Chapter 278: The Mantis Behind the Mantis's Mantis
The Thunderbird had two bloody holes in its belly, with blood continuously flowing out. These were left by the Re'em, and in return, the Thunderbird had torn off half the Re'em's face skin and eye with one claw. This was how direct and bloody the war of magical creatures was.
As it went deeper into the pyramid, the Thunderbird didn't find any trace of that human wizard from before. But for it, the whereabouts of that human wizard didn't matter anymore. As long as it didn't interfere with obtaining that item, what happened to that human had nothing to do with it.
What was laughable was that the item was completely useless to creatures like the Nundu and Chimaera, yet they fought so fiercely for it. On the contrary, the Occamy, dragon, and Mountain Troll Dragon posed the greatest threat to the Thunderbird. Especially the Occamy. If it awakened its ancestral bloodline and used that item, its chances would be as great as the Thunderbird's own!
Sizzle, sizzle, sizzle...
Electric current flickered across the Thunderbird's body surface as it suddenly crashed into the wall ahead.
Rumble!
The wall collapsed.
A massive space inside the pyramid appeared before the Thunderbird.
Above this huge space were densely packed ventilation holes. Moonlight shot through these holes into the pyramid, falling on the altar at the pyramid's centre. It was visibly absorbed by a section of vertebrae on the altar, with what seemed like drops of blood-red colour gathering on the vertebrae, and faint sounds of wind and thunder echoing within the space.
It was this!
It was this!
It had indeed awakened!
It was mine!
Excitement flowed in the Thunderbird's eyes. Without any hesitation, it charged forward directly, opening its mouth to swallow that thing.
But just then, the ventilation holes above the Mayan pyramid suddenly became dark as if blocked by something. Then a rumbling sound rang out from above, with large amounts of rocks and dust falling down. Along with these rocks and dust, the Occamy, Mountain Troll Dragon, and Sphinx fell from above together, blocking the Thunderbird's path.
The Mountain Troll Dragon being here meant that dragon had already been dealt with.
The Thunderbird looked at the Mountain Troll Dragon with wariness in its eyes.
Meanwhile, the six human wizards outside looked at the dragon with torn-off wings and twisted neck, the Re'em with most of its face torn off and throat ripped open in death, the unconscious Chimaera and Nundu, and the Swooping Evil that had run off somewhere unknown. Their faces were all very grim.
The unconscious and escaped ones were one thing, but the dead dragon and Re'em were magical creatures under strict protection by the Brazilian Ministry. Now that they had died here, even if it had nothing to do with them, it would still be quite troublesome. And what kind of disturbance would be caused by whatever could make these extremely precious magical creatures fight desperately and compete madly for it?
Thinking of this, the six wizards immediately raised their wands and fired signals, summoning others to prepare to blockade this area, then gradually solve the problems here.
Inside the pyramid, Sean looked through the ventilation holes at the exploding signal flares outside. He knew he and Kulkan had to hurry; otherwise, once the wizards outside completed their blockade, his escape would be a pipe dream. Even if he obtained the item inside, taking it away wouldn't be easy.
With this thought, Sean looked at the magical creatures below and knew it was time for him and Kulkan to act.
"Kulkan, it's time for us to act."
"Good!"
After responding, Kulkan immediately emerged from Sean's embrace, quickly concealed herself, and silently crawled along the wall toward the altar below.
At the same time, Sean drew his wand and remained clinging to the wall as before, waiting for the best moment to strike.
At this moment, the magical creatures were fighting fiercely over that vertebra.
If they could still unite against the Thunderbird and human wizards before, now, for the sake of competing for this vertebra, these magical creatures could no longer possibly work together.
The Sphinx was the first to be torn apart, dying from the Mountain Troll Dragon's sudden attack, the Occamy's sneak attack, and the Thunderbird's finishing blow. What followed was a three-way melee.
All three were XXXXX-rated magical creatures with massive bodies, solid armour, and rumbling thunder. Their battle quickly intensified, with rocks and dust constantly falling from the pyramid in their fight, giving it a precarious feeling.
At this very moment, the vertebrae on the altar was suddenly disturbed. The next second, Kulkan revealed herself, snatched up the vertebrae in her mouth, continuously enlarged her body, and swallowed it directly.
This sudden change made the Thunderbird, Occamy, and Mountain Troll Dragon all roar angrily and charge toward Kulkan.
But just then, an astonishing chill descended. The altar and pyramid were instantly frozen, and even the three magical creatures were affected. They all lived in tropical regions. This sudden cold wave immediately made all three feel very uncomfortable, their body movements becoming stiff and slow!
At this moment, Sean, who had cast LV5 Frost Domain, revealed himself and directly used his Animagus transformation, becoming the White Serpent King. His golden serpent pupils blazed with light, wisps of light spreading outward like golden spider lilies. In just an instant, the closest Mountain Troll Dragon rapidly petrified and lost its life.
The Occamy and Thunderbird each shrank their bodies and fled at high speed, avoiding the fate of complete petrification, but parts of their bodies were still petrified, causing them to fall to the ground unable to move.
As the use of Serpent King's Eyes ended and the golden petrifying light dissipated, Sean immediately returned from White Serpent King form to human form, half-kneeling on the ground and gasping heavily. Just like before, the strength and spirit in his body were instantly drained, but fortunately he was prepared.
Tremblingly, he reached into his embrace to pull out the Pure White Pocket Watch and gently pressed the button. The hands immediately reversed to ten minutes ago when Sean had set the time. Immediately, white light flowed around Sean's body, restoring his strength and spirit to their state ten minutes ago, before using Serpent King's Eyes.
Exhaling, Sean watched Kulkan swim to the Occamy and swallow it in one gulp. He glanced at the time and called to Kulkan: "Kulkan, hurry up, or the wizards outside will finish setting up the blockade magic."
Without answering Sean, Kulkan just sped up, coming before the Thunderbird. Looking at the Thunderbird trying to build up power to attack her with lightning, Kulkan's eyes also blazed with a trace of light, immediately causing the Thunderbird's body to stiffen and interrupting its charging action.
Without any hesitation, Kulkan enlarged her body again and swallowed the wailing Thunderbird in one gulp, then contentedly shrank her body and burrowed back into Sean's embrace.
