Everyone present was taken aback; they hadn't expected anyone else to be nearby. Rukia Kuchiki, in particular, showed clear relief and surprise. She recognized the voice.
"Captain Yusuke!" Rukia Kuchiki exclaimed, her voice filled with relief and hope.
As the figure drew closer, the dim light revealed the newcomer's identity: Captain Uchiha Yusuke of the Third Division. He had arrived just in time.
"It's him!" Ichigo Kurosaki recognized Yusuke as the individual who had saved his life before. He was grateful.
However, Tōsen Kaname showed no intention of granting Yusuke any leeway. With the Kidō spell fully charged, a crimson beam of spiritual energy, like a laser, shot towards Ichigo Kurosaki. The attack was swift.

Rukia Kuchiki cried out in alarm, her voice filled with terror. From her perspective, at such close range, no one could possibly intercept the spell. She thought it was too late.
Yet, in the blink of an eye, Yusuke, who had been at the end of the street, appeared before them, his left hand intercepting Tōsen Kaname's crimson energy beam, completely blocking the spell. His speed was incredible.
The Kidō, capable of nullifying a lower-level Shinigami's spiritual power, merely produced a puff of smoke upon impact with Yusuke's hand, having no effect whatsoever. Yusuke's power was immense.
Yusuke's speed astonished not only Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki but also Tōsen Kaname, a captain-level Shinigami. He was both surprised and annoyed.
"Captain Uchiha, are you intending to shield a Soul Society criminal?" Tōsen Kaname demanded coldly, his tone laced with accusation.
Yusuke smiled. "Oh? I'm usually stationed in the Human World; I'm unaware of their crimes. Perhaps Captain Tōsen could enlighten me." He was feigning ignorance.
Tōsen Kaname coldly recounted Rukia Kuchiki's unauthorized awakening of Ichigo Kurosaki's Shinigami powers and Soul Society's planned course of action. He was explaining the situation.
Yusuke already knew all this but played along. He was buying time.
Yusuke chuckled. "Such a minor incident, and Soul Society makes such a fuss. Truly unexpected. However, this boy seems to have been assisting Rukia Kuchiki in purification duties. To strip him of his powers because of Rukia Kuchiki seems rather… ungrateful." He was subtly criticizing Soul Society's actions.
Tōsen Kaname said sternly, "This is a joint decision of the Central 46 and the Gotei 13. Does Captain Uchiha have an objection?" He was challenging Yusuke.
Yusuke adjusted his glasses. "I'll need to confirm the veracity of Captain Tōsen's statement upon my return to the Seireitei for my official report." He was delaying any decision.
Ichigo Kurosaki possessed not only Vizard White but also the powers of a Shinigami, Hollow, and Quincy. To Yusuke, Ichigo Kurosaki was a valuable test subject, providing a clear direction for his future research, and his spiritual power absolutely could not be extinguished. He was a key element in Yusuke's plans.
In the original story, Ichigo Kurosaki's Zanpakutō was merely broken by Byakuya Kuchiki; his inherent spiritual power remained unaffected.
Tōsen Kaname, however, was attempting to erase Ichigo Kurosaki's spiritual power using Kidō. Even if unsure of its effectiveness, Yusuke wouldn't risk it. He needed to protect Ichigo Kurosaki.
Seeing Yusuke's unwavering determination to protect Ichigo Kurosaki, Tōsen Kaname placed his hand on his Zanpakutō.
"There are rumors within the Gotei 13 that Captain Uchiha might be the strongest captain besides the Captain-Commander. Let me verify that rumor," Tōsen Kaname said coldly, his voice laced with challenge. He was eager for a fight.
As a former subordinate of Aizen, Tōsen Kaname harbored a natural animosity towards Yusuke. Since Yusuke was obstructing his actions, he welcomed this opportunity to confront him. He wanted to prove his strength.
His Zanpakutō flashed from its scabbard, Tōsen Kaname's icy voice echoing. "Bankai: Suzumushi Tsuishiki: Enma Kōrogi!"
Tōsen Kaname unleashed his Bankai, an oval-shaped black barrier suddenly encompassing them all. It was a powerful and unexpected attack.
Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki were plunged into darkness, losing all sight.
Even more terrifying, their hearing, sense of smell, and spiritual pressure perception vanished, leaving them in a state of sensory deprivation. They were completely helpless.
Tōsen Kaname feared Yusuke's strength; he knew he likely wouldn't win in a direct confrontation.
However, his Bankai was a rare, highly effective control-type ability, giving him confidence against any opponent. He was confident of victory.
Once trapped within his Enma Kōrogi, all opponents were at his mercy. No matter how strong Yusuke's spiritual pressure, he would be a defenseless target.
"Uchiha Yusuke, I know your spiritual pressure is immense. But within my Bankai, you'll lose all senses except touch. How will you fight me?"
Tōsen Kaname's voice echoed in their minds, seemingly emanating from all directions, making it impossible to pinpoint his location. He had the advantage.
Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki, aware of Tōsen Kaname's ability, were shocked. They hadn't expected such a bizarre Zanpakutō ability. It was a truly unconventional technique.
They worried about Yusuke, unsure if he could counter this Bankai.
As Tōsen Kaname had stated, his ability was indeed rare and powerful, but Yusuke's spiritual pressure was sufficient to shatter his Enma Kōrogi. However, such a release of spiritual pressure would be excessive against a captain like Tōsen Kaname. It was overkill.
Seeing Yusuke standing motionless in the darkness, Tōsen Kaname, confident of victory, raised his Zanpakutō, aiming for Yusuke's back.
