Chapter 260 - chapter 60

Hamar and the miasma soldier butler steeped through the teleportation portal and dropped into a blank waiting room.

"Where is this?" Hamar turned around to observed where he fell, he tried to see the other side of the teleportation ring but could only see a vast expanse of white void.

The miasma butler, too, turned his body observing the space they occupied. He stopped for a moment and closed his 'eyes' before answering, "I don't know. I have searched my database and used intuitive investigative techniques but this space remains elusive to me."

As Hamar started to summon his sword, raring to break through with force he stopped. A voice spoke from the endless void.

It's voice was monotone and uncanny, it didn't feel human nor organic at all, "Code 03-76; Unknown energy detected. Esteemed guest [Elder Nine Clouds Purple Miasma - Core Disciple 2], please identify yourself and any accompanying figures."

Hamar looked up, trying to triangulate the voice as he spoke slowly, "Core Disciple, name...Hamar." he stopped summoning his sword and relaxed, "With conjured spirit of Elder Nine Clouds Purple Miasma."

The inorganic voice whirred before it clicked, "Unknown Energy dispersed, please do not use power without prior permission. May you have a good time in Future City!"

Hamar scrunched his nose a little at the voice, it didn't sound right. It was his intuition that told him that this wasn't something to respect.

"Then can we leave?"

"Do not panic [Hamar]. You will be sent into Future City in a random undisclosed alleyway. You will be handed a random identity and disguise. If there is any more questions, ask away!"

Hamar scratched his head, "Well, where do I go to get to the best fighting arena?"

"To enter the fighting district you will have to enter the subway and leave for "The Arena". You will be transported to the arena which is not affected by the enchantment and all memories will stay intact!"

"That...good to know I guess. But what's a subw-" as Hamar asked another question he felt his stomach drop.

His vision swirled and he flinched. He opened his eyes only to see that the white void had disappeared and in its place he was facing wet pavement.

He felt a huge headache and touched his head. Where he would expect skin or hair, he instead felt metal. His head flashed with pain and as he stumbled to his feet, he looked up.

In between himself we're massive stone walls and at the end of the alley, bright neon lights. They reminded Hamar of the fireworks he had seen before but instead of quickly flashes they were constant humming lights.

He shook his head and wiped his Forehead from a blue substance. "What is-"

"WELCOME! HOST YOU HAVE COME BACK TO LIFE! THIS IS...UNUSUAL. DO YOU WISH TO REPORT THIS TO HAPPI INC.?"

Hamar squeezed his hand a few times, "No, what? Uh, no."

He covered his eyes from the harsh lights and turned around. To subside, he saw another figure on the floor beside him.

He wore a leather jacket and had an unusual haircut with a bright vivid purple colour. Hamar shook him awake, and noticed the man's left arm was metallic and shined with whirring lights.

Hamar felt a strange sense of familiarity, "Miasma butler?"

The person awoke and stumbled upwards, staggering into the walls a few times. "Yes Master, it is I. Wher- Agh!"

Hamar held out his hands and propped the 'miasma butler' up, "What is it?"

The butler looked around a few moments, "I heard a voice inside my head, it spoke to me."

Hamar nodded, "I heard one too...Happi Inc.?"

He shook his head, "No, they said it was a Free-Co...microchip?"

Hamar nodded and looked behind his shoulder, "It seems this 'Future city' is much different than we thought...that must be a part of the reason there's an enchantment to forget about it."

As Hamar tried to stabilise himself he thought for a moment before he murdered out a request, "Map."

The butler turned his head, "Map sir?"

"N-no not you. Uhm [Map]" when Hamar intentionally spoke 'Map' in a certain way, something appeared within his vision.

He saw winding streets and unknown languages. "Uhm...[Soobway]?"

He saw a ring spin within his vision until it transformed into a '?' and spoke into Hamar's mind, "Did user mean to say [Subway]?"

"Yes! That!"

He heard a quiet beep and the map reappeared, this time multiple points were highlighted in red. He studied the map for a moment while looking around and came up with a conclusion.

"Butler, try saying [Map], then say, [Subway]. You should be given a map with our destination highlighted?"

The butler nodded and tried out his own 'microchip' and nodded. He looked around a few moments, "Indeed. It appears quite far away."

Hamar nodded, "uh...[Close]" the interface covering his vision vanished and he let out a sigh of relief. He sat down onto he slightly wet floor.

He crossed his legs and tried to feel his aura. He breathed in and ignoring the smell, he could feel mana entering his body.

In fact, he could feel more mana entering his body than before, 'I might not even need that arena...'. he tried to circulate his aura but when he tried, the aura felt like it was stuck.

It couldn't move from a central reservoir in his stomach. He bot his lip for a moment until he thought of a different thing to attempt.

Instead of using aura he had, he attempted to take in mana and make aura on the fly. His whole goal was to gain as much aura as he could in a short time frame, this place had a high concentration of mana; it was perfect.

He breathed in and mana entered his body. But instead of turning into aura it was sucked into something. The mana was sucked into two places, his head and right foot.

Hamar felt his head, and the mana was sucked into he place with the metal he felt earlier. He paused for a moment before muttering, "[Identify yourself]?" He tried commanding the 'microchip'.

"Model Number: 00849-3479-73. Happi Inc. Integrated Mind Interface Microchip."

He nodded and looked towards his foot, "[Identify]...[foot]?"

"I'm sorry, I'm not quite sure what you want? If there are any more cybernetics that are not part of the Happi ecosystem, I'm afraid I cannot communicate. If this is an issue, please contact support."

Hamar rubbed the bridge of his nose in exhaustion it would take some time to get familiar with this new world. And he would first need to find out whether he can cultivate his mana despite the cybernetics consuming his mana...
