Rotom is a truly unique Pokémon with an extraordinary characteristic—it can merge with various household appliances and transform into different forms, changing its typing accordingly.
The known forms of Rotom include Heat Rotom (Electric/Fire type), Wash Rotom (Electric/Water type), Frost Rotom (Electric/Ice type), Fan Rotom (Electric/Flying type), and Mow Rotom (Electric/Grass type).
Among these various forms, Wash Rotom and Heat Rotom are the most commonly utilized in competitive battles. Trainers often refer to them casually as the "Washing Machine" and "Fire Machine" forms respectively.
The reason for their popularity lies in their superior type combinations compared to the other forms.
Wash Rotom's Electric/Water typing gives it only two weaknesses: Ground-type and Grass-type moves. However, thanks to Rotom's Levitate ability, which grants complete immunity to Ground-type attacks, Wash Rotom effectively has only a single weakness—Grass-type moves. This makes it exceptionally durable in battle.
Heat Rotom's Electric/Fire typing presents three weaknesses: a devastating four-times weakness to Ground-type moves, along with standard two-times weaknesses to Rock-type and Water-type attacks. Yet once again, the Levitate ability eliminates that dangerous Ground-type vulnerability entirely, leaving Heat Rotom with only Water and Rock as exploitable weaknesses.
Beyond these two popular forms, the usage rates of the remaining Rotom variations are significantly lower. Fan Rotom, in particular, sees almost no competitive use whatsoever.
The problem with Fan Rotom is obvious to any experienced trainer—its Flying typing provides the same Ground immunity that the Levitate ability already grants. This redundancy essentially wastes one of the Pokémon's most valuable assets, making its usage rate naturally abysmal.
Beyond transforming through appliance possession, Rotom can also integrate with various small electronic devices. The Rotom Pokédex, Rotom Phone, Rotomi, Rotom Drone, and Rotom Bike are all examples of forms Rotom can assume after infiltrating a Pokédex, mobile phone, computer system, drone, or bicycle motor respectively.
Jacob's decision to choose Rotom without any hesitation stemmed from multiple factors. This Pokémon wasn't merely effective in competitive battles—its utility in daily life and research applications was absolutely unmatched by any other species in existence.
The other students browsing the Incubation Room hadn't expected Jacob to make his selection so quickly. Several heads turned to look in his direction.
A Rotom Egg. Interesting choice.
"Jacob already chose a Rotom Egg," one student whispered to another.
"We should hurry up and pick ours too," someone else urged nervously.
"I really want a Pikachu," a girl said wistfully. "Pikachu are just so adorable."
After Jacob finished selecting the Rotom Egg, he didn't leave immediately. Instead, he continued examining the other Pokémon Eggs displayed throughout the facility, methodically working his way toward the far end. Near the very back, he made an unexpected and exciting discovery.
A Magnemite Egg with King-level potential.
Jacob's pulse quickened as he did a quick mental count. Including this one, there were actually four Pokémon with King-level potential and one with Champion level potential housed within this entire breeding facility.
The overall quality was truly exceptional.
However, another student was currently examining this particular Egg, so Jacob maintained his composure and casually looked at other specimens nearby, not wanting to draw attention to his interest.
"Moyun, are you going to choose this Magnemite Egg?" someone asked the student standing before it.
"I…" The person standing in front of the Magnemite Egg was Jiang Moyun. He had been standing there for quite some time, clearly torn about his decision.
Jiang Moyun's mother was a professional Electric-type Pokémon breeder, and he had learned considerable knowledge about Pokémon breeding from her over the years. This included techniques for assessing Pokémon Egg potential, skills he believed gave him an advantage over the other students.
After thoroughly examining the available options, he had identified three Pokémon with particularly promising potential: one was a Joltik, another was a Grubbin, and the third was this Magnemite.
He found himself struggling to choose between these three Eggs and still hadn't reached a final decision.
After several more moments of hesitation, Jiang Moyun remained unable to commit to a choice. He decided to walk over and examine the other two Eggs one more time.
He deliberated repeatedly, observing each one with intense scrutiny.
Jacob watched Jiang Moyun walk away and remained perfectly calm. After waiting approximately two minutes, he casually approached the Magnemite Egg.
"Please wrap this Egg for me as well," Jacob said to the staff member. "How much will it cost?"
"Certainly, sir."
Jacob's swift action immediately attracted the attention of several other students, particularly Jiang Moyun, who was still examining the alternative Eggs nearby. Upon witnessing this, his face went pale with dismay. He wanted to protest, but he couldn't identify any legitimate reason to fault Jacob's actions—it was first come, first served.
"Please wrap this Egg for me too," Jiang Moyun said hastily, worried that the other Egg he'd been considering might also be claimed. He quickly approached a staff member and requested they package that Egg as well.
With two Pokémon Eggs now secured, Jacob shifted his attention to the remaining four Pokémon that had already hatched and were being housed in the facility.
Jacob realized something significant at this point. There were a total of six Pokémon with King-level potential or higher within the entire Mistvale Hydropower Station breeding program.
If he could somehow acquire all six of these exceptional Pokémon with Titan-level potential or above, becoming a Heavenly Kings member would definitely be within realistic reach!
However, Jacob recognized this was merely wishful thinking. These two Eggs had been relatively easy to obtain, but taking away those four already-hatched Pokémon would prove far more difficult.
Jacob had just learned from the facility receptionist that the Mistvale Group had already conducted potential assessments on all the hatched Pokémon.
While not perfectly precise, their testing had determined that three of the hatched Pokémon possessed Gym Leader Level potential or higher.
It was obviously impossible for Jacob to simply sweep up all those valuable Pokémon. He could only attempt to purchase them through proper channels. At the same time, he understood that those Pokémon would certainly not come cheap, and the Mistvale Group might not even be willing to sell them at any price.
After completing his Egg selections, Jacob immediately returned to his room, pulled out his phone, and called his father. He asked him to come to Mistvale Hydropower Station as soon as possible to attempt purchasing those four hatched Pokémon with King-level potential.
Simultaneously, Jacob also called Raya and Maximus, requesting that they both come to purchase a Pokémon as well.
Given Raya and Maximus's identities and social standing, the Mistvale Group would naturally be reluctant to refuse their requests.
Besides, these King-level potential Pokémon were going to be selected by someone eventually. Rather than letting them benefit strangers, it made more sense to benefit people within their own circle.
The next day arrived quickly.
Jacob and Raya boarded her private jet and flew directly to Aqualis City, preparing to capture the Gigantamax Lapras.
Compared to the task of selecting Pokémon Eggs, capturing the Gigantamax Lapras was unquestionably the top priority.
The experience of entering the Secret Realm Gap had made abundantly clear just how powerful the Pokémon they would be facing truly was.
"Jacob, now you can tell me more about that Secret Realm," Raya said. She was holding a Heliolisk in her arms—this Heliolisk was the Pokémon Raya had ultimately chosen from within the breeding facility.
Maximus had selected a Toxel for himself, while Jacob's father had chosen an Eevee. As for the remaining Tynamo, Jacob had coveted it intensely, but circumstances prevented him from claiming it.
Jacob could only console himself with the thought that he needed to leave some promising Pokémon for the Mistvale River Group's own use. It was wise to leave a bit of goodwill for potential future encounters and collaborations.
"That Secret Realm, though we call it a Secret Realm, is actually just a Secret Realm Gap," Jacob explained, looking directly at Raya. "Besides me, nobody else knows how to access the Secret Realm Gap, and this particular Gap is also connected to my new experimental research."
"As for the specific details of the situation, we'll discuss everything once we actually enter the Secret Realm Gap. Also, make sure you bring all of your main team Pokémon with you."
