When Ria came back to the class she had a weird smile on her face and was as red as a tomato. She walked pass Ezzy to her seat and sat down like someone who was in a trance.
" I'm supposed to ask what happened but I've decided to start minding my own business " Ezzy said to herself.
Some guys had tried their luck with Ezzy like they always did each year but Ezzy had turned them down again. She had wanted to say yes this year but a tiny part of her was hoping what she heard was not true and Drayce would ask her to be his Valentine instead of Selene like everyone was thinking. But it was almost the end of the day and Drayce had not even come to their class. The day ended with Drayce not asking anyone to be his Valentine. So to Ezzy she still had hope.
The next day which was the day before valentine, everyone in the whole of Umbravale high including the teachers were waiting to find out who's asking who? Two third year students had decided to try their luck with Ezzy today but she still turned them down. She made up her mind that if by lunchtime Drayce hadn't asked her she would say yes to whoever asked again.
Oleta and Mona were having the same issue. Mona thought Kairos was gonna ask her but he had ended up asking Sirena the daughter of a beautiful sea siren. So annoying. She had no choice but to accept a third year vampire kid. Dravan or whatever his name was. Oleta also thought Estevan was going to ask her but he hadn't asked her or anyone else for that matter and rumors flew round the school that he wasn't going to be around so she had also ended up asking one of their classmates. Cedric, descendant of one of the greatest Sorcerers to have ever lived. Ria had finally told them that she was going with Andre and he had accepted her as his mate. Well good for her. She had no worries. They all had no worries. Ezzy still had herself to think about. For some reason she was determined not to stay home this Valentine's day.
It was almost lunchtime when Drayce walked into their classroom. Ezzy's heart began beating fast. He was coming towards her. Finally he was gonna ask her. Too bad though, her heart was broken when he walked pass her and went to Selene.
" Come with me " He told her softly.
Selene smiled and took the opportunity to hold his arm as they walked out of the class. The damn school's " perfect couple "
" Shit!!" Ezzy cursed.
The lunch bell went off and Ezzy picked up her backpack and went to the lunchroom by herself. On her way to the lunchroom, she felt a sinister presence. She stopped walking and looked around. She had somehow ended up in the school library. Wasn't she supposed to be on her way to the lunchroom? What the heck was she doing here?
The only person she knew had that sort of manipulative powers in the whole school was...
" Vaelor Mythrandir. Haven't seen you in a while " She said. She couldn't miss the dark smell of that aura.
" How did you know it was me ?" Vaelor asked coming out of the shadows.
" Common sense, darling" Ezzy said.
" You've always been a smart one " Vaelor said genuinely impressed. She was the only female in the whole of Umbravale that had really caught his interest.
" Don't flatter me honey. What do you want? I'm starving " Ezzy said taking a seat.
" Okay. I won't waste your time. Go with me " Vaelor said.
" To where? The lunchroom?" Ezzy asked.
Vaelor grinned. She was pushing him and she knew it. Ezzy raised an eyebrow and grinned back.
" If you ain't gonna say anything I'll be on my way "
" Fine. Be my valentine "
" Um I think the correct phrase is ' Will you be my valentine?' "
" Don't push it dear girl "
" Fine. I'll go with you "
" Excellent. I'll come pick you up for the main party "
" Okay "
" You don't have to use lip balm tomorrow " Vaelor said.
" Why ?" Ezzy asked.
" Cause I'll make your lips wet " Vaelor replied winking.
" Oh please darling. You wish " Ezzy said laughing. " Let's go "
" Where ?"
" The lunchroom "
" Nope I haven't been there since first year "
" If you don't come with me I'll change my mind "
" You're a piece of work Esme. I guess that's why I never asked you out "
" Like I would say yes to dating you "
" Don't challenge me darling. I could take it to heart "
" Okay then. Go with me "
" Fine. You win "
Vaelor slipped his arm around her waist as they walked out of the library.
" You're taking too much advantage aren't you?" Ezzy asked.
" Of course I don't get to hold such a beautiful woman everytime "
" Oh please! I doubt you lack female company "
" Welllllll... "
Ezzy laughed. All the students were already in the lunchroom. Vaelor and Ezzy walked in, holding hands. The whole lunchroom became so silent that even is an office pin dropped you'd hear it. The students were shocked to see Vaelor Mythrandir in the lunchroom. He never came for lunch there and never attended any class since first year. But somehow he aces all his exams effortlessly. Oleta, Mona, Andre, Ria, Drayce, Estevan and Kairos were seated at a table. There was one extra chair there which had definitely been kept for Ezzy. Ezzy and Vaelor walked towards them. Ezzy pulled out the seat for Vaelor letting him sit first.
He smiled at her. This girl was simply unbelievable, unique and special.
" Thanks " He said and she nodded. He couldn't remember the last time he had thanked someone. She went away, got a chair for herself and sat next to him.
" What's up guys?" Ezzy asked. " Why do you all look so stunned "
" What's he doing here?" Andre asked.
" Be nice Andre. He's my valentine " Ezzy said.
Drayce's eyes widened.
" You're going with him?" He asked.
" Yeah "
" Okay I have no issues with that as long as you're nice to her " Ria said shaking his hand.
Vaelor nodded.
" Do anything to her and we'll murder you " Mona said.
Vaelor chuckled. " You have great friends. " He said to Ezzy.
" You can also be part of us if you want " Kairos offered.
" I'll consider it " Vaelor replied.
They all ate together, chatting with each other. Her friends had surprisingly warmed up to him. The only person that didn't say anything all through the meal was Drayce. He was frowning so hard that Ezzy thought his face would permanently look like that.
Before lunchtime was over the news had already gotten to every corner of the school that Vaelor Mythrandir had come into the main school building and was actually going out on Valentine's day with Esmeralda Rhazmyra. The teachers and the school board were shocked. Some if the members of the school board and even the principal had come to see for themselves. News also reached the whole school that Drayce hadn't asked Selene to be his Valentine. She was actually going with Javan Kings. Drayce had ended up not asking anyone. They weren't even sure if he was coming.
After school, Ezzy and Drayce stayed behind to decorate the whole school for tomorrow's celebration. Drayce was somehow distant today. There was no chatting both faced their jobs. When they were done and about going home, Drayce asked,
" Are you really going with Vaelor?"
" Yeah. Didn't you ask Selene?"
" No I wanted to go with someone else. Forget it "
" So you're not coming?"
" I am. Estevan asked me to be his Valentine. He didn't ask any girl so I ended up being the one "
" Oh "
Drayce frowned and walked towards his car without saying goodbye. He got into the car and drove out leaving a trail of dust behind.
Ezzy stood for a while watching his taillights until it disappeared. She got into her car and drove home.
