Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 : Exordium

CRACK!!!

Within loud thunderclaps, huge trees of lightning danced in the sky.

A man in his mid thirties kept looking at the sky from the 4th floor of a huge corporation building, not even flinching from the sudden thunderclaps.

There were countless tall skyscrapers visible from the window of the room the man was standing alone in.

It's arguable if any of the skyscrapers could be more glorious than the building the man was currently in, and if any of the 'humans' present in the building were as important as the man currently felt that he was .

The man was the CEO of maybe the biggest corporation in the world. the office building he was in had 12 million square feet of floor area. Normally more than a hundred thousand people worked in this huge area, but currently nearly all of them were on leave, the corporation was mourning the lost of it's creator .

Only a handful of individuals were on this floor, completing the discussions about the future of this glorious corporation.

There were 12 people sitting around a rectangular meeting table made of wood, fashioned in intricate carvings, while the main seat was empty. The lonesome figure of the CEO, the man with the responsibility to lead was standing by the curtain wall staring at the ongoing thunderstorm as if finding relief in the chaos.

"We know you are grieving now, but we can't prolong our mourning..." an old man said while looking at the back of the CEO .

Another old man with a shaved bald head sighed then said: " Iscar, you were the closest to the chairman than any of us, he raised you to take care of the future of our corporation alongside the young master, you need to collect yourself and be more hardworking from tomorrow ."

A dignified young man in his early twenties drank the remaining coffee from his cup then said: "Cousin Cain has been tirelessly working for the past half decade to eradicate the corruption in our corporation, He single handedly uncovered the puppeteer."

The young man then looked at the emptiness in his cup with a distant expression then looked at the empty seat of the main position with an unreadable expression and said: "Sadly the main culprit was our little uncle, This heartbreaking news maybe the reason for our grandfather's sudden decline in health, little uncle was his only remaining son after all. But I know Cousin Cain will not let his mourning get in the way of the future of our corporation, cause I know he still has unfinished business left in the ranks of our corporation, many accounts related to corruption are not settled yet."

After the young man stopped talking, many other people in the room said many kinds of things, some raised concern about the falling of prices of many of the stocks of the companies owned by their corporation, some suggested making of memorials in the digital worlds of games their companies had made, which the chairman cherished and played with the young master, many other suggested many kinds of ways to honor the memory of their chairman, simply yapping, hoping to get their hands on some extra funds.

The man by the curtain wall finally turned to face the other members of the meeting table, revealing his face which had in place of his left side a landscape of scar tissue, puckered and taut, pulling the corner of his mouth into a long but almost imperceptible grimace.

Except for being whole with the smooth skin of the right side of his face and revealing a handsome almost heroic face, there were ridges and valleys of angry red and pale, waxy white, like a dried riverbed. His left eye was a shattered pane. The iris, if it was still there, was obscured by a milky, opaque film, the eyelid was partially fused, leaving the eyes perpetually half-open with a vacant unseeing stare.

Cain Iscar first looked at the young man who had called him his cousin with a calm trustworthy stare. Then walking to the vacant chair of chief, he sat down on it and opened the drawer in front, from within he produced a metallic masquerade mask that had most of its surface as silver and only a little circle of black surrounding the hole over his right eye.

Cain after wearing the mask said with a heavy voice: "I will be trusting every one of you to help me keep the legacy of the chairman as bright as he had left it, and I will be extensively focusing on nurturing new blood to further brighten the glory of our corporation, There are two new huge projects that needs overseeing now, they have huge future prospects, one being the cure for the plague caused by the miasma outbreak near the southern border and the other being the chemical weapon capable enough to solve the upcoming monster tide from the northern wild forests. Both of these will need for strict overseeing, we can't let the products of our hard work being stolen again."

Cain listed the possible people who are suspected of being moles from other corporations, within them, some were even suspected of having ties to rivaling nations.

Then Cain listed out task related to the management of trusts, new investment in their pharma branch, giving green flag for the new factory of heavy artillery gun near the military base of north eastern border and so on...

One after another people present in the room started leaving after receiving their tasks, only four people were left now in the subtle extravagant meeting room.

Cain looked at the galiant young man and said: "David, you are in charge of of internal investigations for now, after rooting out our internal problems, you can start preparing for the rightful place as CEO, we can't let our juniors inherit a corrupted mess of a corporation."

Saying so Cain looked at the remaining two old mans and said calmly but with a threatening light in his right eye : "elders, you were the ones who spend the longest time working in our corporation beside the chairman, i'll be leaving the responsibility of overseeing the development of the chemical weapon to elder Dorn and the overseeing of the cure of miasma plague to elder Bron."

The two elders, old baldy Dorn and old normy Bron nodded and said calmly : "glory to emberwake and progress to 'pholz ardst dost'." then the old elders stood up and left, there faces still calm but there eyes betraying caution and a hint of fear.

lastly the young man looked at Cain and said with a smile: " goodbye for now cousin, be strong but depend on me a little bit more."

Cain said nodded and said: " I'll be expecting great things from you David, go home rest and prepare for tomorrow and the long days that are about to come... give my greetings to delilah when you see her."

After their goodbyes, the young man left with a determined look in his eyes.

In the meeting room Cain was left alone, he again found himself staring out the curtain wall, but now there was no thunderstorm outside but a mild downpour of rain hinting the upcoming dreadful season of plagues .

Cain sighed and thought 'oldman, if you haven't got in my way and if you haven't failed in your act of showing me love, then I would've been happy even if I was a dog to your grandchildren, but in the end age got you, you couldn't love me as your own but finally let your guard down and trusted my competence, now I will begin my silent conquest, overshadow your legacy, find the secrets of your blood, farewell beloved chairman, farewell grandfather."
