Riley
It was raining heavily outside. The rain wasn't going to stop any time. It had been raining cats and dogs the entire day. As such, residents in country A were advised to refrain from driving their cars in order to prevent unnecessary car accidents.
It was nighttime and still, the rain hadn't stopped. Riley was still stuck at the photoshoot location. She now regretted refusing to hitch an uber ride with the other models.
"It's fine. I'll just drive myself." I said over the phone call.
Xavier sighed. "Just be careful."
"I will. I promise." I hung up.
I don't know why Xavier was worried. I can drive myself just fine even through this heavy rain.
20 minutes into the drive, I abruptly stepped on the brakes. Something had jumped in front of my car, out of nowhere. My hands on the steering wheel were trembling. I was gripped with immerse fear. Did I just ran something or someone over? This cannot be happening. Please God! That shouldn't be the case.
I opened my car door and stepped outside, trying to find what it was that I had just run over. With the help of my car headlights, I spotted something, rather someone. She was lying unconscious with blood trailing on the tarred road getting washed away by the rain. I had actually hit a person. Just great!
I rushed her to the nearest hospital. The nurses rushed the unconscious girl to the operating room for immediate treatment.
"Achoo!" I sneezed. The rain had really drenched me cold.
The nurses helped me with a warm blanket and some warm tea to warm me up. I quickly informed Xavier and my parents about what happened. By the time they got to the hospital, the rain had finally let up.
"Mom!" I called out to her. My Mom approached me alongside Dad and Xavier.
"You okay?" Xavier asked, after hugging me. I nodded in agreement.
"You got us worried. Are you sure you're fine. Not jurt anywhere?" Dad asked.
"I'm fine." I replied.
Just then, a nurse approached us. "We've run out of the blood needed for her transfusion. We need one of you to donate."
"Okay. Uhm, what's the blood group that's needed?" I replied.
"Blood group A."
"I'll donate. After all, that girl's in this state because of me." I said.
"Okay, follow me."
"No. Baby, you can't. You're in no position to do that." Xavier stopped me. "You're still on medication after that surgery. We can't have you getting anymore weak."
"But..."
"No. I won't allow you to risk your health." He remained adamant.
"Okay. In that case, I'll donate my blood to her." Mom volunteered. "I have type A blood."
"No." Dad refused. "I'll do it." He didn't allow Mom to argue back. He followed the nurse to start the blood donation.
After collecting the needed amount of blood group A blood, the nurse returned to the operating room. 30 minutes later, the doctor informed us that the surgery was successful.
A week later.
The girl was now awake. Thankfully, she was recovering nicely. Today was the day we'd stop visiting her at the hospital. Xavier accompanied me. We were now in her hospital room.
"I'm really sorry about what happened." I said. "If anything, I prepared this money to compensate for the trouble I caused you." I gave her the brown envelope and got up from my chair beside the hospital bed. "I hope you get well soon."
"I don't need your money." She spat out, coldly throwing the brown envelope on the floor. "I just want one thing."
"What's that?"
She smirked. "For you to get out of my parents' lives. Your time's up living as the fake daughter of the Sinclair family. As the real daughter, I'm here now, so you have to leave." Her eyes were piercing daggers at me as she said those words.
I was angry. "Hey. Just because I was kind enough to not leave you to die on the road doesn't give you the right to say such nonsense to my face."
"The injury to her head must've been really bad. Don't mind her, baby. Let's go." Xavier came to my side.
"Dammit! They're my parents!" She yelled. "Let's get a DNA test done. The four of us. Or are you scared of the truth?" She challenged me. "Because if you don't agree, I've alerady prepared an article about how you're the fake daughter of the Sinclair family and it will immediately make headlines. Don't try me. Because I'm sure you don't want the paparazzi or anyone to find out about this. It'd ruin your career. So, leave when I'm still being nice."
This girl wasn't bluffing. I know a psychopath when I see one and this girl, I was convinced that she wouldn't hesitate to ruin my career with that fake news.
"Fine. But, I hope you'll never show your face to us ever again after the results come out."
She scoffed. "We'll see." She smirked at me. Her arrogance was getting on my nerves. I'd wipe that smirk off her face. She doesn't know who she's messing with. "By the way, the name is Rhea Sinclair."
I glared at her, before exiting her hospital room with Xavier by my side.
