Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Your Cowardice Just Now Made Me Ashamed

"Boss, calm down. Don't stoop to the level of a little bra."

The entrenching tool chuckled.

Han Feng let out a slow breath, easing himself onto the carpet and closing his eyes to rest.

Though he had only been in this world for half a day, it had been an exhausting ordeal. His body felt completely drained.

Barely a moment after lying down, he drifted into a deep sleep.

At that moment, a dark cloud silently drifted across the sky, casting a massive shadow that gradually obscured the moonlight.

As the moon disappeared, the entire area around the shelter was plunged into darkness.

It was pitch black, as if the world had been soaked in ink, making it impossible to see even a hand in front of one's face.

With no moonlight to illuminate the surroundings, everything blurred into indistinct silhouettes.

Silence engulfed the area. There was no wind, no sound of insects—nothing. Even the air seemed frozen in time.

In that eerie stillness, time felt suspended, leaving an inexplicable sense of oppression.

A chilling atmosphere spread across the land, as if countless unseen eyes were watching from the shadows.

Time crept forward, and before anyone realized it, midnight had arrived.

The dark clouds above the shelter had quietly drifted away, revealing the moon once more.

Soft moonlight bathed the shelter, creating a peaceful, tranquil scene.

But suddenly, two eerie glows flickered in the darkness outside, shifting like ghostly flames.

A closer look revealed they weren't flames at all.

They were eyes.

A wolf's eyes.

From the shadows, the beast gazed silently at the shelter, as if contemplating something.

Its eyes gleamed with an eerie green light, burning like flames yet radiating an unforgiving, primal coldness.

They seemed to pierce through the darkness, seeing everything.

Inside the shelter, the wooden fence—until now, fast asleep—suddenly felt a wave of intense danger.

When it spotted the beast—a massive black-furred wolf, baring its fangs menacingly—it nearly wet itself.

It immediately shouted toward the thatched hut, "Boss! This is bad! There's a wolf outside!"

"A real wolf?!"

The hut jolted in surprise, shouting loudly, "Han Feng! Get up! There's a wolf!"

"Huh?"

Han Feng groggily sat up, still half-asleep.

"Boss! The fence says there's a wolf outside!"

The entrenching tool trembled as it spoke.

"A wolf?!"

Han Feng was instantly wide awake, his spine tingling with an icy chill.

Hesitating only for a moment, he slowly got up, carefully approaching the window.

Pressing himself against the edge, he peered outside.

Under the moonlight, a massive black wolf—about two and a half meters long—came into view.

The beast was terrifying. Its fur glistened with an unnatural sheen, reflecting the pale moonlight in a ghostly glow.

Its mouth twisted into a snarl, revealing razor-sharp fangs that gleamed with a bone-chilling light.

But its eyes...

Those ghostly eyes radiated an eerie, unsettling glow, sending a shiver down Han Feng's spine.

Just one glance, and his scalp tingled. A strong sense of unease surged within him.

A wolf this massive was far beyond anything he could handle alone!

If it broke into the shelter, how would they survive?

Han Feng took a deep breath, forcing himself to remain calm.

If he couldn't figure out a way to deal with this wolf, the consequences would be catastrophic.

But what could he do?

Screech!

A sharp, grating sound tore through the silence.

Han Feng's eyes widened as he saw the black wolf extending a claw, raking it viciously against the wooden fence.

A long, deep scratch appeared.

"AAAH!"

The fence screamed in agony.

"Boss! That thing's gonna break through!"

The entrenching tool panicked.

"I don't know!"

Han Feng gritted his teeth, gripping a frying pan in his left hand and the entrenching tool in his right, preparing for a fight.

If the wolf really broke in, there was no choice but to go all out!

"Boss! Help me! That wolf is tearing me apart!"

The fence shrieked desperately.

In just a short time, the wolf had already scratched several deep marks into it.

At this rate, it wouldn't just be damaged—it would be torn to pieces!

Hearing this, Han Feng's eyes sharpened with determination. A fierce energy surged within him.

"Fence, hold the line! Stand your ground!" he commanded.

"..."

The fence was speechless.

Han Feng wasn't going to help?!

He expected it to hold the line?!

What the hell?!

At that moment, the fence felt utterly abandoned, as if the whole world had given up on it.

It sank into deep despair, resigned to being ripped apart by the wolf.

But unexpectedly, the black wolf didn't continue its attack.

After leaving a few deep scratches, it suddenly turned away.

Within moments, it vanished into the pitch-black night.

"The wolf... left?"

Han Feng was in disbelief, staring blankly for a second.

He turned to the fence, "Fence, are you okay?"

The fence huffed angrily, "Your cowardice just now made me ashamed! Don't talk to me!"

Han Feng gave an apologetic smile. "I had no choice! If I were strong enough, I would've helped you!"

The fence let out a cold laugh. "So abandoning your teammates is justified now?"

Han Feng: "..."

"Han Feng, you were way too spineless just now!"

The thatched hut spoke with disdain.

"As the leader of our shelter, can't you show a little more courage?"

Han Feng's face darkened. "You got something to say? Why don't you step up then?!"

The hut: "..."

"Boss, the hut may be blunt, but it's got a point. You should let it go," the frying pan chimed in.

"If you don't know how to talk, then just shut up!"

Han Feng shot the frying pan a sharp glare.

The frying pan trembled violently, instantly falling silent.

Han Feng exhaled heavily, sitting back down on the straw mat, his eyes narrowing in deep thought.

Where had this massive black wolf come from?

When he explored the island earlier that day, he hadn't seen any wolves.

Not even a single cave.

Did it appear out of nowhere?

Would it return?

This time, it didn't attack the shelter. But next time, they might not be so lucky.

The only way to eliminate the threat was to kill that black wolf.

That meant getting stronger.

If he could level up to Rank 2 or 3 and find a decent weapon, he might just stand a chance.

A ruthless glint flashed in Han Feng's eyes.
