Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Good for you; said Madison to Lena while she jokingly rolled her eyes at her.

Alright I know, just stop there and let's focus on what we have today. Madison nodded at her knowingly while turning to focus on her tasks. The two friends always tried as much as possible to put their little talks aside while in class which has helped them to some extent.

It was almost time for the first lesson which was mathematics so she took out her notebook which she had earlier placed under her desk.

Madie had just taken out her pencil case when she spotted their headmistress, Mrs Jones entering the class from the corner of her eyes.

Madison, together with her mates stood up to greet her. It was then that she realized Mrs. Jones was not alone. Following Mrs. Jones was a handsome young man with intricate features and Maddie's jaw dropped upon sighting him. Mr. Jason? What's he doing here; thought Maddie to herself. She knew the young man since he had tutored her for a few months when she was in her junior high year, just before she took the entrance exams for high school but Mr. Jason did that for a little over a month and left their school. Some said he went to further his education at abroad and it could be true since Mr. Jones was extremely young at the time and he still is. He might only be a few years older than her but as to why she's still a student and why he is here again, possibly to be a tutor, she really can't tell. Maybe, probably due to his high intelligence level or possibly he started school earlier than most people. Well, she really could not figure it out. Let's leave it for another day. Although she was happy to see him here after some years now, she felt scared with a twinge of sadness. She was shocked and excited at the same time. She didn't know if her excitement stemmed from happiness or any other thing. She was suddenly engulfed in a series of emotions and couldn't pin point the exact reason for the change or maybe, she knew but she just didn't want to admit to it.

She quickly composed herself as she heard Mrs. Jones continue to speak after returning their greetings. Have your seats; said Mrs. Jones. I believe everyone is fine, she asked again which the class returned with a chorus YES. Mrs. Jones climbed the podium with the young man following closely behind her, not too close from her. She then continued to speak; Unfortunately and fortunately for us we have some good and bad news. She then proceeded to speak without waiting for the students to ask or say anything. Your mathematics tutor, Mrs. Theodore had requested a transfer and has been referred to a different school in another city, meaning she wouldn't be able to take you through the course.

She stopped for some time to allow the students digest the news. She could have continued with her message but she knew how the students liked and appreciated Mrs. Theodore's teaching and changing her in the middle of a semester could be quite a challenge and tiring to most students, not to the extent of affecting them academically since this class was one of their best. Still, she knew as the headmistress, she sometimes have to give them space and platform to express their views and that's what she just did.

Just as she expected, the class recovered after a short period of time. Although they were unhappy, they knew the stakes at hand so they wouldn't worry about some milk that's already spilled. They still had their own life ahead.

Mrs. Jones nodded at their reaction, pleased that her students are being nutured well and on the right track. She then proceeded with her message; I have with me here, Mr. Jason and he's going to be your new mathematics tutor. She said and the students gave an applause as a form of welcome to him. Mr. Jason nodded at them in response. Since you have mathematics this morning, I'll leave you with him. Mrs. Jones said and nodded at Mr. Jason. After, which she left the class.

Mr. Jason turned to face the class again. Hi, good day. I'm Jason Taylor. Jace for short and I'm going to be your new mathematics tutor as Mrs. Jones said earlier. Jason introduced himself again to the students. I'll get to know all of you as the class progresses and in our subsequent classes. For now, let's get on with the lesson as it's almost start lesson. Are you yet to start a new lesson or you're an old one. He asked the class. We are supposed to starting a new one today, said the class rep, Henry.

Okay then, that's great. I have already been given the list of undone topics so I'll choose one which is suitable and we'll procede from there; said Jason as he turned from the class rep and addressed the class.
