Nico leaned in, lips just barely brushing Kyan's.
It was soft.
Warm.
Kyan's breath hitched, eyes fluttering shut. His fingers curled around Nico's shirt like he was finally letting go of the anger.
Their lips were about to meet—
BANG!
A loud crash echoed from the docks.
Then—
Voices.
Yelling.
And not the normal kind.
These ones had accents.
"GET THE BOAT! NOW!"
Kyan's eyes flew open. "Wait—what was that?"
Another bang. Then a bottle shattered somewhere behind them.
Nico blinked, frowning. "Is that—?"
"ARE THOSE SWORDS??" Kyan screeched, turning toward the noise.
They peeked from behind the corner just in time to see a group of wild-looking guys climbing off a sketchy boat, swinging ropes and shouting in different languages. One of them had an eyepatch. Another had a parrot on his shoulder.
Kyan's jaw dropped. "Is that a parrot??"
Nico cursed under his breath. "You've got to be kidding me. Pirates?"
