Chapter 18 - Like a dream

"I said who goes there?"

A pair of red glowing eyes locked with his, and his men far off, watching, started hearing him cough, as he dropped his sword, and fell off his horse, choking on something unknown.

They drew their swords, ready to charge, but they saw their captain's hand raised for them not to come any closer. They stayed where they were, ready to move there was any sign of attack, though their horses weren't totally calm just yet.

The dark figure approached their captain who was holding his neck gasping for air. When the figure came into view,

"Y-your majesty?" the captain barely said, but he gave no attention to his state as he walked right passed him. The captain watched in despair his master abandoned him, yet the beastly horse stopped right behind him. It examined him as it towered over him while he continued to choke for no reason.

He decided to crawl back to his men for help, when he noticed his master's horse walk closer to him from behind with keen interest. Out of curiosity, he managed to halt in his movements and see exactly what it was, it was doing and as he did, he was unexpectedly welcomed by a deep bite into his neck, and a huge chunk munched out, and ravaged upon by Levi's horse.

The soldiers were thrown off balance at the scream of their captain, as their eyes beheld his body being mercilessly devoured by the silhouette of a horse. The captain's horse had run back to the group in fear for safety. Fear suddenly took over the atmosphere. No one told the men to clear the way for the unknown coming figure. Fortunately, one of the soldiers noticed in time that the ghostly incoming figure was the prince; Prince Levi, and like mad men, before he got to their forefront, the news spread, and they all jumped off their horses, holding tight their reigns as they bowed their heads in respect, secretly out of terror. Their gesture drew Levi's attention from his rage, and his eyes looked mellowed down a bit to something that looked merciful. Some of the men took peeks and stole a glance of his glowing eyes.

After the captain's disrespect, Levi was no longer interested whether the ordinary ones knew of his true demon self or not. Looking down at them, he decided to spare their lives, not out of mercy but out of pity. He looked to his side, closing his eyes as he summoned his beastly horse with his mind. It roared into the sky with its body transforming back into its beastly form, before trudging towards its master.

He stroked the ugly pet, before swiftly getting onto her.

"Speak of all you have seen tonight to no one. And clear out the consequence behind me."

None of the men dared to say a word, after hearing him speak. They shivered wondering if truly their captain was dead. The thought of that happening to them didn't scare them, but that his circumstance could befall not just them but their families too, if they uttered a word. Their heads were still down for moments, until they all braved up to look up and around, only for them to notice that the prince and his beast were gone. Their heartbeats accelerated like a woodpecker pecking the bark of a tree.

While they all slowly began to panic like shepherds without a sheep, one of the soldiers head front looked yonder at the body of their captain, lying on the ground in the dark of the night. And his mind still asked the questions if truly he was dead, or all this was still some kind of dream, because it didn't seem real to him.
