Chapter 6 - Flying to the sect

Breakfast passed like this.

Afterward, one of the cultivators among those that attended yesterday's spirit testing arrived.

He asked the children to gather together.

Once all walked in front of him, he explained "The outer disciples will be assigned in a few days. For now, you can live in your hut and eat three meals a day.

The inner disciples will be taken by the uncle master to the sect in three hours.

Go and prepare your things, meet in front of this building after you have finished."

Cultivators had better sight and could calculate the time just by looking at the sun.

Of course there were also tools for this, one such was in front of the building.

The children that knew how to calculate time would explain it to those that didn't.

Even if this didn't happen, one could just go back quickly, prepare things then walk back and wait.

Yugong and Yiye didn't have anything to prepare. Both of them came with nothing but the clothes they had on, and their weapons which they never left behind.

So, they just went back to sitting in the hall.

Villagers all have a good feeling for time, since they can't rely on any tools.

So, the two sat down doing pretty much nothing but looking at their weapons.

While Yiye contemplated what his brother had told him the day before, Yugong focused on another matter.

'I wonder how the sect will treat those who don't practice the sword.

I shouldn't be the only one... after all, there are many people that create a sect.

Not to mention all those menial work, the real cultivation work also consists of farmer, crafters, alchemists and so on.

Should I also take up a creation art?'

Most of his knowledge came from books he read, so he didn't know the real situation.

But, in his mind, weapon cultivators are mainly fighters and don't produce things.

Wasting resources was not a hunters way, they would use every part of their prey, even guts and such can be fed or made into dung.

Considering this, he also had an idea 'I don't know what sword cultivators do with their skill, but archers are excellent hunters.

There are beasts in the world of cultivation, so there should be crafts that process beast resources.

First if all, there is leather and scales too, these can be made into Armour or other clothes.

Teeth, horns and bones are good refining material for weapons. There should also be other materials that fall into this category.

From my memories, the blood can be used by talisman makers as ink and fur can also be used as talisman paper.

The last that remains are the organs and the flesh. Organs can be processed by alchemy into various pills, while flesh is used best by spiritual cooks.

This results in the jobs of armour crafter, weapon refiner, talisman maker, alchemist and spiritual cook.

Well, separated these things are arts on their own who are no less than any weapon cultivation.

But, since my main focus is on processing beast items, it shouldn't be too difficult to learn a thing or two.

If I do that, I will not have any time to learn spells... well, a weapon master does not need many spells anyways.

Just learning a few auxiliary that are helpful in hunting should be more than enough.'

Yugong set a goal for himself: looking out for these arts in the sect and also checking whether they have auxiliary spells for hunting.

These should definitely include inspecting, tracking and hiding spells.

As a mature mind, Yugong planned his every step forward. He didn't want to be one of those youth who are obsessed with power and forget the key of immortal cultivation.

Power doesn't matter, the path is to reach immortality, not to be the strongest.

If you're strong but not immortal, you will inevitably decline at one point.

Those who are immortals by then will laugh at you for having your priorities set wrong.

The hours passed and soon the cultivator from before came back.

All those that had to leave for the sect were already in the room, so he didn't need to look for them.

"Follow me" he said, leaving the kitchen and going up the path.

Yugong and Yiye followed behind, watching the mountain scenery they passed.

Soon they were near the peak, where their uncle master Liyuan waited for them.

Besides Yugong and Yiye, the other inner disciples were the four young brats and three other children who walked on their own.

Together they were a total of nine disciples, which is less than a fifth of the total amount of disciples recruited this time.

Liyuan waved his hand when he saw them, taking out a flying boat from his sleeves.

It was small at first but grew to the size of a house when it was fully opened.

He waved his hand once more and the nine children were carried into the boat.

Wen it was his turn, he just lightly stepped on the air, walking a few steps before landing in the boat, much more elegant than the children that were basically thrown there.

Yugong and Yiye didn't care and just sat in a corner, caring for their weapons, not saying anything.

When Liyuan saw this, he was disappointed.

These two didn't have an immortal spirit at all, ignoring his demeanour.

Only Yiye knew that Yugong's behaviour was intentional to disgust the immortal master.

Although he didn't know why Yugong was so hard headed, as a good brother, he would follow his advice and stance.

Soon, the boat set off, flying in the air.

Yugong was very curious but he just sat there, not showing his feelings.

He knew it was a bit childish of him, but he was a petty person when it came to his obsessions.

Rather than letting things go, he'd like to fully establish the character of being a person who people shouldn't offend.

In this way, when his reputation of being a hard headed person spreads, those like his uncle master Liyuan who want to make him give up the bow, will know it's useless.

'When a person can't stand their ground in important matters, then they will be pushovers' he remembered all the time.

Although he was a bit introverted, this didn't mean he was weak willed.

Yiye, on the other hand, clearly struggled.

His face was full of curiosity, sometimes he would look around, trying to see over the edge of the boat.

Still, he didn't forget his brother and only looked around a bit, he didn't move away to look at things.

Other children were all looking around, while the four brats acted proud and full of arrogance, as if the flying boat was their work.

The uncle master seemed satisfied with the children's reaction, thinking to himself that this was how an immortal should behave.

If Yugong heard what he said, he would comment that being conceited and proud of other people's work is nothing to brag about.

Being curious might be a good thing for mortals and students, but for immortals, curiosity might be deadlier than a traitor in their home.

Rather than being overly curious, it would be better to have a vigilance to new environments.

Curiosity is for the strong who can afford it, they, youthful and weak, do not have the privilege.

The sects all knew this too – else they would not confide their disciples in the sect, only allowing them to leave for missions.
