Chapter 107: A Quiet Return
Thursday, July 1, 2010
When Niels stepped off the plane at Gatwick, the cold air felt familiar. His time in the Netherlands already seemed further away.
As he walked through the terminal, he thought about the trip. Milan had given him ideas about tactics, Genoa had shown him a different approach, Utrecht had made him think about long-term planning, and Eindhoven had given him plenty to consider about youth development.
Then his thoughts returned to the problems waiting for him.
Levante wanted Max. Parma were interested in Luka. Baxter was going back to Everton.
Niels adjusted the backpack over his shoulder. Inside were his notebook and the football psychology book he had carried throughout the trip.
Gatwick was busy. Families dragged suitcases through the terminal while people rushed to catch trains and make phone calls. Niels kept his head down and moved through the crowd.
There was no attention on him, and he preferred it that way.
