The mechanical octopus moving through the city attracted many people's attention, and the octopus man in front of it reminded everyone of recent news reports.
"Isn't that guy the octopus monster from the news?"
Citizens talked excitedly, then saw a figure in red and blue tights swinging through the city on spider webs.
"Spider-Man! That's Spider-Man! Is he here to chase that octopus monster?"
Someone shouted in surprise. Spider-Man's reputation was high among them—many people liked the web-slinger or admired his abilities. The way he could fly freely through the city with his incredible strength made them envious. Not to mention that Spider-Man never used his power to bully anyone. As he said himself, he was New York's friendly neighborhood hero.
Peter was deeply worried the octopus monster would hurt innocent people. While facing Dr. Otto's mechanical octopus, Kraken might not be invincible, but his combat ability was much stronger than Dr. Otto's.
As a scientist, Dr. Otto's thinking was still academic rather than tactical. Even though the mechanical octopus had many tentacles, that didn't mean he knew how to use them effectively. Kraken might use the fight to destroy surrounding buildings and hurt people.
"Faster, faster!"
Peter kept chanting as he continuously shot spider webs from his hands.
"Haha! That guy Kraken is asking for death!"
Seeing the breaking news on television, Slade put down his cigar.
"Pass the word—everyone take your weapons and help that spider!"
This was an idea the gangsters had never considered. They were vicious criminals who should be Spider-Man's enemies. Now being told to help the web-slinger against Kraken gave them a strange feeling.
"Never thought I'd actually help Spider-Man one day. Think he'll let us off easy in the future for helping him?"
A gangster with an automatic rifle laughed. He didn't believe Spider-Man would spare them because of this incident, but he wasn't worried either. So far, Spider-Man had at most given them a beating before webbing them up for the police. Such a gentleman in New York—how could anyone be afraid?
"Remember, we're not enemies with Spider-Man this time. Let him fight Kraken. You just need to keep harassing the octopus freak."
Under Slade's orders, his men took their weapons, got into cars, and drove toward Kraken's location.
In other parts of New York, each gang also sent their people. Their goal was the same—eliminate Kraken.
"After we kill that guy, New York doesn't need a madman to rule!"
With roaring engines, all the gangsters took action, which made the New York Police Department extremely alert. The criminals' actions were highly unusual. What were they planning with such a large-scale operation—a rebellion?
"Move out! Get every officer to stop those bastards!"
The NYPD chief frowned as he shouted through the station. He didn't believe these gangsters had no ulterior motives. To ensure New York's safety, he had to push back against them.
Police cars spread throughout New York, chasing the gangster vehicles. The gang members didn't care at all. While they wanted to use their guns, they remembered their bosses' words and kept their heads.
This wasn't an ordinary operation. If it were just gang warfare, the police wouldn't respond so quickly. Now their goal was helping Spider-Man, and if they dared shoot at police, after this operation ended, the best case scenario would be having their limbs cut off and being thrown into the sea to feed fish.
"First time being chased by cops that I actually feel like a good guy!"
The gangster in the car looked at the police cars behind them and smiled.
The other criminals had the same expression. They were obviously not good people, but facing the police, they didn't feel threatened. The feeling of protecting New York was amazing, making all the gangsters laugh out loud.
Not far from them, Marcus and Harry were also pursuing the action.
The two were mostly just watching the excitement—after all, nothing was more entertaining than being at the scene of a major battle.
Their car drove through the streets as surrounding skyscrapers became industrial structures. They'd arrived at a cargo port.
"This place is perfect for dealing with you!"
Kraken turned and looked at the mechanical octopus behind him. Two mechanical tentacles on his back grabbed a shipping container and hurled it toward the mechanical octopus.
The container was firmly caught by several mechanical tentacles, not affecting Dr. Otto's octopus at all.
"Damn thief! How dare you covet my artificial sun!"
Dr. Otto controlled tentacles to place the container on the ground while other mechanical arms reached for Kraken.
Several mechanical tentacles collided and grappled with each other. Facing this situation, Kraken's face showed a maniacal smile.
"Hahahaha! Is this all you're capable of?"
While speaking, energy gathered around his body, and the mechanical tentacles received the energy's blessing, undergoing subtle changes.
The tentacles, originally purely mechanical, now began showing twisted energy lines. The claws' power improved dramatically as they gripped the mechanical octopus's tentacles and began twisting continuously. With a sudden pull, the mechanical octopus's tentacles were torn off completely.
"See that, octopus? This is our power—unrivaled strength!"
Kraken shouted frantically as all four tentacles received powerful energy enhancement, exerting tremendous force beyond Dr. Otto's capabilities.
Although the new mechanical tentacles Dr. Otto used were more precise than Kraken's stolen ones, they couldn't completely integrate with their user. They couldn't connect as intimately as the tentacles fused to Kraken's back.
Kraken's mechanical tentacles emitted a faint blue glow, and every movement completely destroyed the ground. Surrounding containers were thrown toward the mechanical octopus as he continued advancing.
"There can only be one octopus here—and that's me, Kraken!"
With a roar, Kraken appeared on the mechanical octopus's head, right in front of Dr. Otto's control cabin.
