Chapter 58 - The Letters

[POV: Solenne]

After eating, the pair returned to their room. It was only around seven in the evening, but the sun was already gone, replaced by the moon and stars…

Solenne stopped at the window, glancing up at the night sky. The stars were different in the North than in Calvarad, or in the Southern wolflands where she had grown up. They were clearer and brighter here, and their spectacular light was reflected in the fallen snow.

It was beautiful.

As she looked out, her mind wandered briefly to Alde, wondering how the old woman was faring alone. Solenne missed the witch's biting comments and dry sense of humor… as well as the scent of herbs and concoctions that permeated the apothecary.

She took a soft breath and stepped away from the glass, turning back to face Ruvan, sitting on the bed, watching her with interest. His eyes hadn't left her even once.

"You miss the human land?" the Alpha asked with a frown, staring at her like an unsolved puzzle. "Why?"
