Now, there were ten such beams.
From several kilometers away, the Ghidorah's Wings hovered in the sky, lowered their necks, opened their jaws, and unleashed their radiant light.
In an instant—less than an instant, in fact—ten beams shot from their mouths to the farthest horizon, striking the burning city below.
Immediately, they swept their beams from left to right, cutting across the scene before them.
Explosions followed.
Buildings were like butter meeting a scorching hot blade in the face of the Ghidorah's Wings' beams. They were severed cleanly, releasing superheated gas and molten material.
Dozens, then hundreds of structures were sliced in half. The upper sections exploded into fragments, scattering across the ground for kilometers around.
Even before these fragments had finished falling, massive explosions erupted across the city, turning swaths of land into blazing infernos.
The beams that struck the earth vaporized soil into thousands of degrees of superheated steam, which erupted into massive fire clouds rising hundreds of meters into the sky.
The areas swept by the beams became epicenters of destruction, their shockwaves reducing all nearby buildings to rubble.
Some structures, already split in two by the beams, were further blasted apart by subsequent explosions, scattering debris and leaving nothing but a smoldering wasteland.
The blazing inferno, fire clouds, and smoking ruins transformed the city into a hellish landscape.
The Ghidorah's Wings descended from the sky to the ruins below, their golden bodies gleaming amid the flames.
Their beams continued their relentless assault, creating walls of fire several kilometers long and hundreds of meters high throughout the city.
Each sweep of their beams obliterated thousands of buildings, leaving behind rivers of molten earth and burning debris.
In mere minutes, the Ghidorah's Wings had turned the already half-destroyed city into a lifeless wasteland of blazing ruins and deep, smoldering trenches.
Gigantic fissures, several meters wide and tens of meters deep, crisscrossed the city.
The Ghidorah's Wings circled above, their golden forms shimmering in the heat and smoke.
They ceased their assault, hovering like vultures over a corpse, as if waiting for something—or perhaps ensuring their work was complete.
At the same time, the other three groups of Ghidorah's Wings reached their destinations.
Unsurprisingly, their targets were also human cities. And, just as before, their mission was destruction.
Skyscrapers hundreds of meters tall were severed at their midpoints, then sliced into seven or eight sections by additional beams before being reduced to rubble in massive explosions.
Lush parks and serene lakes were set ablaze, their waters vaporized into scalding steam that spread for kilometers.
Entire neighborhoods were annihilated in seconds, engulfed in infernos sparked by the relentless beams. The devastation was unrelenting, and within minutes, cities transformed into blazing seas of destruction.
Even well-preserved metropolises could not withstand the assault for more than a few minutes before succumbing to the fires and explosions.
It was clear: these entities came with the singular goal of destroying the world.
Humans, realizing this grim truth, retaliated with nuclear weapons.
From regions where satellites were still operational, dozens—hundreds—of nuclear warheads were launched toward the Ghidorah's Wings, now hundreds of kilometers away.
Although the atmospheric environment reduced the effectiveness of the nuclear strike network compared to space, persistence could gradually wear down the Ghidorah's Wings.
Even if only two or three warheads detonated successfully at a time, with enough persistence, humanity might eventually triumph.
The environmental consequences for East Asia were catastrophic, but survival took precedence over ecological concerns.
Before the Ghidorah's Wings could cause further devastation, they had to be eradicated. Otherwise, humanity would face extinction—or be forced to retreat underground like their ancient ancestors, living in perpetual darkness.
Nuclear warheads launched.
Electromagnetic railguns charged.
The war between humanity and the Ghidorah's Wings on the ground had officially begun.
