Chapter 5 - Chapter Five

Present day, 10th March

Esther's POV

"Hey babe!" She jumped on my bed her hands on my breast she pressed them as she spoke, and I just laid there wondering if I would ever be able to get my life back. "My god, I've missed the softness of this being. It was all in my head during Okunola's lecture. You know what your pumpkins have done to my brains Esther."

I shoved off her hands and turn to the other side. "I'm not wanting that now abeg." I told her.

She was already removing her clothes, the heat in the room was enough reason for that, and we are sick and tired of begging NEPA to be consistent with their light.

"What's wrong with you?" She paused. I didn't have any answer for her so she continued. " You didn't have class today, or you decided to stab all your classes?"

"Before nko" I wanted nothing but none one with me in that room, no one but by first bestie at convent faith university. Since I saw her at the beginning of the week I could not take my mind off what we use to be.

How did we get here?

I know she'll be just as shocked as everyone who knew me then will be if she finds out what I have become. We loved God. Though not completely righteous, we were religious and we tried our best to stay undefiled. If only we knew then that the devil or should I say life itself had bigger plans for us. How did I become a girl's babe? Yet, I lead services in chapel, isn't that a curse to my soul?

How did I become this girl that disrespect God so much and still stand boldly at his altar?

"Don't tell me it's this your asthma again?" She examined my temperature. "I can help with a chest massage. Come on babe cheer up."

That's the point. I never had asthma. It just came all of a sudden like a borrowed garment. Nobody had it in my family and something tells it is consequence of my sins. I guess I'm facing other grievous consequences too.

"My dad called earlier today. " I gave in to my friends comfort. Who else would listen to me? Not even God. "Lara, my dad was laid off. At this crucial time in our lives. What else is left off my family? What the hell is going on Lara?!" I sobbed.

"You need to calm down Esther. The doctors are doing their best to rescue your mum, and you know she's already improving…"

"And then her benefactor loses his job. Who pay the bills now?!" I interrupted almost shouting at her.

"Whoa, calm down. Yours is better I tell you. Are you not on scholarship, and we just have few months to graduate? Why don't you count your blessings more this period."

She ran her fingers intently down my naked body. "I can make you feel better you know?"

"Are you crazy Lara? I said no. " I jumped out of bed and began to get my clothes.

"Oh now I have to beg for my right Esther. When you do your touching I never complain o"

I was quiet.

"Well…" She ran her hands through her hair. " I'm sorry. It's just that this urge is… I'm sorry. I have gist, though. And it is one you will want to hear."

"What?" I was already fully dressed."

"Are you going out because of me

Come on, I'm not that bad na?"

"No. There's evening service today and it's just one more hour. I'm going to the field."

"Okay o." She covered herself with the sheets.

"What's the things will want to hear?"

"Oh yes, it is that your 100 level friend Holah."

"She's currently in a comma at the clinic. She was found in her room in her pool of blood. Rumor has it that she had taken abortion pills that went wrong."

"Aholah. No. Wow…" My head ached. What a shame we are to our vows. "You know what? I need air. Don't be surprised if you don't see me in chapel."

And I left.
