Ryuji then checked Sakata Seiichiro and Inoue Kenta's injuries. Besides superficial wounds, they suffered internal injuries and fractures concentrated in their forearms and left chests, near their hearts—Lower Rank Two's attack had been deadly.
If they hadn't blocked with their arms, the attack would have been fatal.
Even with their defense, they were severely injured.
Ryuji used Wood Breath to ease their breathing, allowing them to cough up blood clogging their chests.
He then told Shinichi and Junichi, "Carry them. Let's leave quickly!"
"Yes, Senior Ryuji!" the brothers replied respectfully.
Rengoku observed this, noticing Ryuji's unusual breathing and the powerful life force emanating from him.
The more he interacted with Ryuji, the more mysterious and powerful he seemed.
Recalling the battle with Kokushibo, Rengoku knew he'd likely have died without Ryuji's intervention.
After a brief cleanup, the group left the forest.
On the way, Inosuke curiously asked Rengoku, "Rengoku-san, after I left, did you defeat that demon with six eyes?"
Kokushibo had nearly killed Inosuke, making him a prime target for revenge.
"No. Upper Ranks aren't easily defeated. Even Hashira can't defeat them alone. And you were ambushed by the strongest of the Twelve Kizuki, Upper Rank One! He's killed enough Hashira to count on both hands," Rengoku stated frankly, unconcerned about his image.
Inosuke was even more excited. "Great! I'll have a chance to defeat that six-eyed freak next time!!"
The others, however, were terrified. They understood why Rengoku had insisted on their retreat.
Hashira were considered the pinnacle of strength, so the idea that a demon could kill them was shocking.
"Ambitious! You can do it! But not now," Rengoku encouraged Inosuke.
Murada Shinichi asked, "Rengoku-sama, if Upper Ranks are so strong, are they invincible?"
"Not exactly. A one-on-one fight is difficult because Upper Ranks possess superior regeneration. Even if injured, they recover instantly. Hashira, being human, are affected by injuries, their fighting ability drastically decreasing. This is why Hashira die to Upper Ranks."
"Demons don't fear pain, but humans do! To defeat Upper Ranks, you need a numerical advantage!"
