Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"hhrggh....", groaning in pain.

"my throat … so dry .… why … my voice's … hoarse?"

I feel so much pain in all over my body. What's wrong with me. My head hurt so much. It is so hard to even lift my finger.

I try to crawl my heavy body. Tried to reach for the glass in my bed drawer, but somehow my hand wouldn't reach it. For a long time, I tried to move my body, but it so difficult. My eyelid still clamped shut, like there was glue making them stick together really tightly.

I took a deep breath, hoping it would make me feel better and my body feels lighter. But it felt like the atmosphere was different from my room. Like there was a different smell, a different humidity in the air, a darker darkness, and the mattress felt harder than I remembered. When my eyes slightly opened slowly, I took in my surroundings.

"This isn't my room"

'Where is it?' I moved quickly, even though I felt pain earlier. I went to the small window. It's a bit high, and I could only see my face. I saw a shadow that looked like it was me.

"Aaargghhhhhhh..." I was shocked by the change in my face. I observed myself, my different hair, body and clothes, and this room. Panic washed over me. 'Am I still dreaming?'

Someone came in.

"Anna, what's wrong? Are you okay?", A woman half-ran towards me, wit a face that also looked panicked.

''Who, ... who are you?"

''Don't be kidding with me, what's wrong? are you alright?", She put her arm around my shoulders and touched my forehead, checking my temperature.

''Who, ... Wh ... where ... why?', I stammered, confused, panicked.

"What's wrong? are you in pain?", asked this woman with concerned face.

'' ... ". the pain in my head came back, my throat felt really dry and my legs feel like they're going to give way.

"Sit here. you must be thirsty and dizzy. With the amount of drinks you had last night, there's no way you'll be fine this morning.', she nagged but still warmly carried me to sit on the bed.

"You know, you drank almost half a barrel of rum last night (exaggerated). I didn't know you were such a good drinker. I'm grateful that you didn't show any strange behavior when you were drunk, but I suffered a lot carrying you back home." She rubbed my face and tied my loose hair behind my ears. I was still silent, trying to digest this very confusing situation.

"Drink this," she handed me a glass of warm water. "Wait here while you sober up. I'll call you when breakfast is ready," she hurried out of the room.

I was still shrouded in confusion, but my breathing was calmer. I slowly took in my surroundings. The room had quite a high ceiling, with the only source of light coming from the sunlight filtering through the small dusty window. There was an oil lamp on the wall, a chair, and cabinet in the corner of the room. I drained the water in my glass, then stood up and walked out of the room with thousands of questions raging in my mind about my current situation.

"you look like this is your first time here, just sit there. breakfast will be ready soon." she said to me as I looked around my surroundings.

" ...", I sat down, confused.

"I know you must be very sad after being fired. But that doesn't mean you can drink so much until you lose consciousness." She held out a bowl of soup, with steam still rising from it and looked really delicious.

"..."mild and savory aroma from the soup made me unconsciously gulping.

"This your favourite Anna, I made it specially just for today. Next time I won't carry you if you get drunk until you passed out.", while she still serving up a plate of sandwiches and a glass of warm milk.

With all the food laid out in front of me, looking so delicious, the panic and confusion vanished, replaced by a hunger that filled my awareness. I ate with gusto. In the midst of this confusion, it turned out that my stomach was still hungry when it was time to eat. Maybe after eating, I could think more clearly and find a solution to my current situation.

"Anna, are you staying here or go back to your parents' house?", she asked as she got ready.

"...", I just looked at her with a confused in my face

"You can stay here for a while if you haven't decided yet. I have to go to work before the sun gets high".

"Wait, hmm... thanks for breakfast, it's very delicious. And … if I'm Anna, … so … hmm … what's your name?", I asked her tmidly.

"You must be joking, this is the first time you've ever thanked me for making breakfast. And you asked my name…?" her eyes widened as if in disbelief. "did you hit your head last night when I was carrying you?" She ruffled my hair to check if there was any injury on my head.

"My head is still dizzy and I forgot what happened", I argued

"Including my name? Your best friend since childhood?", she asked incredulously.

I just smiled bitterly while shrugging my shoulders.

"Sain. I can't believe I need to introduce myself to early in the morning. Well, I don't have time, I must hurry now. Take good care of the house, rest if your head is still dizzy. Your stuff is in your room if you want to check it. Bye, see you in the noon. And hopefully you're back to yourself and fully normal". she ran like she was catching up so she wouldn't be late.

After washing the dishes, I went back to my room.I checked the items Sain showed me. They were "Anna" items. I'm unfamiliar with that name, even though it's similar to my own. I'm Hanna Sue, a 32-year-old single journalist. I don't know how I got stranded here. whether it's karma or just a dream. but it's too much realistic to be a dream. Perhaps this truly my karma. but for what?

I know I'm not a very good or saintly person. but I've never committed any unforgivable sin (like theft, murder, or other crimes), at least. I think I'm still a decent, kind person. I need to find out and get out of this situation as soon as possible before my overly active brain, full of assumptions and negative thought, makes my head explode, apart from the side effects of this hangover.

There weren't many items that 'Anna' had in this bag. There were a few worn-out clothes, a book, and an old music box. I opened the book which seemed to be a diary. I just wish I could read the writing, as I am very bad at reading other people's handwriting. I opened the first page and was grateful that I could understand the handwriting. It says 'Annania' on the first page.

'this is my first day working as a maid at the Mollota residence'

'I'll work hard, and send some of my wages to mother and father in the village'

'I hope Kira can study at the academy and Keigo grows up healthy'

'it's only been a week since I've been in the capital and I already miss them so much'

'I have to keep up my spirits, and save up as much money as possible so I can open my own shop when I return home'

'I'll write to them tomorrow''

'Mollota residence? Don't tell me that it is that Mollota? That bastard father who ignores his illegitimate child just because she is illegitimate. How could it be his daughter's fault when he was the one who cheated and having affair with another woman. Just because his wife was depressed because she wasn't getting pregnant. my brain instantly abuzz with memories of a character in a novel I had just read.

I opened a few next page. I found familiar names again.

'... Miss Riela...'

' ...Marchioness Isthar...', "where am I, that someone use the term marchioness?" ...

' ... Head Buttler Edgar...' "head buttler???" ...

' ... Madam Sana...'

All these names are the characters in the story I read last night. this kind of clothes, this place, don't tell me, ... do I... how could... is this real...? I don't even believe in religion (but I believed in God, I swear!) but how could this happen. the transmigration plot that only exists in fantasy stories. The story I read just to spent my boring life and write a bad comment in it just to vent my annoyance and irritation. how could I now be trapped in it???
