Chapter 33 - Wasn't supposed to happen

Derrick

"So?" I asked.

As soon as Kate texted me that her blind date had ended and she was now returning back home, I quickly called her.

"Everything went great." She giggled. "I like him."

"How can you like someone you just met?"

"I don't know. It just happened."

"If you say so. Get home safe." I hung up.

Shit! This wasn't supposed to happen. Kate wasn't supposed to like Kaiden off the bat. That man cannot be trusted. Nor can I. There are selfish reasons behind agreeing to this arranged marriage between our families. Kaiden and I are just using each other, nothing more. So, having Kate falling head over heels for Kaiden, gives him the upper hand and I definitely don't want that.

"This is bad."

"What if Miss Kate seduces him too?" John, my personal assistant suggested.

"Can that even happen?" I asked, skeptical.

"It's worth a try. I mean, miss Kate is beautiful."

I scoffed. "I know Kate's beautiful. But,you and I both know that he's only obsessed about one girl."

"Maybe he's no longer interested." He insisted. "After all, the girl in question is already engaged to someone else now."

I chuckled dryly. "You're being naive."

"Sorry, sir."

"But, you may have a point." John's eyes lit up. "She better succeed in seducing that heartless animal. Everything depends on this marriage arrangement."

"Sure thing. I'll make the arrangements."

I waved my hand, gesturing John to leave my office.

Knock. Knock.

"Come in."

Emma entered my office, carrying my lunch with her. She smiled, approaching me.

"Hey, I brought lunch."

"I can see that." I got up from my chair.

I joined Emma on the couch as she laid out the lunch boxes on the coffee table.

"I made this myself." She said, her eyes twinkling, expecting my compliment.

"Good job." I tasted the pasta. "It tastes great." She smiled.

I enjoyed my lunch while Emma scrolled through her phone. When I was done with my meal, Emma finally spoke up.

"How was the blind date?"

"It went great."

"That's good." She smirked, deep in thought.

"You seem happy."

"No. I-I'm just hoping nothing goes wrong."

I chuckled, shaking my head. Emma's face said it all. She was just happy she won't have to deal with Kate's shenanigans once she leaves and gets married.

Whatever. I just want this marriage to go through smoothly without any hurdles. I could care less about trivial things like the bad blood between Kate and Emma.
