Chapter 186 - Chapter 186 : Target

New One Piece Released Guys Check it Out :- One Piece : Cursed Crew

----------------------------------

Cole stepped out of the tower. The night was bleak and dark. The snow had stopped falling in the afternoon, but now, in the cold gloom, the world felt like an endless deep blue.

The Stormland military camp lay just outside Castle Black, with its wooden towers and stone castles neatly arranged. Battle flags fluttered like shadows in the darkness. The moonlight was faint, and a thick fog covered the entire North. The snow on the camp roads had been cleared and piled to either side.

After the snow began, Cole had returned to his own military camp from the King's Tower.

Walking through the corridor, Cole approached the center of the camp, where Cole's tent was pitched. Candlelight glowed softly from inside.

As Cole drew near, the patrolling knights spotted him. Duran, the knight in charge of the tent's perimeter, was armored and armed, followed by five or six heavily armed infantrymen. Each carried a two-handed battle-axe and a sword at their hip.

The clinking of their chainmail and the black ringmail seemed colder than the ice and snow around them. They were all very tall, easily towering over most of the Night's Watch brothers.

"Cole, His Royal Highness has been waiting in the tent for some time," Duran said, stepping aside.

Cole pushed open the tent flap. It was much warmer inside than out. A charcoal brazier sat in the center, but Cole was by the table, reading a book by candlelight.

"Do you enjoy reading?" Cole asked him.

Cole closed the book. "Books are humanity's greatest invention. We can learn so much from them." He gestured to the chair next to the brazier. "Please, sit down, Lord Commander." The brazier was clearly meant for him.

Cole settled into the sheepskin chair. The smoke from the burning charcoal stung his eyes, making him blink several times. "There are many records about the Night's Watch in the library here. Perhaps you should read them.

They'll be a great help to you as Lord Commander." Cole continued, "Sam has been managing the books there. He often speaks highly of you. Perhaps you'll find more to talk about." Before Sam, it was Cole who had helped Maester Aemon with the library.

"Samwell Tarly," Cole mused. "That's the name I've heard most on the Wall. Grenn told me he killed a White Walker. I wonder if you've seen that monster with your own eyes?"

Cole shook his head. "They say you killed a wight too. What do you think our chances are if we go to war with such monsters?" Cole asked him.

Confusion clouded Cole's eyes; he didn't know.

"We know so little about the White Walkers. We don't know how many there are or what their goal is. But there's no doubt that they are our enemies."

Cole agreed.

"So, what do you want me to do?" Cole asked.

"Do you know how many wildlings there are beyond the Wall?" Cole countered.

"Ten thousand, a hundred thousand... no one has counted them. But Mance Rayder claimed tens of thousands." He had only counted their giants and mammoths.

"The White Walkers can bring the dead back to life. The more dead bodies there are, the more wights they have. If there are 100,000 wildlings north of the Wall, then the enemy could have 100,000 wights. Do you think you can stop 100,000 wights with this Wall and the current Night's Watch, Cole?"

Though Cole's alarming words were somewhat exaggerated, Cole understood his meaning. Their true enemies were not the wildlings, but those mysterious undead.

"No matter what, the duty of the Night's Watch is to defend the Wall," Cole told him.

"The Long Night is coming, Cole," Cole's expression was solemn. "If you think this is only the Night's Watch's concern, you are wrong. This is a disaster for all of humankind. If the White Walkers break through the Wall, what else in the south can stop them? Winterfell? King's Landing?"

"But who will come to support the Wall except my father and you?" Cole couldn't help but ask.

Cole nodded inwardly. You finally see the point, Cole.

"Yes, after Robert Baratheon's death, the South has been in constant war. Compared to the fate of humankind, the lords of the South are more concerned with the power in their hands."

"The Night's Watch will not interfere in anything in the Seven Kingdoms." He vaguely guessed what Cole wanted him to do.

"Do you know why I came all the way to the Wall, Cole? The Stormlands need me far more than here. I could have sent a trusted knight to support the Night's Watch, but I still came." Cole said.

"Besides the Starks in Winterfell, you actually have other living relatives," Cole told him. "Your father, Rhaegar Targaryen, and his sister, Daenerys Targaryen, are preparing for war in the Free Cities across the Narrow Sea, ready to reclaim the Targaryen throne at any moment."

Cole frowned, and after a moment of silence, he asked, "Why are you telling me this? What do you want?"

"Look at my hair." Cole pointed to his silver hair. "That is all I can tell you for now."

Cole looked at the other Cole's silver hair and fell into deep thought.

Taking a bundle of scrolls from the table, Cole untied the knot and spread them out. "This is a map of Westeros. As Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, your vision cannot be limited to the small strip of land that is the Wall, Cole. Although the duties of the Night's Watch are separate from the Seven Kingdoms, as long as you live on this continent, it's impossible to cut off your connection with the kingdom."

Cole stood up and walked to the table.

Cole pointed to a small island marked "Dragonstone." "This is where the Targaryen family first landed on the continent of Westeros, Dragonstone. Now it is occupied by the Golden Company." He pointed to another spot, a bay. "This is Crab Bay, where the fleets from Lannister Port and King's Landing are docked. There is a war in this sea area, and the purpose of my trip north this time is to end this war."

"End?"

"Yes," Cole nodded. "Only when the war in the south is over can the Seven Kingdoms look to the North."

"The Golden Company is fighting for Daenerys, and I will fight for the Targaryen family." He continued, "Crab Bay gathers all the Lannister fleets, and this is the main force that prevents Daenerys and her husband Khal Drogo's army from landing in Westeros."

"You want to..."

"Yes, my target is this fleet: to capture them or destroy them." This was the precise purpose of his journey north this time. "So, I hope to form an alliance with the North, and this requires your help, Cole."

It would be difficult to accomplish with his current ships and manpower, so the Starks must help. If he were speaking to Eddard Stark, he wouldn't have said so much, nor would he have expressed his support for the Targaryen claim.

He would only have needed to explain that he was going to deal with their common enemy, the Lannisters. He believed that with his help to the Lord of Winterfell, an alliance would be easy to achieve.

Unfortunately, it did not go as planned.
