With the sudden arrival of Marshal Kong, Sengoku the Buddha, Admiral of the Marines, and Vice Admiral Garp, the previously panicked Marine soldiers quickly regained their composure. Shouts of relief echoed through Marineford as the three titans of justice appeared, standing tall against the infamous Golden Lion. Shiki was undoubtedly a monstrous pirate—one of the only men to rival Gol D. Roger in the previous era—but facing him now were three legends of Marine Headquarters: Kong, the former Fleet Admiral and powerhouse of the old guard; Sengoku, the strategist and Hito Hito no Mi: Daibutsu user; and Garp, the Marine Hero who once cornered both Roger and Rocks. To the Marines, with these three on their side, even someone as fearsome as Shiki seemed beatable.
Sengoku's brow twitched slightly as he looked up at the pirate floating mid-air. He had expected the attack on Marineford to be a coalition of the New World's most dangerous pirates—perhaps Whitebeard, Big Mom, or even remnants of the Rocks Pirates. But instead, it was just Shiki. Formidable as he was—being the first known escapee from Impel Down and wielder of the Fuwa Fuwa no Mi—Sengoku regarded this as a miscalculation. He and Garp had undergone countless life-and-death battles together, even subduing Rocks D. Xebec during the legendary God Valley Incident. Their strength, honed by decades of combat and training at Mary Geoise, surpassed even that of some of the Celestial Dragons' protectors. Sengoku believed that even the Five Elders would not dare confront the two of them together. With Kong added into the mix, he didn't consider Shiki a real threat at all.
Golden Lion Shiki exhaled a long plume of smoke, gazing down with scorn at the gathering Marines. "How the hell did you bastards capture Roger?! He was a man I respected!" Sengoku, dressed in his formal black uniform with a Justice cloak draped across his shoulders, stepped to the forefront, his expression unreadable. "Believe it or not, Pirate King Gol D. Roger will be publicly executed in a few days."
"If he's to die—it should be by my hands! Not you damned dogs of the Celestial Dragons!" Shiki roared, fists clenched in fury. Though their ideologies clashed and they had even fought fiercely during their prime, Shiki had never doubted Roger's strength. To him, the Pirate King was a worthy rival—perhaps the only man truly deserving of the title. The thought of Roger being executed by the World Government was an insult. A man like Roger should have fallen in glorious battle, not in chains.
"The execution is set to take place in Loguetown—his birthplace, in East Blue," Sengoku said coldly. "If you truly want to attend, we'd welcome you… as a prisoner. But I doubt you'll get the chance. You'll be buried right here today."
Shiki's fury boiled. Despite the overwhelming danger, the thought of fleeing never crossed his mind. Golden Lion Shiki would rather die fighting than watch his rival paraded and killed by the very system they both opposed. "Roger's death might break the spirits of weaker pirates," Garp said, stepping beside Sengoku, "but it will also mark the moment the Marines reclaim dominance over the New World." For too long, the Marines had allowed the New World to operate like a lawless frontier, but the execution of Roger would serve as a message: the age of pirates was over.
"To execute the Pirate King in East Blue… you're mocking the legacy of the One Piece! You damn dogs!!" Shiki's words rang with raw conviction. Though they had been rivals, Roger embodied the pinnacle of the pirate spirit. His death shouldn't be reduced to a spectacle; to Shiki and countless others, this was personal.
Kong's deep, rumbling voice cut through the tension as he stepped forward. "Shiki, you barged into Marineford knowing full well what we intended for Roger. Then we'll execute you alongside him. Let the world see the fall of the old age." Executing two legends—Roger and Shiki—at once would not only crush the morale of New World pirates but also send a shockwave across the seas. For Marine propaganda, it was perfect.
"Then try it, if you bastards think you can!!" Shiki surged into the air, blades drawn, his two sabers coated in Armament Haki and blazing with Conqueror's Haki lightning that split the clouds above. Sengoku grimly removed his Justice cloak and adjusted his tie. "This will be your biggest mistake, Shiki. It's been a while since I've fought someone worth using my full power on… aside from the Gorosei." Garp cracked his knuckles with a cocky grin. "Let's go. We'll finish this quick. I've got senbei waiting at home."
"Don't let Shiki destroy too much of Marineford!" Kong barked. "Take him down with minimal losses!" Though victory seemed certain, they knew Shiki's desperation would make him dangerously destructive. "All units—engage!!!" The three titans surged forward, their killing intent shaking the very foundations of Marineford.
But before the clash erupted, a thunderous roar echoed from above. "Bolo Breath!!!" A scorching torrent of flame and force descended from the sky, tearing through the clouds and interrupting the momentum of the Marine trio. Kong, Garp, and Sengoku instantly leapt back, dodging the searing beam. From the heavens, a massive shadow unfurled through the storm clouds, thunder cracking around it as a titanic Eastern-style dragon descended.
"That's… that's Kaido! Captain of the Beasts Pirates—Kaido of the Beasts! Four billion bounty… the strongest creature alive!" Gasps spread through the ranks as realization set in: Shiki wasn't alone. Panic flickered among the soldiers. "Dammit! So Kaido came too! I knew it was strange that Shiki dared to attack Marineford alone! Those two declared their alliance in the New World just months ago! We should've anticipated this!"
Despite the shock, the Marine soldiers held their ground. Their side still had three of the most powerful figures in the history of the Marines. Even with Kaido joining, they weren't outnumbered. They were determined. Even if it cost them their lives—they would not let Marineford fall.
