Chapter 451 - Chapter 451: Captain Spider-Man's Mental Breakdown

Captain Universe Spider-Man, clad in a cosmic battle suit radiant with starlight, zipped between the towering structures of Manhattan at a speed far beyond human capability. He was rapidly closing in on the battlefield in Hell's Kitchen—but his mind was anything but calm. It roiled like a storm-tossed sea, restless and chaotic.

A mix of regret and a wry, bitter smile stirred in his chest.

He had to admit—he'd been too cocky. He'd spoken too loudly, too soon.

If he could turn back time, he might've apologized for underestimating Hell's Kitchen. Not because he feared reprisal—but because he feared the people of Hell's Kitchen learning what he had once said about them.

Captain Universe Spider-Man moved toward his designated position, offering support to the residents of Hell's Kitchen as he went. He scanned the area, observing the fierce efforts of the local heroes as they fought with everything they had.

One thought echoed through his mind:

Your Hell's Kitchen and my Hell's Kitchen are clearly not the same.

A storm of Deadpools surged past him, each one laughing maniacally, their movements a dance of chaos and carnage. Blood splattered in their wake like crimson confetti, and their deranged cackling lingered like a ghost in the air.

Spider-Man's heart clenched.

The scene was almost too familiar—a living nightmare pulled from recent memories that hadn't yet faded.

When he'd first arrived, he'd only been mildly surprised to see a legion of Deadpools running around Hell's Kitchen. He was familiar with the multiverse, familiar with the void timelines, familiar with the many variants of Deadpool. He knew they were insane, unpredictable, and a force of nature in their own right. He had simply been curious as to why they had chosen to throw in with Hell's Kitchen.

And more importantly—how Alex Ray could stand them.

But the Deadpool swarm had only been the appetizer. The real shock was still to come.

It happened when he stepped into a seemingly ordinary but subtly arcane conference room.

Two figures stood out immediately—two he'd never expected to see together like this: Magneto and Professor X.

They sat side by side, calm and composed, clearly deep in discussion. Their expressions were solemn but peaceful, their eyes filled with mutual understanding.

Even more stunning—they both looked to Alex Ray as their superior. Their posture, their deference, their silent respect—it was unmistakable.

Spider-Man's worldview shattered.

In every timeline and dimension he had ever known, Magneto and Professor X were bitter rivals. Their organizations—the Brotherhood of Mutants and the X-Men—were sworn enemies, ideological opposites who clashed at every opportunity.

Yet here, in this dimension, all of that had been rewritten.

They weren't just cooperating. They were relaxed. Friendly. At ease. As if the decades of bloodshed and philosophical conflict had been swept away like dust.

And all of them, willingly answering to Alex Ray.

But what truly broke Spider-Man's brain was that these mutants weren't just present—they had relocated everything to Hell's Kitchen.

The Xavier Institute, the base of the Brotherhood—it was all here, in one of New York's most crime-ridden districts.

And everyone was acting like that was totally normal.

He knew the U.S. government had always treated mutants with caution and distrust. They'd gone to great lengths to fragment, suppress, and isolate mutantkind. Yet here, all of that political pressure seemed irrelevant.

Alex Ray had somehow broken every rule.

Spider-Man laughed aloud, the sound edged with disbelief and a little self-directed ridicule.

Why had it shocked him so much?

There were timelines where Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr had reconciled. Even married, in some absurdly utopian variants. There were dimensions where mutants ruled peaceful worlds and even the multiverse itself.

But even in those worlds, they had never submitted to another leader. They might have formed alliances—but they never followed someone else.

And certainly not in a place like Hell's Kitchen.

Just as he was beginning to process the idea of mutants building their base here...

Then came the wands.

Yes—wands. Like in Hogwarts.

Mutants—holding magic wands, casting spells, wearing robes. Not using their natural powers, but channeling magic.

"Hey—HEY!" he thought, nearly saying it aloud. "Why are you people casting spells? What happened to mutant powers?!"

Then came the cherry on top:

Dr. Bruce Banner.

The Incredible Hulk himself.

Standing in a robe. Waving a wand. Practicing spellcasting.

Spider-Man nearly choked.

"Don't think I won't beat you down just because you're wearing a damn black robe, Banner!" he yelled. "What are you doing?! When did you switch from Hulk smash to Harry Potter?!"

Even as he tried to make sense of what he was seeing, questions pounded through his brain like a drumbeat.

Wasn't Kamar-Taj supposed to be the only school for sorcerers?

Every magician Spider-Man had ever seen—Doctor Strange, Wong, the Masters of the Mystic Arts—they all used complex hand sigils to manipulate space and conjure magic.

Yet here, just a few feet away, a man in an orange Kamar-Taj robe was happily waving a wand alongside a group of mutants.

And that man was being taught not by the Ancient One. Not by Wong. But by Beast from the X-Men.

Beast.

A biologist. Now teaching magic to a Kamar-Taj sorcerer.

Spider-Man rubbed his temples.

"This world has gone completely upside-down."

"This doesn't make sense. Shouldn't Kamar-Taj be teaching mutants how to use magic? Not the other way around?"

"Am I the one who's outdated?"

He had to get answers. He needed to understand what was happening in this version of Hell's Kitchen.

When he finally dug into the truth, it was staggering.

This was a completely new magic system, independent of Kamar-Taj's doctrines. And it had been created—invented—by none other than Alex Ray.

That discovery shifted something in Spider-Man.

He felt ashamed for ever mocking Alex. For ever doubting him. For thinking he was just another overconfident pretender.

He also felt curious—what kind of man could create a new magical system from scratch?

And lastly, he felt respect.

Because Alex Ray wasn't just powerful.

He made others powerful.

He didn't just lead—he inspired transformation. He took Hell's Kitchen—a neighborhood synonymous with poverty, crime, and despair—and turned it into a stronghold of power unlike anything in the multiverse.

Captain Universe Spider-Man thought he was mentally prepared. That nothing could surprise him anymore.

But the truth?

He doubted he'd seen the weirdest part yet.

After all, if mutants were casting spells, what was next?

Street gangs using magic in turf wars?
