Chapter 1 - Surprise

There she was, beautiful as the moon. The pride and joy of my father and the whole pack, she was back, but how?.

"Elara, you"

Elaine tried to speak. This didn't make any sense, Elara was dead!.

Her pack mourned her in the winter!!.

That same winter the moon shone with such intensity, it hurt looking at it.

She remembered the look of disappointment her father's face.

A look saying;

'I wished it was you'

It wasn't much of a surprise since she was a failure in everything.

Her sister was the pride and joy of their weak clan.

She was the hope for it, and she ruined it.

Ever since that day, she became a pariah,

The 'Sister-Killer', so many rumors were spread about her.

Some saying how cruel she was and others saying that she killed her sister for her father's attention.

The looks and words were enough to make her leave her former pack, and become a rogue.

And that's when she met Jason and became his Luna.

Yet, here Elara was, in her mate's arms.

Arms that never held her in such a manner.

"Did you not hear me?, I said you could leave".

"Jason-"

"That's Alpha to you, now get out!!" Elara spat out with a pompous tone.

"Elara! I'm your older sister-"

Right before those words left her lips, a stinging sensation took over her right cheek.

'Jason just slapped me?'

The look of shock crept onto her face, never had he hit her before. Despite the fact that he never loved her, hitting her was something she did not expect.

"I would not tolerate disrespect to the woman I love"

He growled as his eyes glowed, a testament of his power.

He walked up to Elaine and sneered at her.

"I told you to leave-"

"But where would I go?!, why are you treating me this way?!. I've loved you since I became your Luna, I never disobeyed you in any way-"

But her pleas were cut off as Jason grabbed her by the face, not in a romantic way but one of authority as he looked her in the eyes.

"Then obey me and get out of my sight. Whether out of the pack, or at the edges of our territory I do not care. I simply do not want your presence around me. You are no longer needed Elaine"

With those words he shoved her to the ground and went back to Elara, grabbing her hand as they walked away, leaving Elaine breaking down.

'This, this must be a dream, I must be hallucinating.

My sister's dead!!, she's dead!!, this isn't real, this isn't real, this can't be real!!!'

She clawed the ground shaking as tears fell onto the ground, being swallowed greedily by the dirt.

The day, she fell into a river. And

"Y'know, anyone else would think you're going insane, Ela"

'That voice!!'

Alerted by the sudden break of the silence she lifted her head and looked around frantically.

"Up here, geez what happened to you sense of smell?"

Up in the tree to her left, hanging upside down with a goofy smile on his face was, Max the little brother of her Alpha, or former one.

"What do you want?"

She muttered annoyed at being seen in this vulnerable state by Max.

He was the clown of the pack, a trouble maker.

He stood at an average height for someone his age, his hair so black the abyss would be jealous.

And there on his face, was his always mocking smirk.

"Ahhh you wound me Ela"

He swung himself off the branch and landed with a loud thud as he exaggeratedly placed his left hand right over his heart, making his way over to Elaine with a swagger in his steps.

"My dear sister-in-law, why make your little ray of sunshine so sad?."

Elaine with an eye roll started to walk away from Max.

"Oh come on Ela, don't be so dismissive, I got alot to tell you, like the news of the old fart falling into the river during the hunt today in the morning!!

Haha that old man should just-"

Pain, his back was in pain.

How did he even get put on his back?.

A claw on his throat snapped him out of confusion.

The claw belonging to none other than Elaine.

She glared furiously at him her eyes puffy from crying a few minutes ago.

"Ughh Ela really?, why are you always mean to me?"

A rustle in the bushes caught the attention of Elaine.

Quickly retracting her claw, she rushed towards the source of the sound.

Max quickly got up and chased after her, yelling for her to wait.

For an hour he tried to keep up, panting as he got more and more exhausted, he hadn't transformed yet, but neither has she.

'Is this the true strength of Ela?, she's so fast'

He couldn't help but admire her speed, no female in the pack has this sort of speed in Lycarra.

'Ugh less inner monologue and more trying to catch up Max'

He shook his head to snap himself out of his thoughts.

Finally she stopped in a clearing and sniffed around.

"Oh thank goodness you finally stopped"

Max panted, falling to his knees, exhaustion hitting him hard like the needle that broke the camel's back.

"Don't you know that stressing your brother-in-law is a crime in Lycarra?!.

My back hurts and don't ask me about my legs."

To his surprise Elaine did not respond, she was sniffing around as if she was looking for someone.

"Oi!! Don't ignore me Ela."

Max huffed as he made his way to her.

His face scrunched up with a scowl.

Elaine turned to face him with a frown,

"Do you ever shut up Max?!. There's something wrong here and you're here yapping about not getting attention!!."

Max just stared at her, crossing his arms.

"You still didn't say sorry for tackling me to the ground back there. Aish the old fart was right you ladies are so trouble-"

But his rant was short-lived as a spear landed right beside him, causing him to fall on his butt in shock.

Putting his left hand on his cheek he felt a fluid make contact with his finger, the metallic smell in the air hit his sensitive nose, realization danwing on him.

'Oh crap'
