Adam didn't move right away.

Not out of fear or intimidation. He'd been through far worse than this—two opponents weren't enough to make him freeze.

But as a seasoned warrior, it was natural for him to use the brief hesitation of his enemies to think. Raynare was strong; he could tell that much from their earlier exchange—stronger than Dohnaseek, at least. Not enough to make him fear a direct clash, but enough to make him consider his next moves carefully, especially with Freed backing her up. The priest was fast—faster than he looked.

Still, neither of them posed any real threat. An interesting combination, perhaps, but nothing compared to the battles Adam had faced before. This time, there was one thing that changed everything.

Power.

If it had been before, even Raynare might have overwhelmed him easily. But now, Adam was on an entirely different level. Not only was his body far stronger, but he also had access to magic.

He hadn't studied it for long, but his natural aptitude and prior experience made its use in battle feel almost instinctive.

The reason he was still calculating his next steps wasn't mere caution.

He wanted to crush them completely—to win in such a way that no doubts, no what ifs would remain in their minds. Adam wanted them to accept, without question, that no matter what they tried, they would end up on the ground.

A domination so absolute it would shatter their spirits, erasing even the memory of defiance.

That was what he wanted—and that was exactly what he intended to do.

!

Raynare struck first, her light spear shooting toward his head like a bullet. But Adam, having anticipated the attack, sidestepped it with ease.

Freed saw his chance. Lunging forward with both light blades, he swung horizontally, aiming to cleave Adam in two.

Adam didn't panic. He jumped over the slash effortlessly.

"Shit!" Freed hissed, readying himself for another strike, when a precise kick smashed into his nose, jerking his head back with a sharp crack and a spray of blood.

His eyes shut instinctively, and he staggered back, swinging wildly to keep his attacker away.

Adam didn't flinch. His gaze burned with lethal focus as he raised his golden blade and aimed for Freed's skull—an attack meant to split him clean in half.

Shhhk!

To his surprise, just before the blow connected, Raynare appeared between them, blocking his strike with her own spear. The clash of their weapons filled the air with a piercing hiss of energy.

He watched her grit her teeth, struggling to hold her ground. So, even with all her pride, she knows she can't win this fight alone.

A mocking smile curved his lips. Good. That makes it more entertaining.

"...!?" Raynare fought to push his blade away, but froze as he suddenly grabbed her wrist, his golden weapon dissipating into light. What is this? He's leaving himself open on purpose?

Confused but unwilling to waste the chance, she tried to pull free.

Yet her eyes widened in shock when she couldn't move her arm. "Damn you! Let me go!"

She tried to lift her spear, but Adam's grip only tightened. Slowly, he pushed her backward, guiding her hand—and the weapon—toward her own neck.

Why can't I break free?! What kind of strength is this?!

"What's wrong?"

Her body trembled at his voice. Their eyes met, and the cold emptiness in his gaze sent shivers crawling down her spine.

"Not so fun when they can fight back, is it?"

The tip of her spear pressed against her skin, drawing a thin line of blood. Her breath hitched in panic.

"Die!"

Adam raised his eyes just as he heard the shout—Freed descending with both blades ready to strike.

He stepped back, easily dodging the attack, but the moment his feet touched the ground, he noticed the priest's grin stretch unnaturally wide.

Every instinct screamed a warning. His blade flared back to life in his hand.

"Too slow, blondie!"

"Adam!!!" Mittelt's voice rang out.

He turned a fraction too late—Freed had drawn a pistol and fired. A bullet of pure light shot toward him faster than he could possibly evade.

Oh, shit. It was the only thought that crossed his mind before it hit.

Tzzt!

The energy bullet struck his forehead dead center, jerking his head back violently. Raynare and Freed's faces lit up with triumph, while Mittelt's twisted into horror, her wings flaring as she instinctively prepared to rush in.

"...?"

But instead of collapsing, Adam remained standing. His eyes were fixed on the ceiling, unmoving.

"Hm…?" To their disbelief, he let out a curious hum, slowly tilting his head back into place. His fingers brushed his forehead. "I expected… more."

All three froze—Mittelt in relief, the other two in dread.

"I–Impossible! How can you withstand that?!" Raynare shouted.

Adam rubbed the spot thoughtfully. It hadn't even stung. The shot had simply… vanished on contact. The head movement had been reflex, not reaction.

Several theories formed in his mind—and he could test them immediately.

"Even if you asked, I wouldn't really know…" he said, folding his arms. A dangerous smile touched his lips as his gaze locked on Raynare. "But I think I can find out soon."

Raynare stepped back instinctively, her teeth grinding in frustration.

"Damn, that was a badass move," Freed muttered.

"Shut up!" Raynare snapped.

"What? It's true."

She ignored him. Her thoughts raced. Adam was beyond anything she'd anticipated. His power was absurd. How the hell had they never noticed someone like him before?

He had slaughtered hundreds of exorcists armed with light weapons, then overpowered her and Freed right after. That level of strength was insane.

Magic, divine energy, and raw physical power—all greater than hers. Who was he? An angel? Then where were his wings? A mage, maybe? But could a human even wield divine energy like this?

No, not one of them could endure the divine pressure radiating from Adam.

Her grip on her spear tightened. The anger on her face twisted into something darker as she realized he wasn't even seeing her as a rival—just a toy, a training dummy.

It didn't matter who he was. She had to kill him. If brute force wouldn't work, she'd have to be smart about it. One clean strike—that's all she needed.

"Still thinking?" Adam asked, yawning. "I'm starting to get bored here. Move already."

A vein pulsed on Raynare's forehead as Freed grinned beside her.

"If you're so eager to die…" she hissed, summoning a second spear glowing with light. "Then so be it!"

Without hesitation, she hurled both with all her strength.

Adam watched them fly and casually swung his sword, deflecting them midair.

"Hey, don't hog all the fun!" Freed shouted, raising his pistol and firing a storm of light bullets.

Adam smiled faintly as they sped toward him. Looked like he could test his theory sooner than expected.

The two attackers blinked in confusion—he wasn't even trying to block or dodge.

Tzzt! Tzzt! Tzzt! Tzzt!

But to their shock, as the projectiles struck him one after another, Adam didn't flinch. Not a single mark marred his skin or clothes.

"Oh…" The realization dawned on him. Focusing now, he understood what had happened.

The bullets hadn't vanished. They'd been absorbed—completely.

More precisely, his body had consumed the light itself.

Like a creature starved for energy, he devoured the pure radiance as if it were nothing but a snack.

That left only one conclusion.

He was completely immune to light—and most likely, divine energy as well.
