Chapter 5 - History

In the orphanage's living room, Michelle sat on the floor playing with a blue toy with happy eyes and a smile on their face, orange on their left side, yellow on their right side, and red on their lower half, wearing a bowler hat, while the other orphans played around.

Michelle heard a jingle coming from the TV, which made her look at it. Soon after, Michelle saw a child holding a pink, spider-like toy with green eyes. "Look, it's Mommy Long Legs, the coolest toy around!" the kids on TV sang.

Michelle stared at the TV, amazed. "You can stretch her legs, or hang her upside down!" the kids on TV sang. "Try to twist and bend her in every kind of way."

The TV showed a kid playing with a Mommy Long Legs toy. "Now it's time to have some fun; Mommy Long Legs likes to play!!" the kids on TV sang.

Soon after, the TV showed the Mommy Long Legs toy with the Playtime Co. logo above it. "With Playtime Co.'s new patented Elastic Plastic, you can stretch, pull, and twist Mommy Long Legs in the craziest ways," the man in the commercial said.

Michelle hummed a bit. "She loves watching you play; when you're having fun, she's having fun," the man in the commercial continued.

Soon after, the commercial showed the Mommy Long Legs toy with her legs twisted and her left arm up, and a different one inside a box. "The NEW Mommy Long Legs from Playtime Co.," the man in the commercial said before it changed to a colorful panel with the logo. "What's the time? Playtime!"

Michelle smiled as the TV program returned. "That looked awesome," she said.

Michelle looked at the toy in her hands. "You'll always be my favorite Doey, but..." she continued before glancing at the TV. "You definitely need a new friend."

Michelle smiled. "If I do well on my chores and my schoolwork, maybe the caregivers will reward me," she said before giggling.

...

...

...

Michelle lay on the ground in a dark room; she groaned a bit and opened her eyes. Michelle placed her hands on the ground before sitting up. What... happened to me? she thought before standing up.

"Misha..." a male voice said, which surprised Michelle before she looked around the dark room. "Misha..."

Michelle was confused while looking around. "Who's... calling me?" she asked herself.

A bright light shone behind Michelle, which made her turn to it while covering her face with her hand. "Misha..." the voice said.

Michelle glanced at the light with squinted eyes. "I need to go there..." she said before sprinting toward it.

When Michelle reached the light, the area around her brightened; soon after, she saw a dim red light above her and felt her head lying on something soft. "Where... am I?" she asked in a low voice.

Michelle placed her hand against her face. "I remember running away from the orphanage and..." she said in a low voice.

"Misha..." a male voice said, which made Michelle freeze up and dig her fingernails into her face a bit.

Michelle turned her head to the left and saw Huggy Wuggy looking at her, concerned. Michelle stared at Huggy Wuggy and pulled her right hand away from her face. "Huggy..." she said in a low voice.

Michelle slowly sat up. "That's right, I'm still inside the factory..." she continued before looking down and rubbing her left hand against her cheek. "So everything I saw and did in this place... it was real..."

Huggy Wuggy wrapped his arms around Michelle before pulling her into a hug, which surprised her. "Misha OK..." he said.

Michelle looked at Huggy Wuggy. "Oh, were you worried about me?" she asked.

Huggy Wuggy quickly nodded, which made Michelle smile a bit and pet the right side of his head. "Sorry for scaring you, big guy, but I'm alright now," she said.

Huggy Wuggy looked at Michelle. "Promise...?" he asked.

Michelle smiled and nodded. "I promise," she said.

As Michelle looked around the room, she noticed the case was empty, which shocked her. "That Poppy doll disappeared," she said before looking at Huggy Wuggy. "Did you see where she went?"

Huggy Wuggy shook his head as he let go of Michelle. "Too dark... to see..." he said.

Michelle hummed a bit. "That's a shame..." she said in a low voice.

Michelle stood up and looked at Huggy Wuggy. "I guess our next step is to find that Poppy doll," she said.

Huggy Wuggy nodded as he stood up before the duo approached the opening. As the duo walked in the hallway, Michelle turned her head to Huggy Wuggy and noticed a large red spot in his bandage. "Once we get to a safe area, I can take care of your head wound," she said.

Huggy Wuggy whimpered and carefully placed his left hand over his bandage. "More bad liquid...?" he asked.

Michelle shook her head. "I won't be using the alcohol wipes again; I'm only gonna replace the old gauze wrapping on your head with new wrapping," she said.

Huggy Wuggy sighed in relief and pulled his hand away from his bandage. "Good..." he said in a low voice.

Michelle smiled. "And if you stay still and behave well, I'll reward you with another cookie bag," she said.

Huggy Wuggy smiled and quickly nodded as they entered the room. When Michelle looked at the entrance, she saw a bunch of objects covering the door, which surprised her. "Did that Poppy doll do all of that by herself? Just how strong is she?" she asked.

Huggy Wuggy turned his head to the right and spotted something before placing his hand on Michelle's shoulder, which made her look at him. "Did you find something?" she asked.

Huggy Wuggy pointed to the right. "Door..." he said in a low voice.

Michelle turned her head to the right and saw a door with the dresser pushed to the side. "This might lead us to something..." she said before the duo approached it.

When the duo was close to the door, Michelle placed her hand on the doorknob before twisting it. When Michelle opened the door, the duo saw a long hallway with large murals on the walls and colorful floor tiles.

Huggy Wuggy crouched before the duo entered the hallway. "Let's see what secrets you hold," Michelle said as he stood up properly before they walked forward.

As Michelle looked around, she saw a mural of a cartoonish version of Huggy Wuggy on the left wall before looking at the mural of a red dinosaur toy eating a branch on the right wall.

Michelle hummed a bit and looked forward. "I remember seeing Bron toys in the gift shop back when this was still open, but if I remember correctly, they didn't sell well," she said.

Huggy Wuggy nodded in agreement as the duo was halfway down the hallway. "This way..." a faint female voice said, which surprised them.

Huggy Wuggy looked around the hallway with stern eyes and a slight growl, which made Michelle look at him. Michelle looked at Huggy Wuggy's hand before reaching out and holding it, which made him stop growling and look at her. "It'll be fine, I promise," she said.

Huggy Wuggy stared at Michelle before calming down and nodding, which made her smile a bit before they walked forward. Soon after, the duo stood before a door with a plaque that said 'Elliot Ludwig' above it.

Huggy Wuggy lowered his head and glared at the plaque with a menacing growl, which made Michelle look at him, worried. "Huggy?" she asked.

Michelle turned her head to the plaque before looking at Huggy Wuggy. "Not a fan of Elliot Ludwig, huh?" she asked.

Huggy Wuggy snarled a bit. "Badman..." he said in a low voice.

Michelle hummed before letting go of Huggy Wuggy's hand and petting his arm, which made him look at her. "Well, we don't have to worry about him showing up; he passed away years ago," she said.

Huggy Wuggy turned his head to the plaque with a slight growl before standing properly, and the duo backed away.

Michelle turned her head to the left and noticed two deactivated hand scanners and a large door shutter covering the opening. "It looks like we won't be going to the left for a little while," she said before turning her head to the right. "Let's take the path on the right."

Huggy Wuggy nodded before the duo walked to the right; soon after, they saw a large gap in the floor and an opening with a ladder next to it in the distance. Michelle looked at the gap with a hum. "How can I cross this?" she asked herself.

Huggy Wuggy wrapped his right arm around Michelle, which surprised her before she looked at him. "Huggy carry Misha..." he said in a low voice before lifting her into the air.

Huggy Wuggy placed his foot in the gap before he walked forward. "Keep going..." the faint female voice said.

Michelle looked around the hallway, concerned. "I wonder whose voice it is?" she asked herself.

When Huggy Wuggy was on the other side of the gap, he placed Michelle on the ground and let go of her before she turned to him. "Thanks for the help, big guy," she said, which made him nod.

As Huggy Wuggy pulled himself out of the gap, Michelle looked at the ground and saw a Bron toy with dried blood surrounding it and on it.

Michelle stared at the dried blood with a slight frown before looking down. "You know, if I hadn't seen your head wound back at the catwalk... I never would have believed that the toys in this place could bleed," she said.

When Huggy Wuggy stood up properly and turned his head to Michelle, she smiled at him. "But because of it... it made my choice in saving you a lot easier..." she continued.

Huggy Wuggy remained silent and looked down; soon after, he raised his hand and petted Michelle's head before they walked forward.

After Huggy Wuggy pulled the ladder away from the opening, the duo entered an area with a barricaded opening and a Huggy Wuggy cutout wearing a GrabPack. Huggy Wuggy stared at the cutout before reaching for it.

When Huggy Wuggy's hand pressed the cutout's button, it let out a jolly laugh, which startled him a bit. Michelle quietly giggled as Huggy Wuggy examined the cutout before looking around.

When Michelle turned to the back right, she spotted barrels covering the door. "I think we can pull these barrels away from the door," she said before approaching them. "Give me a hand, Huggy."

Huggy Wuggy nodded as he followed Michelle; she aimed the arm cannons at a barrel before pulling both triggers, launching both hands and grabbing a barrel.

As Michelle pulled the barrel away from the door with the GrabPack's help, Huggy Wuggy wrapped his arms around a different barrel before lifting it and moving it to the other side.

After the duo cleared the barrels, Michelle approached the door before placing her hand on the doorknob and twisting it.

After Michelle opened the door, the duo looked inside the room and spotted a key with a poppy flower hanging on the wall. "I bet that key will let us get into El—" she cut herself off with a slight flinch before clearing her throat and looking at Huggy Wuggy. "I mean... his room."

Huggy Wuggy nodded as Michelle entered the room before approaching the key. When Michelle was near the key, she let go of the right arm cannon's handle before grabbing it.

After Michelle left the room, she turned her head to Huggy Wuggy. "Let's head back to his office," she said, which made him nod before they went through the large opening.

After Huggy Wuggy carried Michelle over the gap again, they stood before Elliot's office door. Michelle put the key in the lock and twisted it, which unlocked the door before she placed her hand on the doorknob and twisted it.

After Michelle opened the door, the duo entered a wooden office with a large wooden desk at the center, a large decorative rug, a small trash bin next to it, a couple of shelves and smaller desks, two sofa chairs, an end table with a broken lamp, and children's drawings on the walls.

While Huggy Wuggy walked forward, Michelle turned her head to the right and spotted a TV in the upper right corner and a shelf with a brown VHS player on it. "I never thought I would get to enter the big man's office," she said.

Michelle turned her head to Huggy Wuggy and noticed he was staring at a drawing of himself holding hands with a Kissy Missy drawing before approaching him. When Michelle stood near Huggy Wuggy, she looked at the drawing. "You miss her, don't you?" she asked.

Huggy Wuggy looked down and whimpered, which made Michelle pat his leg. "There, there... I'm sure we'll find her along with our other friends," she said.

Huggy Wuggy looked at Michelle, confused. "Our friends...?" he asked.

Michelle nodded. "Well, yeah, I consider you a friend, too," she said.

Huggy Wuggy stared at Michelle before raising his hand and petting her head. "Friend..." he said in a low voice.

Michelle smiled at Huggy Wuggy before looking at his bandage. "Hey... since we're in a safe place, let's replace your old wrapping with some new gauze," she said.

Huggy Wuggy nodded and stopped petting Michelle before kneeling and grabbing one of her backpack's straps. After Huggy Wuggy took Michelle's backpack off and placed it on the ground, she knelt in front of it and grabbed the zipper tab before unzipping it.

Michelle looked inside her backpack and dug her right hand inside before pulling out the first-aid kit and placing it on the ground.

After Michelle let go of the left arm cannon, she opened the first-aid kit before turning to Huggy Wuggy and carefully grabbing the tail of the bandage.

Michelle grabbed the rolled gauze out of the first-aid kit and undid the tail part of it before wrapping it around Huggy Wuggy's head gash.

Michelle tore the end part off the rolled gauze and gently patted it against itself. "There we go..." she said before putting it back in the first-aid kit and closing it.

After Michelle put the first-aid kit back in her backpack, she pulled a bag of mini cookies out of it before holding it out to Huggy Wuggy. "And here's your reward for being good," she continued.

Huggy Wuggy smiled as he grabbed the mini cookie bag with both hands before bringing it close to him and tearing the top part with his teeth.

As Huggy Wuggy poured some of the cookies into his mouth and ate them, Michelle smiled at him before grabbing her backpack's zipper tab and zipping it.

Michelle grabbed the dirty gauze wrapping and stood up before approaching the trash bin. As Michelle tossed the bandage away, she spotted a brown VHS tape and a note on the desk.

After Huggy Wuggy finished eating, he tossed the empty bag on the ground and grabbed one of Michelle's backpack straps before putting it on.

As Huggy Wuggy stood up, Michelle picked up the tape and the note. "Let's see what kind of information you have," she said before looking at the note in her right hand.

Huggy Wuggy approached Michelle and looked at the note as she read it. "It seems like whatever they were testing, they used a rat first," she continued before placing it back on the desk. "They tried reviving it, but it didn't work."

Michelle placed her hand on her chin. "And the thing that supposedly killed it was a mixture of some preservative gel and a poppy flower," she said. "Just what were these bastards testing?"

Michelle looked at the tape in her left hand. "Let's see what you've got," she continued.

As the duo approached the player, Michelle inserted the tape into the player; they looked at the screen as it booted up.

Soon after, the duo saw the factory in black and white on the screen. "Playtime Co. is the product of a great man by the name of Elliot Ludwig," a male narrator on the TV said before revealing a picture of Elliot in black and white, but with a black bar covering his face. "Divorced but a family man at heart."

Huggy Wuggy glared at the video with a snarl until Michelle petted his leg, which made him look at her. "It's alright, buddy; it's only a biography video," she said.

Huggy Wuggy calmed down a bit but glared at the TV. "His sights were always set on bringing amazing toys to amazing children around the globe," the narrator said as it revealed a Poppy Playtime doll at different angles.

The screen changed to scientists working in different lab rooms. "Ludwig spent countless hours in the factory working overtime relentlessly in an attempt to continuously innovate and surprise," the narrator continued.

Soon after, the screen showed a woman grieving at a gravestone. "In the 1960s, an unfortunate family death had pushed Ludwig down to his lowest," the narrator said. "But with so much ambition, he rose back up and continued to fulfill his vision for the Playtime Co. Toy Factory."

Michelle crossed her arms. "Ludwig could never be content leaving a project unfinished, but just how did one man come to create such an outstanding empire?" the narrator asked. "How did he manage to stay determined even after suffering such a tragic loss?"

Soon after, the screen showed a text reading 'The Beginning'. "It all began in the fateful year of 19—" the duo heard the video cut off with static before it went blank.

Michelle stared at the TV. "Wow... I never knew he lost that much..." she said in a low voice before looking down and gripping her arms a bit. "But... if that man's ambition caused all of this..."

Huggy Wuggy wrapped his arms around the TV, screeching, before tearing it off the mount and slamming it against the desk, destroying it in the process.

Huggy Wuggy angrily looked at the broken desk and broken TV, panting. "Let's just... leave this place..." Michelle said in a low voice.

Huggy Wuggy let out a loud huff and nodded as Michelle grabbed the arm cannons' handles. "The question is... how do we get out of here?" she asked herself before looking around.

Soon after, Michelle spotted a large vent with a vent grille covering it before aiming the right arm cannon at it and pulling the trigger. The red hand shot forward and grabbed the vent grille before Michelle pulled the trigger again, tearing it off the vent.

After the red hand retracted back to Michelle, she approached the vent and examined it with a hum. "It looks like it'll be a tight squeeze..." she said in a low voice.

Michelle turned her head to Huggy Wuggy. "C'mon, Huggy," she continued, which made him nod and approach her as she got on the desk before they entered the vent.
