"What do you mean, extinction?" Blazar asks, her voice shaking with terror. She grabs his arm without thinking. "Does this mean that I might be the only ogre in the whole world?"
Kaelric looks at her hand on his arm, then back at her face. Something dark crosses his features as he processes her question. "The Great Purge happened when you were just a baby. They hunted down every ogre they could find."
"Every single one?" Her grip tightens on his arm, her nails digging into his skin.
"The government sent teams to every corner of the world. They had special tracking magic to find ogre blood." His jaw clenches, muscles twitching with suppressed anger. "Men, women, children - it didn't matter."
Before Blazar could say anything else, he suddenly shifts the conversation.
"Why did you hide your gender?" he asks, his eyes boring into hers with renewed intensity.
