AVA'S POV

The door suddenly flew open, slamming against the wall so hard I almost jumped out of my skin. My head snapped toward it—my hands still shaking, my heart barely beating.

And then I saw him.

One of the alphas.

I wasn't sure which one it was. They all looked terrifying in their own way, and I'd never been close enough to tell them apart. But right now, I didn't care. All I knew was that whoever he was… he was not Layla.

And that alone made him a thousand times better.

Layla froze.

The knife in her hand slowly dropped to her side as if someone had unplugged her battery. Her entire face turned pale—like snow. Like every drop of blood just left her body. She stood there, naked, motionless, like a guilty child caught red-handed.

"What the fuck is going on in here?" the alpha barked, his voice deep and filled with rage. His eyes scanned the room, and I could tell he was disgusted—by the scene, by Layla, maybe even by me.
