Chapter 5 - CHAPTER FIVE

MILIANI'S POV

"B-but sir you said I have all the qualifications" I said in confusion.

"I'm aware," He said as he picked up my resume. "But I just can't give you the job" He said while dropping it back on the table and then stared at me.

I was dumbstruck. I had all the qualifications and work experience. I was more than qualified for that job. I started shaking. What was I going to do? What would I tell my mother? How would I be able to pay my bills?

He cleared his throat "I can't give you that job, because I'm giving you an even better one".

I got even more confused, a better one? What was he up to?

"I… I don't understand sir" I said in confusion.

"You'll be given the position of personal assistant to the CEO of CrimsonRich Industries" He replied.

Personal assistant? My job qualifications didn't even match that position. It made no sense whatsoever.

"But I don't quite qualify for that Job, sir."

"Well, to me you do," He said while he adjusted his shirt and leaned closer. "And here, my opinion matters the most. If I know you'll do better In a particular field, then I'll put you there"

Despite his words I still felt unsure about the whole thing. Who was he to decide anyways?

Well he is the CEO. Bullshit!

He had no right to tell me which job I could or couldn't do.

"As my personal assistant," He spoke up when he didn't get a response from me. "You'll have different perks. Your salary is double the salary of the original post you applied for, you'll have your personal car for better transportation and eventually a private apartment close to mine to aid your work. In addition to your salary you'll have a monthly allowance specifically for food and new clothes. And there are many other perks that you'd find out along the way"

I was shook, all these just for being a personal assistant? The only perk the personal assistant in my former workplace got was free lunch at the company cafeteria. Either this man was lying or I had actually hit the jackpot of all jobs. But it seemed too good to be true. I was still unsure about this but I couldn't lie, it was tempting.

"Don't keep me waiting, Peters. Are you In or out?" He said, staring at me intently.

I thought long and hard about it. The salary, the benefits. If I worked here for 5 months I'd be able to pay up all our debts and even have enough money to start a new life. I let out a deep sigh and nodded in approval.

"I'm in"

I don't know if I was hallucinating, but a wide grin appeared on his face and disappeared immediately after.

Weird

"Splendid. You'll receive an email with an e-form. You're required to fill it and send it back. Any information you need will be communicated to you" He said

"Thank you so much Mr Pierce" I said with a smile as I stood up from the chair.

"Declan, my name is Declan" He said with a smirk.

"Uh-" That little smirk made me flustered and I think he noticed "Of course. Thank you Mr. Declan" I said and left the office.

I could still feel his eyes on me as I left the office. He had this weird but oddly attractive aura that I just couldn't understand.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I can't believe you got the job! A private car and apartment?monthly allowance? This is amazing" Layla said as she jumped on me when I told her the good news.

"I'm so proud of you Ani." My mother said as she kissed my cheek.

Everything I did was so that she could be happy and live peacefully. Afterall, her happiness was my happiness.

"Sooooooo, Declan Pierce, Is he handsome?" Layla said as she gave me googly eyes.

"He's… alright" I said calmly when lord knew that I fumbled the first time I saw him. He looked like those fictional characters straight out of a fantasy book.

"But I've seen his pictures online, that means he's not all that in person" She said, sounding a little disappointed.

"Pictures lie I guess" I replied chuckling.

"Does it matter if he's handsome?" I asked again

"I mean imagine working as a personal assistant to a hot boss. Now that would be heavenly" She said fantasizing.

"Layla, you need to stop reading those little fantasy novels of yours. They're messing with you" My mom said while she served us lunch.

Her chicken stew was the best and she only made them on special occasions.

"Aunty May, they're not messing with me. They're a way to escape reality"

"What's the point of escaping it when you'll just come back anyways" I said

"Read them, then you'd understand"

"If you say so" I said chuckling and we all laughed.

At night, I sat outside admiring the sky. The way the stars glistened and the moon shone in perfect harmony, creating this wonderful sight. It was amazing.

"Out stargazing again?" I heard my mother's voice behind me. She came to sit with me.

"Mom, you should be resting. It's almost 10pm" I said worriedly

"I couldn't sleep, Ani. Besides you should be resting too, but here we are" She said chuckling.

I smiled.

"Is something troubling you love?"

"Why do you ask?"

"You only come to this spot when you're deep in thought"

She was right. I was thinking about everything that had happened in the past two weeks, especially the one-night stand. I told my mother everything that bothered me, but I couldn't tell her this, I didn't even know the stranger.

"I'm just worried about the job" I said hesitantly "I don't know if I'll do well as a personal assistant"

"My dear," She cleared her throat "You'll do exceptionally well. I believe in you Ani. You've overcome so much at such a young age. I don't think this is much of a challenge to you. You'll do great. And I'll always be here to support you"

I hugged her as tears streamed down my eyes "Thank you mom. I love you so much"

She hugged me back and patted my back "I love you too Ani. Now let's go inside, this place is freezing"

I chuckled and went inside with her.
