Elijah smiled as he watched her walk away, partly relieved she was beginning to recognize her worth. Love was a weakness, no matter how sweet, it rarely ended well. If he didn't help her move on, she might end up heartbroken, or worse, dead because of him.

"How's it going?" The little girl from earlier strolled in and found Lilith shoveling horse manure.
Lilith scoffed. "Well, what should I say? Great? Since this was the only work you could offer me, I am absolutely thrilled," she replied sarcastically, digging the shovel deeper into the pile and dumping it into a bucket. She had hoped to wash plates only to be brought back outside to pack shit instead.
Only now did she realize that washing endless loads of clothes wasn't so bad after all, at least they didn't reek this horribly. She had done all kinds of dirty jobs in the past, but this one ranked high, just below cleaning up after a dying old woman.
