Chapter 394 - Chapter 394 : I am Alex Ray. When you see this letter

"I am Alex Ray. If you're reading this sentence, I am already dead."

Alex took the letter from Loki—written by his former self—and opened it. The first sentence struck him like a thunderbolt.

In that moment, he wondered if he'd landed in the wrong universe.

Because what he had transmigrated into wasn't just the Marvel world—it was a bizarre and convoluted reality far beyond what he imagined.

He continued reading the letter.

"Are you scared? I've always wanted to pull this prank, but people in the Marvel universe don't really get the joke."

It was as if the past Alex had predicted his reaction.

Alex couldn't help but smile bitterly. He could almost picture his former self—isolated, alien, craving understanding from a world that would never truly relate. That longing was etched into every word on the page.

"Hello, my reincarnation. I'm indeed dead. But it was worth it. My only regret is not being able to return to my original world... to see my family one last time."

That line pierced the softest part of Alex's heart. He imagined his former self, standing at the end of a foreign universe, gazing at alien stars—carrying a heart full of yearning and sorrow for the world he once called home.

Alex's eyes reddened. He could feel it—the ache, the bond that transcended life and death. That connection to one's roots... it was something they both shared.

But if even someone as powerful as his past self couldn't make it back… then could he?

"I know you must have a lot of questions. Don't worry—strictly speaking, you and I aren't the same person. In other words, I'm really, completely dead. This isn't a possession. There's no reincarnation."

"I've lived long enough. I don't want to keep going. I've spent thousands of years, and in the end, I failed. I won't start over. It's too exhausting. Maybe that makes me a failure of a transmigrator, but I've had enough."

"Whether you make it back to your world… that's entirely up to you."

"Apart from retaining some of my memories, you and I have nothing in common. You're not a reincarnation—think of it more like you're me in a parallel universe."

"You've played video games, right? Think of me as Save File 1. I failed that run. You're Save File 2. This time, the game's yours to play."

"But I did leave you a little cheat—something I added to the new file. A friend-making system. And I'm passing on my failure to you too, so you don't make the same mistakes."

"You can restart the game, but you can't restart life. I couldn't do it. But you still can. After all, I was a transmigrator—I still had some tricks left, haha."

As Alex read deeper, the persona of his past self became vivid and tangible. The man described in Loki's stories as indifferent was actually someone worn down by endless battles, burdened by knowledge, and tired of existing.

To Alex, it was like staring into a mirror—two versions of himself, standing face to face.

He could hear it in the words. The former Alex wasn't carefree—just exhausted. Maybe he truly wanted peace.

He finally understood: he wasn't a substitute or mere successor. He was his own self, a version born in another timeline, with a destiny uniquely his.

If anything, he owed his very existence to his former self.

"You've probably heard bits of my story from Loki. You must know that I was hunted by the One-Above-All. Hell, the entire Marvel Universe came after me."

"Fuck, these Marvel guys really don't play fair. I just wanted to go home. But they didn't hold back. Their punches hurt like hell. Be careful—they're no joke."

"Yeah. The reason I was hunted is simple: I found a way to go home. The only way. Through transcendence."

"Only by reaching a transcendent state can you truly escape the Marvel Universe, avoid being rebooted, and find a path back to your own world."

"Marvel's system—call it the Heavenly Dao or whatever—doesn't allow living beings to transcend. So the OAA, as its embodiment, brought the full might of the Marvel multiverse down on me."

"You saw how it ended. I failed. But I got halfway there. I reached half-step transcendence. Think about it—how else do you think I held out against that kind of firepower for so long?"

Alex felt a jolt in his chest. So his past self really did find a path home.

He'd long suspected the reason for the pursuit was Alex's attempt to break out of the Marvel Universe itself. This letter confirmed it.

Now he had clarity. There was a path forward—transcendence.

But he quickly hit a wall of doubt. He didn't know how to reach that state. And even if he did, how could he possibly outrun OAA and the gods?

Still, it was a start. A direction.

Alex clenched his fists, his gaze steeled with resolve. Even if he achieved transcendence one day, he'd still need to be cautious. One wrong move and he could end up like the former Alex—dead and erased.

He read on.

"Honestly, with my power, I could've just hidden away. But I realized something… I was walking the wrong path. When I reached half-step transcendence, I hit a ceiling. No matter what I did, I couldn't go further."

"I was crushed. After all that effort, all those years—I was stuck. I gave up fighting. But I couldn't let go either. So I used what strength I had left to seal my memories before crossing over and splintered a tiny piece of my soul into the reincarnation cycle. That's where you came from. And I built you a cheat—the friend-making system."

"At my level, creating a system manually wasn't hard. But it burned everything I had left. You're lucky, you know. I didn't get a system when I got here. All my power? Earned through blood, sweat, and sleepless nights."

"This is your beginning. Technically speaking, you're really part of this Marvel Universe now."

"Once that was done, I made up my mind. I was going to fight them. If I killed them all, maybe I'd open a way home. And even if I failed—at least I'd show these Marvel bastards how powerful a transmigrator can be!"

"I didn't disgrace us, did I?"

Alex Ray's hands trembled slightly as he folded the letter.

He had never admired someone so deeply—and that someone was… himself. Or a version of himself who had fought for a dream no one else dared pursue. Who had died standing, buried beneath stars not his own.

Now, that burden—no, that legacy—rested on his shoulders.

And he wasn't going to waste it.
