Chapter 18 - Awake

She sat there at the window…

Her breath fogging up the glass, eyes quietly locked on the warmth inside.

And then… a figure noticed her.

One of the team members.

He recognized her…

The face. The man who carried him through the snow.

Without a word, he opened the door and gently invited her in.

She stepped in slowly—

Cold clinging to her, but she didn't care.

The manager turned, his expression changing the moment he saw her.

He walked over, his eyes soft with a gratitude words couldn't hold.

"Thank you for saving his life," he said.

She didn't say anything.

Her gaze drifted quietly to the man lying on the bed… unconscious…

The one she thought she'd lose—

Like everyone else.

No one asked questions.

They just let her stay.

So she stood there… among strangers…

But for once, she didn't feel alone.

Hours passed…

And then finally…

He stirred.

His fingers twitched.

His lashes fluttered.

And slowly, his eyes opened.

He looked around—

Scanning faces…

As if looking for someone.

The manager stepped forward and sat beside him.

To him, that man was more than a manager—

He was his older brother in this chaotic world… the one he trusted his life with.

And when their eyes met—

A soft smile appeared on his face…

That smile…

The one she had waited to see for so long.

That one moment…

That one smile…

It stitched something back inside her—

Something that had been broken and lost for years.

She didn't move.

Didn't speak.

Didn't step forward.

She had promised herself.

Just one glance. Just to make sure he's okay.

And now that he was…

She turned around…

And left the cabin.

Silently.

Without a goodbye.
