Chapter 500 - Chapter 500: The Professor's Answer

"Hm? Mr. Finnell!"

Just as Noah quietly slipped into Charles's villa, a woman's voice came from behind him.

"My goodness, it really is you!"

Noah turned around.

"Uh... long time no see, Jean."

It was Jean Grey-the very person he had just been thinking about.

"Indeed, long time no see," Jean said, regaining her composure. "You haven't been here for a long time. Of course, we know you've been very busy."

"Very busy," Noah agreed, smiling as he spread his hands. "Especially recently. I took a trip across the universe. It was... a headache."

He looked her over.

Jean appeared younger than before, though that wasn't what caught his attention. Women caring about their appearance was normal. Ms. Haven looked young as well.

What mattered was her aura.

She was stronger.

Much stronger.

Jean Grey was almost at Tier 8 now.

The Phoenix lived up to her name.

That made Noah even more curious about Charles. Back in 2012, that old man-no, that bald middle-aged man-had already reached Tier 8.

Now?

Noah couldn't help but wonder how far he'd gone.

"You're here to see the Professor, right?" Jean smiled as if she'd guessed his purpose.

She turned and opened a door.

"Come with me. He's watching the latest X-Men dailies."

"The latest?" Noah chuckled. "Which part are you on?"

"The final Wolverine segment," Jean said, tilting her head. "The one where everyone dies. Only Charles and Logan are left."

She paused, then asked, "By the way, why did you choose Logan as the protagonist for three films? And why a parallel timeline?"

"Because that kind of future won't happen here," Noah replied calmly.

"As for Logan... he's more suitable. Protagonists like Charles solve problems too easily. That's boring."

He glanced at her.

"Oh, right. Didn't you already film the past storyline?"

"We did," Jean nodded. "Their younger years. Like you said, if problems are resolved too easily, there's no fun."

That was how movies worked.

An overly powerful protagonist crushed everything without effort. No twists. No tension. Naturally boring.

Reality was different.

In reality, crushing everything was ideal. And if you couldn't crush it, you avoided it.

Noah worked the same way.

If he ever looked for trouble, it would always be within his limits.

Jean led him to Charles's room, then quietly left. She understood that Noah had business with the Professor-things she wasn't meant to be involved in.

This time, though, she'd guessed wrong.

Noah's visit wasn't anything serious.

Inside, Charles sat in front of a computer, staring intently at the screen. Displayed was his aged self from Logan, frail and nearing death.

He seemed lost in thought.

Noah stayed silent.

After a long while, Charles spoke.

"Even though I've said it many times, I still want to say it again. Thank you, Noah."

He paused.

"And you really haven't visited in a long time."

"It's been a while," Noah said, smiling as he walked over. "I've been too busy. Thought I'd drop by during a break."

"A break?" Charles raised an eyebrow. "Why do I feel like you always have something going on?"

"It's nothing major," Noah replied calmly.

"You'll know sooner or later."
